LOL I was thinking of that movie when I said "groove"

I am in love with the vampires from the Black Dagger Brotherhood. All of them. Hugh and Edward might be real, but they aint Brothers.

Hey UM,

LOVE the pictures of your roses. I can actually smell them! Honest :]

I want to come and just sit in your garden and veg.

Oh, did I tell you that I ordered the whole series of Study novels? They just came yesterday. Now I just need to finish Harry Potter (on book 5).

Having Maggie withdrawls, hint, hint, hint :]
Wishing you a most wonderful weekend, filled with many magical moments.
Hugs, hugs, hugs

Oh, I am soooooooooo excited for you! I really, really love Yelena and Valek and the Commander, Ari and Jenco. There are so many memorable characters. Now I am onto Storm Glass, book 1 in the Glass Series. It's a new series, but has some of the same characters in it. I think you will love the Study Series too :)

I finally finished Lover Avenged... it was actually 520+ pages and I didn't skip a word. *sigh*

So now I can focus again on Maggie and Simon... things are not going well for them at the moment. Simon is being a typical "Alpha Male" and deciding what is best for Maggie...what she needs to know and what she doesn't. And given what she has already been through in her life she's none too happy about it.

As to the withdrawls, soon my friend, soon.

*hugs*

Gwendolyn (drgwen) I truly enjoyed the Study Series and I finished Storm Glass last night.

Maria is a great lady! My daughters met her at her book signing last weekend. Melissa (my oldest) won her UK set of the Study Series and she signed each one with something different inside for her. It was very cool.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish Today's rose isn't a rose... LOL It's an iris that my grandmother had at her home and my mother gave me a couple years ago. This is the first year it has bloomed here.

Photobucket

I've never seen white iris' and this one looks like tissue paper.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish And for those die-hard rose fans, here is one called FireMeidland. It gets only about a foot tall, but a few feet wide. It is not technically a carpet rose, but it acts as one. The flowers are very small but plentiful. It blooms a few times through the season.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish Today's rose, Electron, isn't an exceptional beauty, though the pink is striking. It blooms like a traditional rose, but what I find interesting is how the center part, the stamen area, grows in a swirl. My daughter got in as close as she could to try and show it.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish Maggie is being a whiner, and Simon is trying to be understanding. I want to smack her around and tell her to get over it. Grrrrrr.

message 563: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (wendyswore) A whiner, eh? At my house they have to thing their complaints or else I can't "hear" them. Drives them crazy instead of me *cackling laughter* er- right where was I?

I don't suppose that would work for your character though. Good luck with her!

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish Sometimes, places like Home Depot and Lowes will have discounted roses because the tags are missing or the plants are almost dead. Like I said though, roses are nearly impossible to kill where I live, so I take advantage of the lower priced, unidentified roses. Today's rose is one of those. We know it is lavender, and we know it's a hedge rose. After some research, we think it's called Simplicity by Jackson and Perkins. It is very fragrant, has the right petal count and the bush is quickly growing past 4' and it was planted at the end of the season a year ago.

Wendy (wendyswore) My comment should have said "SING" their complaints. Nice rose UM.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish Wendy wrote: "My comment should have said "SING" their complaints. Nice rose UM."

Oh, ok... I sure I was missing something there. LOL

I am working through the issues...trying to get her to cut to the chase, so to speak. Making progress, thankfully.

I think I need to just go back to the beginning, and work it through, not allowing the characters to drag me off in a hundred different directions.

message 567: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (wendyswore) I think I told you already, but when I have to go back to the beginning, I print it off and put it in a 3-ring binder. I just can't "see" it otherwise.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish Wendy wrote: "I think I told you already, but when I have to go back to the beginning, I print it off and put it in a 3-ring binder. I just can't "see" it otherwise."

I have chapters 1 and 2 finished. Chapter 3 is well underway, and it too needs to be finished if for no other reason than I can see where things are going. I know I'm not making a lot of sense, I can 'feel' what I am thinking, I just can't voice it. I'm not allowing myself to do any 'fun' reading until I get another 2 pages in. That in itself will motivate me to write.

I've sent Dee 4 files of different things I am working on. I hope to hear back from her soon with her ideas and input. She's very helpful and keeps me on track. LOL

I may have something to send you later, depending on how far I get with it. It won't be much, but it's a crucial part of the story.

