A map of operation Barbarossa.

Aw, I'm sorry. Adding images to GR is still new to me. I can see it, so I thought everyone could. :| I'll try and fix it; thanks.

Wow..."

Excellent! I'm glad it worked. It's still hard to even imagine... the largest military operation in the history of the world.

This baby weighs just over 2kg - or, in real money, just a soupçon under 4½ lbs. Also have a digi version to highlight and copy

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 7 comments I had a lecture on Stalin once, where the historian lecturing wrote down all the names of Stalin's colleagues in the Bolshevik party on the chalkboard (I'm showing my age, alas), and then proceeded to cross out all their names as Stalin eliminated them.

There were very few uncrossed at the end. Molotov, Malenkov, Beria, and maybe one or two others.

Bevan Lewis | 9 comments A review of Robert Service's biography of Stalin (which I would like to read at some point) quotes the story of a note found in Stalin's desk after his death. Bukharin sent it to Stalin just before being executed: "Koba, why is my death necessary to you?". Bullock mentions childhood acquaintances were also eliminated as Stalin seemed concerned to rewrite his past.

I think there was a guy like that at my high school too."
