Hi there. I've recently been taking part in this group and seemed to have been kicked off. Not sure why.
I will be leaving this group. After participating in the (view spoiler) book discussion I was told spoilers in that thread would be limited to chapters 1 through 10. Christine then proceeded to spoil that the book had a cliff hanger. When I stated how displeased I was that it had been revealed there was a cliff hanger in a thread that was suppose to be limited to discussing the first ten chapters. That same person responded claiming to apologize but stating the cliff hanger is the same as the "Fever" series. This exactly states what plot this book copies and what happens to both the main characters. To me that is beyond rude.
I was participating in a thread for the first 10 chapters of a certain book. The second post to the thread was making sure it would not contain spoilers past chapter ten. Then someone stated how it ends. When I complained. That person replied saying 'sorry' then proceeded to state exactly what happens to the heroine and hero of the story.Maybe I am being sensitive? But I just don't get why someone would deliberately ruin a book for another person.
Well, I do think that shouldn't have happened. I can't stand when someone surprises me with spoilers. I've had books ruined for me as well. If someone wants to spoil, at least perhaps put a note saying *spoiler*. Sorry that happened to you.
I'm torn between defending myself and just letting this drop. What I wrote in response to another reader, prior to Katie's complaint about me spoiling that there was a cliff-hanger, was this:
"It's a horrible cliff-hanger. But it's not one that made me mad (can anyone say Fever?) but rather one that just makes me very eager to move on and find out more. I want it now!"
I never for a second drew a correlation between Fever and the actual book being read. It's just that when I think of awful cliffhangers that really irritated me, I immediately think of the Fever series. So, I was actually trying to say that I didn't think this cliff-hanger was anything like the Fever series. I never meant for a second to imply any similarity between the two plots, because I didn't think there was one. And I had already posted this comment before Katie's complaints about the spoiler.
I honestly did not mean to ruin anyone's enjoyment of the book, but I also don't appreciate being attacked and being told I "became so irate that another person was participating" in the discussion.
Christine wrote: "I hope you get your copy soon! It's a horrible cliff-hanger. But it's not one that made me mad (can anyone say Fever?) but rather one that just makes me very eager to move on and find out more. ..."That one word spoiler states what happens to both main characters.

"I..."
I was involved recently in a thread that I wish in hind sight I would have just let drop. I kept trying to apologize and get my view across and it just made things worse. Good luck and my vote is for drop it.
So sorry to be offended by being spoiled (deep sarcasm). I guess I should thank Tom for making sure I realize this is not the type of readers I want to be around.(view spoiler)
...should i list more similarities? Or question how anyone could state the series but not notice those similarities and others in both stories.
Well hey, now we are all spoiled right? (you didn't say spoiler, and now I know key parts about that book I haven't started yet), but I bet you didn't mean to write a spoiler here, so I guess you guys both did it and should move on. Hopefully you don't leave the group over a spoiler though, because there are little spoilers all over this board.
Point taken: It was okay to spoil me. However it is not okay for me to be upset by it.Yet, I am guilty of spoiling all, because I listed details in a message that does not even contain the title of the books it refers to?!
Guess I am always wrong and nobody has any empathy for the fact that once I read the first paragraph of the climax scene I knew exactly what was going to happen in that scene and how the book was going to end.
I think I'll go have a good cry now, because apparently I'm not meant to interact with other readers.
I think everyone needs to take a step back and let this drop. In the future, everyone should label and tag their spoilers.
I personally don't think that saying "this book ends on a cliffhanger" is a spoiler. Saying "this is what happens to the characters at the end of the book" IS a spoiler and should be labeled as such so you don't ruin someone else's read.
So if you're going to talk about plot points, label that as a spoiler. Just saying that a book is a cliffhanger is not a spoiler.

I believe when someone harms another person they should apologize for their actions. Not make justifications for what happened. To me posting what happens in chapter 18 is inappropriate in a thread labeled "Book title - chapters 1-10" when the first 3 posts in that thread state spoilers will be limited to the first ten chapters.Apparently I am wrong and do not deserve an apology or even the right to be upset.
I only have control of my actions. I have been hurt emotionally by someone giving a spoiler in the inappropriate thread and when I expressed I was upset I was accused of "attacking." I only have control of my own actions. Therefore i choose to leave this group that refuses to respect that some readers do not wish to be spoiled.
Thank you Abby for being that one shinning light who was kind enough to express sympathy.
Just to reiterate, people who are still in the group, saying that a book is a cliffhanger is NOT a spoiler. That kind of information is easily found pretty much anywhere. Just don't post major plot points without clearly labeling your post as a spoiler.
In this situation, I think there was a big overreaction, so I'm not scolding anyone specifically by saying that. It's just a reminder to everyone for how to deal with real spoilers.

You guys are making me really nervous!!!!! I'm sure I've broken rules without realizing it...sorry if I spoiled your read, I'll be more careful. That said, I don't want to be so conscious about it that I loose my passion rather I loved it or hated it or not post at all...
Please don't be nervous about it! Honestly, I don't even think this is an issue. People have been telling each other about cliffhangers in this group since it started and this is literally the first problem I've had with someone freaking out about it. I talked to fellow readers when trying to figure out how to handle this, and we all agree that it's not a spoiler. So please don't let this stifle your desire to discuss the books! That's what the group is for. :) Just use the spoiler tag if you're unsure if what you're posting is a spoiler, and all will be well.
Thanks again Pamela. Just so that I'm clear and avoiding such mishaps in the future, IF I'm in the general public thread, avoid spoilers or post spoiler tag. IF I'm in discussion within my book, where I post STATUS-QUTOES-COMMENTS,etc. I can opening discuss the book with my friends or whoever interested, right? bc Lord knows I spoke my passion openly. Same thing with reviews, there's no real guidelines either right? I've noticed some wrote the summaries, some gave stars, and most gave opinions. I'm sure there's no right or wrong reviews, it's their prerogatives, right? I mean this is where you find friends with similar tastes, get their takes on books read and exchange recommendations. BTW, I love GR and meet friends thru books.
Interesting - I wouldn't have considered Sookie Stackhouse as urban fantasy!
New to the group but have been reading paranormal for years. I do a lot of audiobooks now. Does that still count as read on discussions?
Read.Great to see an active group for Urban Fantasy! As a writer in this area myself, it's going to be interesting reading other people's perspectives on it.
Hi! I couldn't remember the name and author of a book and wanted to read it again I was wondering where I can ask if someone has read it
I tried to post in the self-promotion folder but for some reason it won’t post. Says there’s an error and I have no idea what it is because I’ve posted the same content elsewhere.
