message 2: by Marren (last edited Nov 19, 2012 01:19PM) (new)

Marren | 764 comments Little Mr Darcys and Lizzies, hehe. I would like to hear how Lydia and Wickham worked out (really interested to know). Did Mary get married or did her piano and books content her? or so much more but I'll let the others say their bit as well.

message 3: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn (caroheartsbooks) | 272 comments i think mary stayed single didnt she? and i have enough info on lydia staying a jerk to hate her lol

message 4: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Louise Smith (sarahlouisesmith) I'd like to find out -
What happened to:
Kitty Bennett
Mary Bennett
Georgiana Darcy
Caroline Bingley
Lydia & Wickham
Col. Brandon

How did Elizabeth find becoming mistress of such a big house? It must have been a culture shock.

And, did Jane and Bingley always exceed their income? :)

I guess it'll be left to our imaginations.

I would like to see...
Col. Fitzwilliam
Anne de Bourg
Mary and Kitty Bennet
Georgiana Darcy
Maria Lucas actually...

And the the ordinary ones the Darcy's and Bingley's and Wickham's and Collins's :)

message 6: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca May | 561 comments I would like to see what happened to all of those people, of course - and Sarah, did you mean Col. Fitzwilliam? :) Of course I'd want to find out what happens to Col. Brandon, but he is in a different book. :) Who would you guys choose to write a sequel seeing as Jane Austen is not with us? It would have to be someone who could write in a very similar style, so the differences between the two authors were not overly distinguishable, or it would seem a bit annoying.

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

What about characters from different Jane Austen books meeting each other? I think Lizzie and Marianne would get along. :} And Darcy and Col. Brandon could become great friends... meet each other at a hunting party, or something. XP

message 8: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca May | 561 comments OMG I would totally love a sequel that combined P&P and S&S, Cari! Cool idea! Although, I must say I never liked the idea of hunting... maybe something to do with riding? Both Col. Brandon and Darcy are good riders, aren't they? :)

message 9: by Aerykah (new)

Aerykah | 48 comments Oooh!! I like that idea! :)
My bro even said he'd be interested to see how that would turn out. :P

message 10: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca May | 561 comments Wait... your brother is interested in Jane Austen? *does not compute* :D

Haha!!
I just have this really funny imagine in the head - all the heroes riding together, and maybe all the bad guys riding in another pack - hahaha random image!

I think it would be good to Mix them together!
I don't know who. Maybe more than one person. Someone good!

message 12: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Louise Smith (sarahlouisesmith) Oops, yes Fitzwilliam!

message 13: by Marren (new)

Marren | 764 comments Your brother is cool Becca! I could never interest my brothers or male friends in Austen. One male friend told me once "chick flick/stuff, nah."

message 14: by Aerykah (new)

Aerykah | 48 comments Becca wrote: "Wait... your brother is interested in Jane Austen? *does not compute* :D"

Though none of them have read any of the books... My dad & my 7 bros have watched most of the movies I've watched. They love P&P 1995 and most of them can even quote it! :)
Yeah, I know... the guys in my family totally rock! :P

message 15: by Sophie, Your Lovely Moderator (new)

Sophie | 2624 comments Mod
Wow!!
My dad will not have any of it. Mum is ok and sister - meh.

message 16: by Aerykah (new)

Aerykah | 48 comments I think P&P 1995 is one (or six) of my dad's fav movies. :P

Now if I can just get them to READ P&P! Don't really see that ever happening, though...

Rebecca May | 561 comments Marren wrote: "Your brother is cool Becca! I could never interest my brothers or male friends in Austen. One male friend told me once "chick flick/stuff, nah.""

Haha, no, it is Aerykah's brother that is interested in JA - right, sorry guys, I'm going to go on a bit of a rant here.
- My dad couldn't care less.
- My brother has watched P&P 05 and S&S 95 and called both of them "the most boring movies he had ever seen."
- My mum has read some Austen when she was younger, but has never re-read them. She watched the P&P 05 with me and she is in the "Firth" group - so yeah, very annoyed about that. But what is most annoying about my mum is that she watched S&S 95 with me, and she said she couldn't get into it because all she could think upon hearing Rickman's voice was "Snape!" So of course I was thoroughly pissed off at her after that, because S&S 95 is one of my favorite movies and Alan Rickman makes a brilliant Col. Brandon.

message 18: by Marren (new)

Marren | 764 comments lol, I could not help laugh at your mom's comment about Alan, hehe, erhem. Sorry about the mix up in names. That happens when I am trying to multitask a gazillion things.

message 19: by Aerykah (new)

Aerykah | 48 comments *gasp!* Your mom doesn't like S&S 95?!?! I loved Alan Rickman as Col. Brandon!!