Ewww.... my dad ate very southern things. He loved pickled pigs feet and buttermilk!

He also loved to give us kids a glass or can of beer and watch us stumble about. LOL

message 573: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (wendyswore) "He loved pickled pigs feet and buttermilk..."

I didn't know that was a real thing! my standard response each day when my kids give dinner the evil eye on the stove is:

Them:"What's for dinner?"
Me: "Pickled pigs feet."
Them: "Argh! Mom!"

Them: "Whats for breakfast?"
Me: "Pickled pigs feet."
And so it goes...

It is effective at stopping all the "but I wanted to have_____ for dinner." Because all we ever eat is pickled pigs feet- until it gets on the plates and then they can see what it is themselves.

Yes, it is a real thing...really stinky too. And ugly in the glass jars. Ewwwww. LOL

But hey, they put hair on your chest so it's worth it! LOL

Working somemore on my 2 pages and will send it to you soon. .doc or .docx?

message 575: by Wendy (new)

I am almost through with another small part. I'll be sending it out to both you and Wendy later this evening.

Sleep well, when you finally do 'hit the hay'

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish Okie Dokie, Dee and Wendy. You both have mail.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish It won't take up much time. It's only 1 & 1/2 pages.

Lemme know what you think.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish Today's rose is GingerSnap. It's a very deep orange color, deeper than the picture depicts.

The cameras are just not capturing the true colors of some of these roses, sorry ladies.

Yes, they are all in my yards, front or back. All 96 bushes. LOL

With all that surrounding beauty for inspiration, I'd be sitting outside with the laptop or a notebook.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish Today we have a minature rose bush called Rainbow's End. The flowers go from bud to bloom to dead in a matter of days, so they are only pretty for a day or so. The reason I personally like this rose is because of how showy the bush is when in full bloom. As the flower ages, the petals start to curl up on the ends and begin to look pointed.

Photobucket

This is about as attractive as a Rainbow's End flower gets. Again, it's the landscaping effect that has me enjoying this bush.

Wendy (wendyswore) Moi, I like the rainbow bush. Very cute and lively for such a little guy. It's just about the right size too- no wicked thorns to reach out and take your leg off, maybe just a toe here and there.

Come to think of it, I'm not sure it has thorns at all. Hmm... I have it in a full sized bush as well. I'll have to ask my daughter to stick her hand in it and let me know.

What!? I can't do it! I have to keep my fingers healthy and unscathed so I can keep writing. Sheesh!

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish Today we have Brilliant Pink Iceburg: The original Iceburg is a very pretty white, massive growing bush. This one, and another called Burgundy Iceburg are gorgeous and are bred from the original white.

This will be the last rose for a week or so. The rest of the bushes are just now starting to bud, so it will be at least a few days before they open and look nice.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish Today I bring you JustJoey. It's a lovely peach colored rose with an amazing scent. Very sweet and fruity and citrusy.

Photobucket

It's times like these when I wish I had a really expensive camera so you could see the subtle peachy color coming from the center, fading into a creamier peachy white.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish Anyone interested in knowing how new roses are created, this is a great slide show for just that.

It takes you through the entire process!

Hey UM,

OK, I just planted my Sterling Silver rose, and the first thing that hubby asked" "How long before you kill that one?"

Which was more of a statement than a question, sigh.

I sprayed it with "earth friendly" bug-away juice and fed it stem-food.

What usually happens is that I get a ton of white mucky stuff on the leaves. Or black spots. Or bugs. How often should I water it?

Geez, I love roses, but it seems that my green thumbs are anything but green :[

Help :]

message 595: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (wendyswore) HI UM!! Hope you are having a terrific day! hugs!

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish Most rose fungus problems are from watering from above, getting the leaves and petals wet and they don't have a chance to dry out. My daugther has roses planted in the shade and her sprinklers also hit them so she is always fighting fungus. Roses should always be watered from below. For keeping aphids off the roses, I use ladybugs. Store them in the fridge, they go right to sleep. Put them at the base of the roses bushes just at dusk. Dusk is best because they are less likely to fly away and they will wake in the morning, climb the bush and eat the aphids.

We have one bush, the George Burns, that was decimated by aphids last year. A few weeks ago we discovered hundreds or thousands of aphids and put a couple lady bugs on to see what they would do, and they immediately started devouring the aphids. This year George's blooms are beautiful!

Here are a couple links that are useful.
