Jonetta (ejaygirl) If you're using an eReader or tablet, which are you using? What's your experience with your device(s)? Do you still read printed books?

If you don't use an eReader, are there reasons you don't? Do you have questions about any of these devices? If so, post your questions here.

Julie (gpangel) I get 80% of my NEW books from Amazon for my kindle fire. I LOVE all the really cheap and free books. I do collect books though. Mainly OOP or HTF books, vintage and collectables. I still buy books just to read. I am actually going to a library sale tomorrow. But, I have to say I find my e-books to be a real joy. I am able to read more, check out new authors, carry hundreds of books with me everywhere I go. I never have to worry about not having enough room, or finding new homes for the books I can't keep. No allergy problems, good for the environment and on and on. I know this is an emotional issue for some people. But, I think as long as you are reading something, it doesn't matter. Enjoy your books however you like them best.

Janice (JaniceWJ) | 12 comments I primarily use my Kindles, but there are also certain authors I collect in hardback, so I usually buy two of those, one for the shelves and one for the Kindles. I prefer the Kindle because I can make the print as large as I need.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) I received a Sony Reader as a Christmas gift and began reading eBooks on it in January 2010. I got an iPad that following August and used the Kindle and Barnes & Nobles apps to download books as well. I used an app called Bluefire to load my Sony Reader library onto my iPad. About a year ago, I replaced my broken Sony with Kindle Touch (received as a birthday gift).

I pretty much read most of my books on my iPad and use the Kindle when I'm traveling or on the beach or in any situation where it's an issue to keep the iPad fully powered. I download many of my books from the library and purchase most from a site called Diesel eBooks.com. They give me rewards dollars for every book review I post, allowing them to be applied to book purchases (up to 50% of the total price).

I read eBooks exclusively now as I like having my entire library with me and easily accessed. I've gotten so used to using either the iPad or Kindle, it's no longer comfortable holding a real book! I never thought I could ever give up my print books, having loved everything about them all my life. I still like looking at my real bookshelves and am proud of all the books housed on them. But...I'm now an eBook girl these days.

I have a 1st Edition Nook and plan on using it until it dies. I like the fact that it is very simple to use. I mainly just want to read books. I also like eInk readers. Computer screens or tablets give me headaches if I try to read for a long period of time.

I have bought a few ebooks but prefer to download from the library. I sometimes will download free books however I seem to not get around to reading them because I TBR list from the library is way to long.

I also don't really like to read books that I don't really like so ebooks seem to work better for me. I can just send them back to the library and download more as long as I am at home.

Kris (My Novelesque Life) (mynovelesquelife) I have a Kobo Touch and primarily went with this brand as I was able to read my local library's eBooks on it. I was given an iPad for my b-day this year but have not yet read on it. I love that my eReader is small and light so that I can read it on the bus and that when I borrow eBooks from the library they are pristine and no odd smells :)

Mary | 100 comments I'm reading mostly printed books, not because I'm prejudice or anything about eReaders or tablets, I just don't own neither and my parents don't find them a very useful purchase so... However, these days I'm trying my luck in pdf books or those that are uploaded in scribd and read them on my pc. Of course,it's difficult to find all the books I want to read and in good quality, so I still buy most of them through Amazon
( my saver!!!).

Jean (otakumom) I use eReader apps on my smartphone. Since I read several books at once and jump from book to book, I have the books at my fingers at my whim with my smartphone. If I'm waiting for the kids at the bus stop or at some extra curricular activity, it is there without needing me to preplan bring the physical book and lugging it around.

The smartphone size also allows me to read the books significantly faster which is a good and bad thing. I have the font set that I can reach each screen within seconds. I'm kind of addicted to reading on my phone though I sometimes feel the urge to turn a page and hold a book in my hand.

I love that about smart phones...you always have a book with you! I get the same feeling, Jean so on the weekends I am at home I read printed books just so I can feel the actual book. lol.

Lady ♥ Belleza (bella_foxx) Long long time ago, I had a Palm Pilot (anybody remember those?). I read Tarzan on it. I liked reading it on the little screen, and being to carry it with me everywhere.

My first e-reader was a Sony, currently I have a Kobo which I am planning on upgrading to a Kobo-Glo so I can read it anywhere. I'm keeping the Kobo because I can download library books on it which is my main source of reading material.

I also have an iPhone with: iBooks, Kindle, Nook, and Kobo apps.

Hehe I totally agree on this. I've read so many books from the library that smell like sour milk. Ugh. Or are so dusty my allergies go crazy.

Liz (Bugetta) (bugetta) | 32 comments I have a nook, which I got because that was the only e-reader you could use for library books at the time. I just recently got a kindle keyboard at a library book sale, so now I can read my kindle books on the e-reader instead of my phone screen. As much as I like the convenience of being able to read books on my phone, I can't do it for very long. I get migraines and I try to avoid anything that might cause one.