My whole family (guys included) are in the Firth and P&P 95 group. ;)

message 20: by Rebecca (last edited Nov 21, 2012 11:51AM) (new)

Rebecca May | 561 comments Hehe, Marren - I didn't know whether to laugh at her or hit her on general principles. :D I went for the being incredulously annoyed and then attempting not to care about it - I still love Alan as Col. Brandon. :) And don't worry about the mix up, it all good.

Aerykah, *gasp* is exactly what I did! I was sooooo peeved off at her, because Alan Rickman is obviously perfectly capable of romantic roles, and a wonderful actor in any role, especially as Col. Brandon! <3 I loved him as Col. Brandon too. :)

You are lucky to have a family that are into P&P - as I said, annoyingly I have no guys into any JA, and my mum and me are firmly separated into the "Firth" and "Macfadyen" camps, with guns trained. :D

Sorry, another rant coming up. Honestly, I despair at my fathers choice in film - we have a family tradition (or, eh hem, my dad says that's how it is going to be) that on the weekend he chooses the movies we are going to watch every night. We hardly ever watch romances, it took him two months to watch Young Victoria, and it took him two months after we got Pride and Prejudice to say I could watch it by myself, because he said he couldn't bring himself to watch it. And yet he actually enjoys movies like the one a couple of weeks ago - where a guy pretend to stick a girls hand in an in-sink-orator (or however you spell it) I was honestly almost sick - even when it turned out it was a piece of raw meat he'd sneaked in instead. And of course there was the usual incredibly bloody stuff happening for that kind of movie. I mean, honestly, he prefers that and zombies and aliens to Jane Austen? What is the world coming to these days?

*Phew* rant over, my apologies. This thread is great for ranting at the moment.

Haha!! Loving this conversation.

My family is not anti austen and mum and siter don't mind it. Dad not interested. Watched some of them though :)
I think Darcy camps go...
Me - undecided
Sister and mum - Firth
Dad - who knows ;)

message 22: by Marren (new)

Marren | 764 comments Becca, tell your mom I do not understand Alan's "romantic bone" either, lol. *Wait till Becca sees this, especially after what she did to Wickham*

message 23: by Rebecca (last edited Nov 21, 2012 04:36PM) (new)

Rebecca May | 561 comments :D I don't know whether to laugh or figuratively lightly punch you on the arm, Marren. But don't worry, you are safe from any Wickham-like measures. :D I should probably just turn my nose up and pretend I didn't see that comment. Haven't you ever seen Truly Madly Deeply (I haven't, but I know he has a romantic role) or Love Actually? I'm sure he's done other romantic roles, I just can't think of any right now. :)

Haha, Soph, luckier than I am.

message 24: by Marren (last edited Nov 21, 2012 04:38PM) (new)

Marren | 764 comments I just don't see him in that light, maybe if I watch more of his movies. Same thing for Hugh Grant. At the beginning of all his movies, he is soooo annnoying, somewhere in the middle I warm up to him. This happens in mostly all movies I have seen with him in a major role.

message 25: by Sophie, Your Lovely Moderator (new)

Sophie | 2624 comments Mod
LOL Marren!!
Haha I'm with you about Hugh Grant!!!

message 26: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca May | 561 comments *hides eyes at implied criticizm of Alan Rickman* :D

Lol, I actually like Hugh Grant.

Sophie | 2624 comments Mod
he annoys me...
at my school ther is a huge rivalry - you are either Firth or Grant!
im Firth, surprisinly ;)

message 28: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca May | 561 comments Haha, I know he annoys you.

Why the rivalry between Firth and Grant? I honestly don't know which side I'd choose - probably Firth, but I really liked Grant in Love Actually!

You Soph? Firth? Nah... :D

message 29: by Marren (new)

Marren | 764 comments Soph, if I was at your school, I would say neither, hehe. I have that weird thing about me, I usually like most actors as characters. For example Mr. Thornton (North and South). I went crazy for him, like woah. Then I goggled him found out his name was Richard Armitage and I sought some things of his watch. I message a close friend of mine, excitingly talking about him. Soon after I realize it was not Richard I was interested in, I was interested in Mr. Thornton.

Tehe Becca ;) I couldn't say why really. Just in my year there has been this debate for ages and everyone seems one way or the other.

