Steven Anderson What was your Best and Worst thing about this book. Mine are that Buck pull 1000 pounds of load for 100 feet. And my worst is that Buck ran With the wolves.

Ewa I agree with your choice of the best moment, the worst for me was the scene with a man in red sweater. I was less than 10 while reading this and it had shocked me to the core.

Aditya In my opinion, the best incident in this book is the rebellion which Buck instigates against Spitz.London's depiction of Buck's craving for power and seizure of authority from Spitz is perhaps the closest instance in the book which shows the parity between man and beast. It indeed reiterates the fact that civilization(in this case domestication) is just a veneer.

Richard Gill The best thing is that the book demonstrates societies inability to stand up in the face of nature. It shows one way, and only one way, that our existence can easily slip back to a natural state in spite of our best efforts to resist it. The worst thing is that it also demonstrates how far our society has drifted away from nature. It has tossed away the best of our natural characteristics as well as the worst leaving us helpless in the face of the reckoning that is sure to one day come.

Hannah I hate this book!!!! It's sooooo sad!!

Marcie I read this book for the first time last year. I did not like the way the dog was treated. I loved the loyalty that the dog had for his owner.

Feliks Best: Buck and his master's obvious and true love for one another. If only people were more capable of that, more often. The human half of that was wonderfully played by Clark Gable in the flick. Couldn't ask for better casting.

Worst: probably the opening scene with the Judge who owns Buck--in the beginning of the tale--he is beaten, am I right?

James I thought the best part was his total, unconditional love for his new master. Still, I thought the companion book, White Fang, was better.

Deepak i read it when i was a kid..and still it's one of my favorite books. And for me the best part was the relationship between thornton and buck..

James Deepak wrote: "i read it when i was a kid..and still it's one of my favorite books. And for me the best part was the relationship between thornton and buck.."I see a lot of consensus on that being the best part. It's parallel in White Fang, with Weedon Scott and his associate I still think was better done.

Cee The main thing I didn't love about the book was the type of dog Buck was. I don't know why, but the description if the dog didn't fit the story for me. There was also no prologue about Buck in the wild so I felt a bit betrayed (I was young). The conflict with Spitz was great though. The whole rest of the book was great. Then I read White Fang and Call of the Wild was bothing compared to that.
