Sean O'Hara (seanohara) | 2365 comments They're really a trope of Raymond Chandler and his immitators; Hammett, Spillane and the other classic hardboiled novelists went much lighter on them, and didn't come up with such ridiculous ones. Actual noir writers like Cain and Highsmith never touched them.

library_jim | 212 comments There were some great ones. And some great lines too. "I retrieved my car from the handicapped parking space (yes, angles cheat sometimes, but come on, we're doing God's work!)"

and "I must have been an English teacher. Either that or just an annoying dickhead."

There were some good ones in there. Wasn't keeping track either but I wish I was. The one about the English teacher was definitely one of my favorites.

Kristina | 588 comments I remember once one of the demon prosecutors asked Bobby what he was doing there and he said something like "I heard you were going to be singing Ava Maria" (or something like that. That one maybe me chuckle. I second the handicap parking one also-good stuff :D

Jonathon Dez-La-Lour (jd2607) | 173 comments I can understand why some people wouldn't get on with this particular style but I'm loving it. I really get on with this particular narrative voice and the dry, sarcastic style of humour really tickles my funny bone.
