Brian Foster (bwfoster78) My father in law loves James Lee Burke, and my wife needs ideas for him for Christmas (my f-i-l, not Burke :) ) Since he has all of Burke's books, she thought that an author a lot like him would be a good possibility.

Any ideas?

When I asked him why he liked Burke, he told me it was because he likes the setting (he's from South Louisiana). He's seemed to have enjoyed all of Burke's books though, and it's my understanding that not all of them take place in La. I think he may also like the style.

Thanks in advance!

Brian

Richard Sutton (richardsutton) | 12 comments My wife and I both love JLB's work. Several times he's taken Dave and Clete up to Montana, and as different as the scenery is, the same pond scum seems to find its way North.

Phil (octlow) In the Sanctuary of Outcasts by Neil White... non-fiction but a great southern piece with history. Also White Doves at Morning by JLB... good historical fiction of a part of the Civil War. Both excellent choices!

Brad Rogers | 3 comments Try Greg Iles. The geography is similar (Mississippi, the Gulf etc...) same type of low life's, murders and so on. Burke and Iles are my to favorites.
