Shadow Jubilee (uhqs) | 35 comments This book was originally published with a different cover. Some time ago, when the publishing rights reverted to the author and he updated it with a new cover, the cover I had was replaced with this new one.

How does the alternate book cover policy work in this case? Do I upload the original cover and make an alternate cover edition for this new one? Or do I just make an alternate cover edition for my old one?

Edit: I double checked my copy and I apparently have the Kindle edition which has my original cover. However, in case that I do come across something like this, I would be interested in the answer to my above question. Thank you.

I reverted the incorrectly-done changes. Please feel free to upload an alt-cover edition for the new cover.

Shadow Jubilee (uhqs) | 35 comments Thanks for the reply, rivka. If I am understanding this correctly, if this should occur, the original cover should remain with the new cover added as an alternate cover edition, correct?

Because there is a Kindle book (different book, same author) which originally had a different cover. However, since my own Kindle edition updated with the new cover, I wasn't sure whether to replace the new cover on GR with the old one and create a new alternate cover or whether to leave things alone...

My original case was incorrectly applied since I apparently had the Kindle version of the book, which did retain its old cover, but I am pretty sure that the e-book versions had the same cover that had been replaced with the new one on GR so I think the result is the same. Unfortunately, I do not have the new cover version. I could probably see if one of my buddies does though.

Edit: Wow, rambling. Do I even make sense? Also, can Librarians see what changes have been made to a single book?

Tntexas | 404 comments My understanding of the way it's supposed to be handled is that the first edition entered into the database retains the identification numbers (be they ISBNs, ISBN13s or ASINs) and other covers with those numbers are entered as alternate covers.

Correct.

Shadow Jubilee (uhqs) | 35 comments Ok. Thank you!

Shadow Jubilee (uhqs) | 35 comments Ok. This is my first time doing an alternate cover edition. I found the information/new cover from the author's website. Is this okay?

lafon حمزة نوفل (lafon) | 3544 comments Looks good, but we usually add a librarian's note, so at a glance the combine page makes sense, and it doesn't accidentally get deleted.

Banjomike | 5166 comments We could really do with some automation in this alternate cover edition creation. Nearly all of the work is standardized and even the librarian's note is pretty much set in stone.

Shadow Jubilee (uhqs) | 35 comments Ah, I thought that adding a Librarian's note in the description was enough. I missed it in the example given in the Help Manual. Thanks, lafon!

Can librarians see the history of an individual book's changes?

I found it.

Shadow Jubilee (uhqs) | 35 comments If it says that Goodreads made a specific change, what does it mean? Is it permissible to revert that change as well?

When in doubt, ask. But give details.
