Rahul Nath (cultofpersonality) | 869 comments Hi Everyone.

I have noticed there are quite a few fans of Russian literature in this group. Personally, I consider Dostoyevsky as one of my favorite authors and after finishing and completely loving "Crime and Punishment", have decided to move on to his final work- "The Brothers Karamazov".

As is the case with all non-English literature, there is always the fear of the beauty of Dostoyevsky's genius getting lost in translation. So, please help me in deciding which translation to go for while reading this.

Also, if the said edition is available on flipkart, homeshop18 or any other site we Indians use to buy books. I read the David Mcduff edition of Crime and Punishment which was great, and am finding his translation of The Brothers Karamazov on flipkart too, but I am seeing everywhere that the Pevear/Volkhonsky translation is the best, so I want your opinions.

Also, the P/V edition is not easily found online in India, so please help out if you know.

How are other editions like the Constance Garnett one?

Looking forward to hearing from you all. Thanks :)

dely | 5485 comments I am sorry but I can't help you. I read the books in Italian so I don't know who the best English translator is. Parikhit and Tarun (the other two Dostoevskij readers of the group) it's a long time they don't are active in the group. We have also a topic about Dostoevskij: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/8...

You can try to ask in this group of Russian literature: http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/4...

Any other person who has read the book and is from India, please help :P

Manu McDuff translation is very good and Penguin edition is also of fine quality. You can surely go for that.
