Kindle editions -- Where do you find the data for these?

I've gotten hundreds of free Kindle books. Sometimes there isn't a Kindle edition page for a particular book. Since we can't use any data from Amazon, where do we get Kindle data? I looked up a few books on the library sites, and the Kindle editions weren't listed. The author and publisher websites sometimes don't have any information about a Kindle edition other than stating that there's one available and maybe including the link to Amazon. Can we add a Kindle edition to this site if we find a reference to it at the author or publisher website? What if we can't find any evidence of a Kindle edition other than the Amazon site -- can we still add the edition here, leaving out Kindle-specific data like the ASIN?

It can be found on the kindle device/pc but you need to know where to navigate to on the devices to find it I think there are other threads about this but this is the first I found

I am in a similar situation to you. In instances where a kindle book I own does not have an edition on GR I will download the book from my amazon archive using the pc kindle app. After doing that I am able to find the ASIN number from the kindle content folder (in my documents) and I can use the publication page in the book itself to see all the necessary details. For the cover I take a screenshot of the cover on the book's cover page using a cool tool callee jing.Doing this is slightly more work than searching on amazon but doesn't break any rules since I am looking in a book I own.
Unfortunately I don't have a good answer in cases where you do not own the book. :(
If you have the book in hand (even virtually) you can enter the information from the book itself. If not, just enter what you can find from author and/or publisher websites. (Often a link to Amazon for the Kindle edition will include the ASIN in the link's URL, which counts as the publisher or author listing the ASIN; if not, you can leave it blank.) If you don't have any official information source but you're sure you have the title and author correct, put in anything you know and let someone else provide the rest later. A complete record is better than a partial record, but a partial record is better than no record at all (and can always be updated or merged into a complete record once more is known).
Caution: sometimes when converting a print edition to ebook format the front pages showing an isbn number are not edited to replace with aisn, bnid, etc. I notice particularly with library ebooks.
If you don't have brands of screen captures mentioned:Screen prints of book covers in iPad apps for kindle, nook, etc.: while viewing bookcover (bigger and better in books where provided or see library thumbnails) hold at same time the power and home buttons, then go to your camera roll and you can edit to crop and send images.
Screen prints on windows pc: view cover and hit Print Screen button (PrtScn or however your keyboard wants to abbreviate), open graphics program (one that came with windows is under "accessories" called "paint" if you haven't installed others), hold Ctrl and press V keys to insert a copy (or in different programs may be under Edit-paste or Tools-paste menus). Select an area, crop and save file (in paint and most programs drag to select then look under edit or tools menus to crop).
There's always apps and software to do it better (screen capture ones that let you select a specific area have been useful and save the cropping step); but, those are the ones I know come free with your system and work fairly standard ways.
Like email, goodreads discussion threads, etc.—once you do a couple of times is old hat.
Screenshots on a Mac are Cmd+Shift+4. Will turn your mouse pointer into crosshairs and you can click and drag a box around the cover. Releasing the mouse will take the screenshot. By default, the Mac places the screenshot on your desktop.
Thank you all for the info. Since I'm not the only one who was wondering about what to do for Kindle books, I think someone should add a section to the Goodreads librarian manual about adding Kindle books. It should cover the questions some of us had and any other Kindle-specific info that we may not have thought to ask about.

More and more people are enjoying e books . Too bad we can't use Amazon's information. It makes it tricky.

Not convinced kobo and other ebook sellers won't wake up and give gr permissions in the meantime—but currently we have restrictions.

Probably could use a note as well that the Barnes and Noble bnid starting with 294### goes in isbn-13 field while the isbn-10 field needs be be left blank.
Not by me. I know little about the format(s) or where to find the appropriate data (outside what I've read in the threads). My interest in Kindle format is mostly because I like to see all the editions of a work have a pub date.
I was just looking at a book which I have in the kindle edition, that appears to have several "kindle" versions. They do not seem to be combined, and when i went to combine my book with the other versions, i saw two other "kindle" books alredy listed. I need to check the metadata for each, but am I wrong to suspect that they are duplicates?
So this one has no cover http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/13...And this one http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/13..., no format or asin
And this one http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/99... has a cover but is not combined with this version http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/67.... Which also has a kindle Ed
http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/13... (no asin)
I need some guidance on sorting these out please. I am willing to do what I should.....
