The Deep Forest is what surrounds the Base and other towns. It is nothing but thick foliage and maybe the occational hunting cabin. It is everywhere that isnt in a town or settlement.

Slowly walking through the forest, silently as the night, Kairi stalks her prey. A deer is what she's watching, thinking about how to get the kill. Long, smooth, quiet steps muffle all the sound of the leaves as she sneaks up behind the deer. She raises her sword and severs the head from the body, a clean kill. "finally some food, now I just need a fire." she said with pride.
Ryan soundlessly walked through the forest, four out of five of his wolves walking with him. Quick Silver, who was out on a hunt nearby, was the wolf not around. He had gray fur on his back and neck while his flanks, underbelly, and sides of his face were pure white. Rust, a dark gray long-haired/furred wolf with dark ginger ears and legs that were the color of rust - Giving him the name Rust - walked behind Ryan, bringing up the rear and keeping a look-out for zombies. Sieva was a pure white she-wolf with bright amber eyes, and she walked beside Ryan, sniffing for predators. Karpath was the wolf with the gray back and snout and creamy white-yellow underbelly. He repeatedly glanced between the forest and Ryan, for God knows why. And fonally, Fell, a pitch black wolf, whom was currently softly growling into the dark trees. Her gaze swept up to Ryan, and he instantly took out his black spear, creeping forward silently. Chances are, a zombie was nearby. But no, in front of him, Ryan glanced down a slope to find a girl. No, her guts and intestines weren't hanging out. Her steps weren't unsure. She was a human. It wasn't every day Ryan found a human like him anymore. In fact, he once believed he was the only human left, after quickly dismissing it. "Selfish and terrible," He could hear Verigan's voice in his mind. Ryan shook back into reality as Fell nudged him, her deep amber eyes hazing into Ryan's brown ones. He shook his head and slid down the slope after putting his spear away. His charming smile came to his lips naturally. This was a girl, after all. Old habits die hard, He thought. "Nice kill you got. Maybe I can help build a fire?" He said suddenly, trying to make it look like he meant no threat. Although, it probably didn't help that he had four wolves trailing behind him, warily glancing at the human standing before them. But Ryan ignored them, still smiling at the girl.
Kairi, having heard the growls and Ryan sliding down the hill already had her hand on the blade's handle. standing over the deer,in a quiet, yet commanding voice she said "Who are you? What's with all the wolves, they won't take this from me." her breathing was intense as she began to pull out her sword.
Ryan, with a smile still, said, "I'm Ryan. Don't worry, their nice once they realize you're not undead." He shot a glance at Fell, who was looking up at Ryan. "They won't take the deer, trust me," His gaze returned to Kairi.
Kairi slides the blade back in but doesn't take her hand off of it. Although he seems like a nice guy to her, she still can't trust him yet, "Put down your weapons, and tell your wolves to get back up the hill." Kairi wasn't sure how to handle this, however she just wanted to talk to Ryan with out fear of being attacked.
Ryan raised his hands as if in surrender, before tossing his weapons up the hill, but keeping only his knife in his belt. He shot a glance at Fell, and, followed by the other three wolves, backed up the slope. "Would you mind if I asked who are you?" He said afterwards.
She finally takes her hand off of the handle and walks over to him. "My name is Kairi, not that any one cares." The last half of what she said was in a whisper, almost to herself. She walked around Ryan looking at him, studying him. She put her hands on his waist to feel for a weapon, but she misses the knife. "I don't see any weapons, so you shouldn't have to deal with mine either." Kairi walks over to the deer and lies her katana next to the carcass.
Ryan nodded, understanding. He could feel his wolves' eyes glued on him, ready to defend him if necessary. But Ryan knew that wasn't going to happen, this human obviously still had a mind. "So... You roam alone, I take it?"
"Right now, I was with a group once, but they were all idiots. Got themselves killed, quickly." Kairi sits on a rock next to the deer and motions for Ryan to have seat, but has her eyes staring into the forest the entire time. "A bunch of girls like that aren't the best for zombies, still worried about make up. Went to the bathroom after a fight to get their hair right, never came back."
Ryan followed her and sat down. He shuddered at the thought of going into a room for just a moment, and never return. "That's... Interesting." And immediately, he thought back to that one day, August 2nd, 2020. "I used to have my little brother and a man named Verigan, who protected us after our mother died," He said without even thinking. "But they came. There were so many, and I couldn't save Verigan and Tony."
