Wendy's Wanderings | 182 comments How many books do you typically read at one time? Some people read one at a time while others read several at once. Tell us about your habits.

Arminius | 50 comments Typically one. I am afraid to mix things up.

J.R. | 83 comments I usually have two or three going, a mix of fiction and non-fiction.

Chris (rastyk) | 6 comments I generally have two books that I read at one time, one audiobook and one physical book.

Dave Fritz | 3 comments I normally have 5 or 6 books running at the same time, I like to have a couple to chose from because of varying interests from day to day. I never lose my place or forget what was happening when I come back to a book either, I get asked that quite a bit.

Wendy's Wanderings | 182 comments I do too Dave but sometimes I really have to watch myself or I can do 6 or 8 and then take a year to finish some. So I try to keep it down to about 5.

Chris (rastyk) | 6 comments After reading this, I think I've switched a bit. One audiobook, one for the e-reader for when I need to be portable, one physical book, but a fourth if the physical book is big and overwhelming. I seem to find myself stuck on big books -- does anyone else experience that?

All they all the same kind of book? Or do they vary widely?

I have never really got into the audio books. But I was thinking about doing it more for days I'm trapped in bed not feeling well. And yes there were a few times in the past I struggled with longer books. But truth be told I was just not that interested in them.

Chris (rastyk) | 6 comments audio books are great for car rides. It's amazing how far you can get in two weeks with about 15-20 minutes each way to work and a couple of side trips.

It gives me something to listen to, and keeps me on track with completing a book.

So then when your home do you continue with the audio book? or read the hard copy of it?

message 12: by Chris (new)

Chris (rastyk) | 6 comments I haven't been able to do that. When I get home, I'd rather read a hard copy or ebook, and I found it cumbersome to keep trying to find my place on the other format.

Jonathan Brown | 5 comments I usually have around 4-6 going as active reads at any given time - sometimes more, on occasion less. Right now I recently finished a bunch, so I'm building back up to five active today, I think. All non-fiction; I try to get in a fiction book or two every year or so, I suppose.

Debby | 9 comments I am a 6-8 at a time person.
Usually 3 novels, one history, one theology or spirituality, biography or memoir and then what ever mish mash I find. I find I get bored if I read just one book at a time, to me it is like only talking to one person in a day!

I get asked that quite often too. And I always reply, I talk to several people in a day and I don't get confused on who told me what

Wendy's Wanderings | 182 comments I read more non-fiction than fiction as well JB. Out of the 13 books I have listed as currently reading only one is fiction. But now that one I may not end up picking up again till next Christmas. Because it is a book of classics short stories about Murder at Christmas from Authors like Agatha Christie, , Arthur Conan Doyle and Charles Dickens and many others. But I do plan on reading to Kill a Mockingbird this year.

Wendy's Wanderings | 182 comments That's it Debby. You hit the nail on the head! It's like only talking to one person a day. You found the exact words to describe why I like to have several books going at one time. Debby wrote: "I am a 6-8 at a time person.

Candy Sparks (ladynoveil) | 6 comments I have such a great job that is easy so I am able to listen to an audio book at work. Then I will listen to the same book or a different one when I am at the gym or running. I also read a book from my nook on lunchs at work or where ever I get stuck at outside of home. So normally I am reading about 3 to 4 books at a time.

Billy Binkley | 5 comments One at a time or I get confused ... Well more confused I should say... Just ask my college profs.

Wendy's Wanderings | 182 comments I have been trying to listen to YOU Being Beautiful by Michael F. Roizen . I'm finding I rather poke myself in the eyes with forks. Guess I didn't pick a good book for audio. Even though I'm not liking it. I am determined to finish it. I guess better luck with my next audiobook.

I tried audio books for God is not Great, The host, and The Invisible man and let me tell you it was so hard to listen too. Most audiobooks are great and others make you get so bored with it. The one you are trying to audiobook seems like one of those boring audiobooks. The Gone Girl Audiobook is AMAZING!

Wendy's Wanderings | 182 comments Okay I just put The Gone Girl on my to read list. I like a good mystery.