And Marren, you actually have a point and it rings true with me. Mostly I like the characters that the actors play. Sometimes when you read about the actor themselves you realise it's the character. This is defo the case with me a lot! There are a few exceptions though (Alan Rickman and Colin Firth being examples - I like most of the characters I have seen them portray and they seem like nice people in themselves. Hugh grant as well, but the other way ;) )

Lol, that debate is weird, no offence. :D

Hehe, I have the same thing - I generally like the characters rather than the actors, but I have the same exceptions as you (Alan Rickman ofc :D)- along with quite a few of the Harry Potter actors, many of them seem really nice.

Aerykah | 48 comments Soph wrote: "he annoys me..."

Hugh Grant annoys me too. Didn't really care for him in S&S...

message 33: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca May | 561 comments Why does Hugh Grant annoy so many people? I've only seen him in S&S and Love Actually, but I thought he was great in both!

message 34: by Sophie, Your Lovely Moderator (new)

Sophie | 2624 comments Mod
YES Aery!! Someone who agrees!

Aerykah | 48 comments Becca wrote: "Why does Hugh Grant annoy so many people? I've only seen him in S&S and Love Actually, but I thought he was great in both!"

I'm not entirely sure. To me, he's kinda like Tom Hanks -- I look at him, hear him talk... and I'm instantly annoyed! :P I want to watch a movie, then I hear that he is in it... and I don't really want to watch it quite so bad anymore.

message 36: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca May | 561 comments :( Poor Hugh Grant.

message 37: by Marren (new)

Marren | 764 comments hehe, don't feel sorry for him, he has loads of fans out there....somewhere.

message 38: by Marren (new)

Marren | 764 comments You know one actor I like in romantic comedies or the such...James MacAvoy...Soph, it seem we will have to open a thread about actor/actresses who do besides Austen stuff ;)

message 39: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca May | 561 comments :P I'm kind of a fan of Hugh Grant! I don't know if I can classify myself as a fan, but I've liked him in the two movies I've seen him in!

I love James McAvoy! I've seen him in Narnia (love Mr Tumnus) and in X-Men, and I REALLY want to see Atonement, because that has Keira Knightley in it too. But yeah, I like him!

message 40: by Marren (new)

Marren | 764 comments I can't remember him in Narnia. I did not realize pay attention to the series. I think I saw one and half of another. I remember him in X-Men. I saw it weeks ago, maybe months (time is crazy right now for me). Ohh I remember him in in Atonement, it is an ok movie. He is also in a movie where the girl has a pig nose, think her name is Penelope.

message 41: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca May | 561 comments James McAvoy is in the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, as Mr Tumnus, and he is adorable in that role. What did you think of him in X-Men?

message 42: by Marren (last edited Nov 25, 2012 11:20AM) (new)

Marren | 764 comments He is great :P What you think I would say, hehe. Ok let be serious, he acted his role well. Trying to strike a balance between mutant and human.I do no remember him in Narnia, I probably did not watch that part.

message 43: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca May | 561 comments Hmmmmmm you should watch the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe then, he's really good. :)

message 44: by Aerykah (new)

Aerykah | 48 comments Speaking of James McAvoy... Have any of y'all watched "Becoming Jane"? I've seen it at my library, but I can't decide if it would be worth watching.

message 45: by Sophie, Your Lovely Moderator (new)

Sophie | 2624 comments Mod
Please go ahead as start a thread! It's a great idea!

I love James McAvoy!! In Penelope he is so sweet!!

I need to see Becoming Jane!!

message 46: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca May | 561 comments What's Becoming Jane about? I've never seen it.

Jane's life :)

message 48: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca May | 561 comments Oooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh :D

Got it.

message 49: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Louise Smith (sarahlouisesmith) First of all, my brother text me the other day and said "I've found an Austen book you haven't read yet, I think I'd love it" and then there was a pic of the Zombies book! Outrageous! ;)

Secondly: My husband has seen all of the JA adaptations and he likes them (I even quiz him now and again like: "Name the five Bennett sisters"... he always forgets Mary for some reason). He said he'll read P&P someday but I'm yet to see it happen.

Lastly, Becoming Jane is very good but made me cry!

message 50: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca May | 561 comments Oh dear, I'm sure your brother is in for a good telling-off sometime soon.

Awww, that's so cool you have a husband who likes JA adaptions! Lucky! I'm sure he'll read P&P someday. :)

Hmmm, so should I put Becoming Jane on my list of movies to watch? Was it sad cry or happy cry? Am I the only one who happy-cries? Am I asking too many questions? :D :D :D