"I'm so sorry. I never had any siblings, and my father died before the zombies appeared. i don't know what happened to my mother, she was in Japan but, no one can know now." Kairi, still staring off into the woods with glazed over eyes, no change in tone in her voice. "Let's change the subject,this is depressing..."
Ryan nodded, quickly blinking away tears. "Yeah," He replied, trying to think up a subject.
"You can tell your wolves to come down if you want. for some reason, i feel safer with animals around." Kairi was lying, she didn't mean animals but she would never say her true thoughts about that matter out loud. She slid a bit closer to him while his head was turned, face a bit red from blush.
Ryan whistled to the wolves, and the four of them came down. "I have another one, but he's hunting some deer. Should be coming back sometime soon..." He trailed off, then realized it was probably polite to introduce his pack. "Anyway, the pitch black she-wolf is Fell, Beside her, the old gray and white one is Karpath, the small pure white one is Sieva, and Rust is the one with the dark ginger ears back there. Quick Silver's the one hunting."
the expression on Kairi's face was blank. "I'll be honest, there is no way i'll be able to remember their names. Not unless we stay together for like a month." She gets up and slowly goes over to Rust and reaches out her hand to pet Rust. "They won't attack me or any thing right?"

Ryan smiled. "Of course not. Even he won't, and he's the most brutal."((Okay, bye! ;) ))
((baaack~)) Kairi moves close putting her hand on top of Rust's head and starts petting it slowly. "He's very soft. How did you befriend 5 wolves?"
Ryan shrugged, watching her pet the wolf. "I was kind of taught, but it's mainly because I have a... Connection, if you will," He replied with a smile. "Sieva wasn't all that hard. She was only a pup when I found her."
"Awe, sounds cute." Suddenly Kairi stands up just noticing some thing. "We need to get a fire going before night-fall, and before the meat goes bad." she automatically gets out her Katana and begins cutting limbs off a tree for wood.
"Yeah, I'll help," Ryan said, standing up and retrieving his black katana. Suddenly, he heard a wolf howl, and Karpath immediately howled back. Within a few moments, Quick Silver padded down the slope, carrying a fox ((I don't know if those would be in the area, but whatever :P)). Ryan walked over and patted the wolf's head. "Good boy," He said with a smile.
"Good a fox, we can use the fur for warmth too." After Kairi and Ryan had cut off enough wood, they began to make a pile. Around the pile they put some rock to keep the fire centralized. "So... Do you know how to start a fire? I can but it'll take a while."
Ryan shrigged. "No, sorry. My lighter ran out of gas last week," He replied.
"Damn, ok. Hold this piece of wood down for me." Kairi start putting dried leaves around a small indent on the wood Ryan is holding down. She then gets a stick and begins twisting it rapidly in the center of the indent. Softly she blows onto the wood hoping for fire. Eventually she gets her wish and a small fire begins to burn. ((sorry if i was kinda god moding there~)
((It's fine ^^))Ryan did as he was told and watched her twist the twig and blow on the indent. Soon enough, a fire burst from the indent and he quickly stepped back as to not be burned. "Awesome job!" He exclaimed, impressed.
"Thanks! It started up much quicker than usual. probably cause i had help." She smiled honestly and looked at Ryan. She slowly moved closer to Ryan until they were almost touching. Her face again got a little bit red from blush.
Ryan smiled at her. He noticed the blush on her cheeks, but didn't mention it.
"So lets get the meat ready then? I'm not too good at cooking meat. The last time it was under cooked and i got sick. luckily it wasn't too bad. The time before i burnt it really badly." Kairi still stayed close to Ryan not moving much.
Ryan, nodded, having been taught how to cook from his father, who was a chef until the car accident. He quickly got to work, using techniques he'd so often used in order to feed himself and his wolves. He started with the deer, figuring it was the largest. He took out his knife and cut off the skin, then the fat. "A significant ammount of fat on wild deer can give it a bad taste," His remembered his father telling him, when Ryan was only four. Ryan had an interest in cooking and in animals. At this point, Ryan's father would add seasoning and such, but considering that was back when zombies were myth, Ryan dismissed it. Instead, he took a thin branch lying dead on the ground, and stuck the branch into the venison, in such a way so it points out from behind. He placed it over the fire, turning it very slowly, allowing the heat from the fire to evenly cook the venison.
((Lol, I just got these steps from the internet, but i probably missed some things :3))
((what evah gurl~ Better than i can do!)) "Holy crap you're good. Rotisserie deer, never thought i'd ever eat that." Kairi really was astonished at how easily Ryan had done this. She began thinking about staying with him as a pair, with the wolves it was good for protection. at least better than being alone. "How long until we can eat this do you think? Oh, by the way, i have an extra sleeping bag in my back-pack if you need one. I've been using it for an extra layer." Kairi giggled slightly but she didn't quite know why.