I think about 2/3rds of the books I read this year were e-books, and since I have 100s of paperbacks on my tbr shelf I'm sure that won't change. :-D

message 13: by Quynh (new)

Quynh (quynh_o) I have a Kobo which is better for traveling since it's lightweight. I also have an iPad which I use at home mainly. I still read books and buy my auto-buy authors. It took me a while to get onto the ebook train but now that I have, it's hard to look back. And I totally agree on the non smelling books. I hate those cigarette smells on books!

message 14: by Jaret (new)

Jaret I am a huge fan of any way to love a book--audiobooks, e-books, and print books. My e-reader is a Sony because at the time it was the only version compatible with my public library. I also like that it's small enough to fit in my purse so I have it wherever I go. The battery also lasts a really long time so I don't worry too much about charging it. I actually loved it so much that I bought one for my dad for father's day a few years ago. Now he loves it because he can access the library 24 hours a day!

Do you know I just noticed that the other day! Never thought I would say that I prefer an ebook to a real book!

message 16: by Tracey (new)

Tracey (trakka) I received a Kindle keyboard for our 10th wedding anniversary 2 years ago and I love it. I am becoming more and more Kindle only however I do have a bookshelf with 4 shelves with books crammed in (doubled up and laying horizontal on the vertical ones) to read before I am 100% kindle. No, I don't have a book buying addiction :-)

message 17: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) Lol! Only other members here would agree you don't have an addiction, Tracey:)

message 18: by Tracy (new)

Tracy (notrace) I don't have one yet, but have dropped some heavy hints for a Kobo-Glo I like that it is lightweight and compatible with my library. It will take some getting used to for me but but I've heard that eReaders are a great place to hide large book collections.;)

message 19: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) You hear right, Tracy:) If you get the Kobo-Glo, come back and tell us about your experience.

Liz (Bugetta) (bugetta) | 32 comments Of course you don't have a book buying problem, Tracey. I mean if you do, then I'd have to admit I do and I'm not going to do it! :-D

I still like to buy paperbacks; there's something about the process of buying a physical book that is lacking when I click on the buy link in my e-reader. I also love wandering through the bookstore and discovering new books and authors. I wish they would offer something like they do with DVDs where if you bought the physical book, you could also get a digital copy. :)

Book addiction? us?

I would LOVE that idea - pristine book on shelf to admire and copy on kindle to read. Bliss!

message 23: by Raven (new)

Raven (missy_aurora) I have a Nook Touch and I mainly get ebooks from the library (really wishing I could get them from a variety of libraries in my state but that law was changed last year right after I got my Nook in December. I have gotten a few free books off of smashwords. I still frequent the library's paperback and hard cover collections but its mainly ebooks and about 1/4 paperback/hard cover.

I totally hear you Liz, I could never give up paper books. I like to browse the bookstores, flipping through pages and reading inside the jacket covers. I like the feel of books and the smell of new books in particular. Something about eReaders seems a little distant and cold. Now watch I'll probably be hooked and singing a different tune if I do get one. ;)

I know, wouldn't that be great! And it seems to work for the movie industry. I'd even be willing to pay a bit more for the physical/digital copy bundle, but not how it is now where you basically have to pay full price for the same book if you're purchasing a mass market paperback. *sigh* If only the NY Publishers would listen to me. :-D

message 27: by Lady ♥ Belleza (new)

Lady ♥ Belleza (bella_foxx) Liz and Tracy, you have to admit you have a problem before you can be helped. That is if you WANT to be cured of your book buying addiction.

Nope, I don't want to be cured either!

message 30: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) It is a SERIOUS addiction, one I own and am proud of:) Nope..not wanting or looking for a cure. I'm never going to run out of books to crave and love so this is a lifetime thing...yes!

message 33: by Victoria (new)

Victoria (victoria_escobar) | 5 comments I have a Nook and a Kobo for initial reading. Depending on how I like the book I'll buy a physical copy for rereading and an honorary place on the shelf. ^_^

message 34: by Maricarmen (new)

Maricarmen Estrada M I read in physical as well as in my iPhone. When I read ebooks I use Kindle, Stanza, and Kobo to read my elibrary. It's so portable that I love it. I also like the fact that I can change the color of the background and the size of the characters. Another thing I like a lot about reading in my phone is that I may fall asleep and I don't lose the page I was reading, and I can actually read with the lights off before bed. I don't have to worry about those things any more.

message 35: by Anika (new)

Anika (teddybear1) I use my kindle I can get more books and don't have to worry where I'll stack them if there they were paperbacks. I love my kindle and prefer it over the actual book.

message 36: by Barbara (new)

Barbara | 26 comments I own and use my Kindle 3G. Mostly I download free classics and use the "text to speech" to listen to them to and from work. My favorite kind of books to buy are trade paperbacks, they are lighter weight than hardback and cost less. I really like to read on my kindle, but I also love the way books feel and smell. I'm really sort of torn. Biggest downside to e-readers is that it's not as easy to loan and it is limited to one loan only, if at all. That's not right. If I buy a book I can loan it to as many people as I like.
