December Read?

I apologize for not having enough time during the past few months. I really want to discuss the December read.

I was thinking A Christmas Carol? It's short, which is good since we have two big celebrations in the month of December, and it's good since it has to do with Christmas.

It's such a long time since I've read Charles Dickens wonderful ghost story A Christmas Carol, I'm sure I still have a copy somewhere.

Every year I read The Christmas Mystery by Jostein Gaarder, its something of a tradition with me.
The idea of it is to read one chapter per day, like an Advent Calendar, during December....it's nice.

I always try to read A Christmas Carol on Christmas day. I've missed a few years; but I've been doing it since I was in high school.

Its a short book so we can also include another book if you guys would like that.

I read it last week.....I'm not sure how many times I've read it over the years, but I loved it just as much as ever this time around.
Wonderful writing, wonderful characters, ghosts....and all set in cold, snowy atmospheric London....what more could you ask for.

I agree, I just finished re-reading it for my third time so far. It just gets better and better. It's a very well written book. You're right, what else can anyone ask for!

Dickens writes with a charm matched by few authors. His digression at the very start concerning whether or not a coffin nail should be regarded as the deadest bit of ironmongery would sound tendentious in the hands of most authors; but Dickens pulls it off with sparkling humor. I'm always struck when I read A Christmas Carol that Dicken's writing is so far superior to every movie and television version of his work (and I think I've seen just about every one). I hope we will make this our read for December 2013!