(('Kay))Ryan chuckled a little. Without taking his eyes off the venison, replied, "Possibly 30-45 minutes. After a few years, you'll just know when to stop." He watched the fire trying to reach the deer meat, failing by only a hair. "Thanks. I've mainly only been sleeping in the trees or the dirt, depending on the area."
((sorry,baaack~~~)) She goes over to her back pack and takes out two sleeping bags, both are bright pink with a puffy, frilly pink pillow attached to them. Each have a different picture on them but other than a different anime character, they're the same. "Sorry, i like pink." Kairi blushes a bit more now. "I hope you don't mind, they're very soft and warm."
((Sorry, my iPod died >.<))Ryan laughed softly. "It's alright. I was never a picky person, anyway," He said with a smile. After awhile of cooking the venison, he lifted it away from the fire and laid it on his lap, checking to make sure it was cooked through all the way.
((it's kk~ :) )) "So, is it done?" Kairi looked at the meat obviously hungry, ready to pounce as soon as he said it was edible. "I nkow it's not much but i have some paper plates in my bag as well." She retrieves them from her bag and gives one to Ryan.
Ryan nodded. "It's ready," He smiled. With the blade of his katana - Not his knife - he cut the venison in half and placed one of the halves onto Kairi's plate. "The wolves'll have the fox meat, once I'm done cooking it for them," He said.
"Ok, make sure to save the hide, i can make it into a scarf or some thing for you. I already have one." She didn't waste any time after she got the meat. Immediately she picked it up with her fingers and began eating. it wasn't much later that her food was gone.
Ryan nodded, making a note of that. "Of course. But first, I'll have to clean my knife. I don't think you'd want to work with deer grease on the pelt," He said, and with that, he went up the slope towards a river he encountered earlier, not far away, carrying his plate of venison. When he got there, he used the river water to carry the mess from the knife away, and he returned to where Kairi and the wolves were, his venison almost finished. As soon as he got back, he took the fox corpse and began to skin the ginger pelt off.
"Thanks, i'm useless until the skin comes off. i can't even believe i made it this far. Luckily there haven't been any zombies yet, haven't gone past one here yet. What about you?" After she finished the meat Kairi began petting Rust again, trying to gain the wolf's trust.
As he continued skinning the fox, he finished the deer meat. "I've encountered the occasional one, but mainly because I travel closer to the towns," He replied. Ryan took the fox pelt and handed it over to Kairi.
"Thanks. So then what brings you way out here?" She takes the pelt and puts wooden steaks through the corners of it, then sticks the other end of the wood in the ground around the fire, letting the pelt dry out and become soft and flexible.
"I feel it's a safer place to be, considering most of the undead tend to go near towns. Plus, the wolves are better in the woods, the adapt to it most than anywhere else I've taken them to," He replied. On some days, if he had a fox to share with his wolves, as well as possibly an elk or bear, he would've let the fox meat settle in salt water from a beach somewhere overnight, but since there isn't anything else for the wolves to eat, he decided against it. Instead, he just cooked it, after checking it for rabies or diseases, which there weren't. When he was finished, he cut the meat up into five pieces and tossed them towards the wolves, who instantly began eating their share.
"Seems about right, they did evolve to live in the woods any way." Kairi, after judging the pelt over the fire, finally took it off. She folded the edged in to make soft corners where no under-skin showed. Then she folded the whole thing in half and took out a needle and thread and began sewing it. after about 10 minuets she was finished. "Here, i would have put cotton in it for extra insulation but i don't have any left, sorry." She tossed it Ryan.
Ryan caught it, smiling. "Thanks. And it's no problem, better than no scarf at all," He replied, wrapping it around his neck.
"How do you like it?" She asked nervously. She wanted to make him happy, not just for cooking the meet but for other reasons she didn't quite understand.
Ryan looked at her. "I love it. It's great," He said warmly.
Kairi's face lit up with excitement knowing he liked it. "Thank you!" her voice was as sweet and innocent as a child getting their first crush. from that moment on Kairi knew she never wanted to wander alone again.
Ryan smile brightenned. He liked her. "No problem. Thank you for making it for me," He said.
"Oh, it was no problem. I've never really met some one like you before, even when civilization still existed." Kairi liked him back, but she couldn't bring herself to say it yet. and she wasn't even sure if it was just that she hadn't seen another human, let alone a guy, since the zombies appeared.
