Didn't she admitt to it, that she needs to improve her writing? I think this was in the Afterward of Breaking Dawn. ( Maybe )

Lucy Siskova Stephenie isn´t bad writer, how could she? NO, she´s good because that is the reason why is twilight saga like movie, I think. When I read her books I have some strange feelings but these feelings are positive.
She is a good writer only if you like romance a horor. :)

Teresa B. Let me say this.. I wasn't really into this book but.. I know women in there 30 and 40's who have read it with there teen daughters and talked of the book and enjoyed it and bonded over it.. So would you want to be a so call " good writer" are have that effect on women.. I would rather move people then be a so called good writer

A story about Alice would have been quite hard to write about, but if done well, it would be incredible.
Rosalie's story would have been kinda bloody but the tortured angle where the readers might pity her...

no she is actually one of the best writers; while reading her book i feel like everything is happening in front of me.

Bill, are you actually saying that parents who take the time to connect with their children through literature (even if it's literature you didn't enjoy) are bad parents?

The funny part is that I think that might actually be how you think and the reason wouldn't be that you object to the "messages" in the story, but that you object to the portrayal of vampires, as if it's a main parental responsibility to make sure children have the "correct" version of a fictional creature.

Bill Golden Mickey wrote: "Bill, are you actually saying that parents who take the time to connect with their children through literature (even if it's literature you didn't enjoy) are bad parents? "

There are literally hundreds of books out there that are much, much, much better and more positive than that imminent-brain-damage-on-paper. If, as a parent, you can't find something on that list to connect with your kids over, you suck as a parent. I'll gladly call child protective services to help you make better reading choices.

When they are old enough, I'll forbid my daughters from reading this trash. Of course, by that time, this shit will fade from the collective consciousness and I likely won't even need to worry about it.

If they ask, I'll point straight to you, Mickey, and explain how Twilight has damaged your reading comprehension ability. I'll lay out in detail how important it is that people rely on their ability to grasp the written word, and show them how you fail at that most fundamental of skills... all because Meyers sucks at life. You're welcome.

message 1209: by Siobhan (new) - rated it 2 stars

Siobhan Bill, if you forbid your daughters to read a book, they'll think there's more to it than there actually is and will read it behind your back. Also, you'll find yourself agreeing to anything by the time they get to that age because it means there's something to bond over, even if it makes you want to rip your teeth out. Like, currently my son is watching Bubble Guppies which makes me want to punch a wall (seriously, could they not hire someone to sing in tune? Just one person!) but it makes him happy and ultimately has stopped him asking me for his Christmas presents already so he can have it. You'll do the same for your daughters (you can argue now, but give it time), maybe then you'll apologise to Mickey and Teresa?

And I don't even like Meyer. I just know if I had a daughter instead of a son, I'd bluff that it was so unpopular I'd never heard of it. Or worse, I would talk that shit up. Nothing makes your kids hate something more than you loving it, right? (Oh my God, my son's going to grow up hating Harry Potter ...)

Bill Golden Pfft... you're all just jealous because my kids actually listen to me on things such as movies and books, because I actually listen to what they like and don't like, and tailor my recommendations accordingly.

Besides... again, by the time they get old enough to even think about reading that obnoxious trash, something else will have supplanted it (and I'll have read it for them, so they can have my take on whether they'll like it or not, because I do that for my kids).

I am saddened by your comment, because it isn't accurate. I'm a fan of the saga twillight, but among my favorite books are those that were written by the greatest literature writers of the world, like Hemingway, Sheakspeare, Alexandre Dumas, Cervantes, Jane Austen, Jorge Amado, Luis Sepúlveda, Robert Graves, JRR Tolkien, Eça de Queirós, Fernando Pessoa, Joseph Saramago, Charles Dickens, Mark Twain, among others of equal genius.

Danielle Overly Backlogged There's a difference between being a good storyteller and a good writer. Some well known authors have said that Taylor Swift's songwriting encapsulates the Y/A experience but I would venture to guess, if it came down to penning a 75,000 word novel, she'd probably struggle... and so might we reading it. Good storytelling does not mean good writing. However, given her success, her storytelling appeals to many and seems to have breathed new life into a failing industry. What's more, it's opened the gates to some really talented writers who, perhaps just ten years ago, might not have gotten published. Am I a fan of Meyer's work? No. I found her characters underdeveloped, the stacked similes distracting, the purple prose over the top and many of the Twilight story arcs underwhelming. That being said, kudos to her (and Rowling) for making tons of cash and getting kids (and their moms) excited about books again.

I can't believe that you would say that! Just because in your opinion there are better books out there, doesn't mean that people who connect with their kids through this book are bad parents. In fact, my mother and I obsess over these books together and it has made us really close in our interests, so just because you don't like the book, doesn't mean the parents suck if they connect with it.

Bill Golden Gerd wrote: "Good to know there are still parents out there that really hate their children."

How is reading what my kids read before they read it "hating my kids?" Actually caring enough about my kids to save them from making bad decisions (like reading Meyers shit) is as far from hate as I can imagine.

Understand, I don't deny my kids much. They play the games they want, they listen to the (shitty) music they want (Lady Gaga needs to be launched from the same cliff as Meyers, if I were allowed to wish death upon anyone... she's a cancer to music), and read almost any book they want. I've read to them since they were babies, I read with them... hell, my older daughter is still in elementary school, and we got her a Kindle for Christmas.

I encourage my kids to read by example, not by handing them randomly popular shit like Twilight. Any parent who simply throws that shit at their kids to shut them up needs to have their kids taken from them. Any parent who reads that shit with their kids needs to be locked up for child abuse, point-fucking-blank.

message 1230: by Siobhan (new) - rated it 2 stars

Siobhan I think it comes down to context, and the type of writer you are. So Stephenie sucks at prose, and she goes overboard with description and can't differentiate between proper grammar and colloquial licence in speech, has not researched teenage idioms enough to make Bella's language seem authentic ... I will give her this: she has incredible ideas (peace loving aliens invading our bodies? Vegetarian vampires? Love her or hate her, you wish you had the base concepts) and she can convey emotions on a page. That is not easy to do.

I'm not a fan of hers, but I do believe in credit where credit's due.

Mickey Bill wrote: "Nothing you have to say is relevant or trustworthy (being a Twitard and all), so just save your breath."

This is a note to Jordan: I'd like to explain how a person like Bill functions from an adult perspective.

Bill is a bully who has convinced himself that his opinions are somehow of a higher level than others. This explains how much of what is says is framed more as pronouncements or revelations rather than opinions. When he comes across others who do not share his opinions (and this could be about something as subjective as book choice or restaurant preferences), the only thing he knows how to do is insult and try to control others. Feel sorry for the people that have to deal with such an immature and socially stunted person outside of an internet forum.

AHAHAHAHAHA!!! That's the funniest fucking thing I've seen, coming from the A1 bully on this thread.

Your arguing style:

Mickey wrote: "You said A, therefore I will say B, which is absolutely unrelated to A, and pretend that it's profound, because it makes me feel superior to you."

...and you're the ONLY ONE who doesn't see it. You pretend to be the Voice Of Reason, but really you're just some sad little Twitard troll, but with better access to a thesaurus than most.

I've argued fact his entire time: Edward is not a vampire (which I've proved), the writing "style" is trash (which others have proved), and that Rowling, not Meyers, sparked interest in YA fiction (which actual history has proved). You've just shrugged and pretended that facts aren't facts, like some retarded leftover from Minitrue.

Bully... LOL. I'll screenshot that and save it so I can laugh.

As for Jordan... her arguing style:

Jordan wrote: "'Cause Stephenie Meyers said so!!!"

Blind fangirlism aside: there's a great Ron White bit about how he was kicked off of debate team because he responded to a point with, "Oh yeah? Well, FUUUUCK YOU!!!"... and he thought he'd won.

Every post of your's is exactly like that. Repeating a bad point doesn't make that point good. That's why no one should take you seriously (except your fellow Meyers' ass-kissers).

Bottom line: just stop posting altogether, before you actually learn to think and accidentally hurt yourself.

(I absolutely bet that one or the other of those losers will flag this post, because "boo-hoo-hoo, I hurt their 'feelings'" [note: fanatics don't have feelings worth caring about.]. There are a lot of uncomfortable truths they don't wish to face, and making them go away is "safer" than actually facing them and learning valuable life lessons. This amuses the hell out of me. :D )

Siobhan Bill, you really undermine yourself with all your offensive asides. Right now you're on twilight turf, so maybe a little respect is due regardless of your feelings of the book? You have no idea where other people are at when they read certain books, don't judge everyone by your own agenda.

Lol!!

Honestly though, I think he problem here is this: we all have our own different ways of "judging" people whether they're worth debating and discussing with. Some of those judgements are on an emotional basis, i.e. how maturely someone behaves, and some of those are on intellectual ones. Bill clearly does it on an intellectual basis, while others do it on the emotional, and they really don't sit well together.

I guess sometimes it's just inevitable because the way people approach each other clash a lot.
