The Elite question

We have obviously seen more of Maxon, and hence we all like him.
I suspect now that aspen is here, Cass is going to make this hard for us by giving us more reason to love aspen. Its the whole Bad boy Vs "high n Mighty" , Prince Vs Pauper.
TEam MAxon! i guess, But i think Aspen might win out .

I don't hate Aspen

Well, what I think will happen in The One is this: Ames will be caught kissing Aspen and then Maxon will be horrified. But I really don't think Elise or Celeste will end up being queen. What would be the point of the whole series if the main character does not win? I think Cass will make the One about how America finds the strength to become a good princess, and that her idea to *SPOILER* get rid of the castes will happen.

I love Aspen! He is a great guy! He has wanted the best for America the whole time. Don't get the hate at all. I think people probably just hate him because they want Maxon which I don't get because I don't think he is any better than Aspen. He is okay but hasn't really done anything outstanding IMO.

I don't hate Aspen as character,I just hate his actions. He claims he loves America and wants what's best for her, yet he is constantly sneaking around planning dates for them RIGHT AFTER HE SAW WHAT HAPPENED TO MARLEE FOR DOING THE SAME THING. How stupid is he???

aspen's not that bad... i mean some things he did were cute, but i think maxon is better for america, if u've read "the prince" then u'd get that maxon liked america than all the other girls despite that she was a five...

well, after reading The Elite, i was not that in love with Maxon as i did before. I was disappointed with his behabiour with Celeste. cant believe that!
So, i might be a little more Team Aspen now!

Okay, I'm totally fangirling when it comes to Maxon-seriously, I'm pretty sure that I'm in love with a fictional character. :P

As a female, I'm a sucker for such sweet boys(that could never actually exist like Maxon) He is always there for America-even when she a total *cough* to him. At first I was full-on team Aspyn and I was so surprised that many viewers were pulling for the prince, and then the story went on and- well now I'm one of the world's biggest fangirls. I'm seriously dying for The Elite (less than two weeks left whoot whoot) to come out!

PS: Seriously guys, Aspen 's not the bad guy here though, Y'all just blinded by your love for Maxon. Benefit of the doubt and all that. But yeah.. i get where everyones coming from.

Its a beautiful story. With 2 people falling for each other as they grow up, recognizing each others values, strengths and intelligence. And then making a mistake that introduces a new person to their love life. Without much effort the new boy slowly grows fond of the girl. and the old boyfriend rises in the social structure with his new assignment as solider. Fortunately the opportunity presents itself and the girl of three finds closure with a boy of two and informs the boy of one that she may already be falling for him. Giving Maxon a fair chance is quite judicious of her. Personally, I would like to know the depth of her relationship with Aspen before I chose Max or Asp.

As for storyline of Elite, shoudl Cass continue the flow of the selection I think America will gain some political standing and Maxon gain required cover for keeping her in the Elite. She might land up helping Maxon with the rebel problem. My imagination is limited when it comes to thinking how Aspen could try to win Mer back. Along side Mer-Max will grow closer and passionately in love with each other.
Anyway! First twist (the devastating loss) could be to have Max discover that Mer contacted her ex-lover; causing Mer and Max to fight. Yet again during their disagreement Max would ask Mer to withdraw from any political issue. Mer will gain popularity in the family and the people to prove to Max that she isn't going without a fair fight. Aspen will realize her love/admiration for him and quit with his efforts of trying to win her back. At some point Celeb will try to poison Max's mind about Mer's growing jealousy; instead making him realize Mer's interests.

team Maxon all the way. i mean i like aspen and all but i mean he was a major jerk to her when all she was trying to do was help him and then he comes back into her life then moment she is finally letting go and had a chance for happiness. and i think she could be a great queen because she is so kind but not afraid to stand up for something she believes in like when Celeste asked her to give her, her dress.

Maxon is the best choice. He loves America, like from the start. I know Aspen loves her, but hes broken her heart once and doesn't want her to end up a six and starve blah blah blah. But he had his chance and their risking America's life to be together. It has to be Maxon. Prince or not if they were both the same caste or whatever she should choose Maxon. She was his first kiss, and his first date. Maxon doesn't care about caste, but Aspen does. No matter what he says he does. I don't think it's smart of her to see Aspen again especially when she's like Maxon's possession stupid but true. And its not fair to Maxon he's been nothing but caring, understanding, comforting,loving, and trying to do everything for her to stay. I think he really meant it when he said one he could be happy with her for the rest of his life, and when he said he could forgive anything of her. Now if she told him that Aspen was there, he would protect her, and if she asked him to not do anything to harm him he wouldn't, I believe. He doesn't deserve this. Aspen does, but not Maxon. But America won't she's either too scared that Maxon will hate her, will harm Aspen, and mostly doesn't want it to end with Aspen, because she's won't forget about Aspen stupid of her when she has someone who will love, protect, care about, she'll get the royal treatment in love(not just because he is royal too). He even said and I quote, "If this were a simpler matter,I'd eliminated everyone else by now. I know how I feel about you. Maybe it's impulsive of me to think I could be so sure, but I'm certain I would be happy with you." Also she's the only he kept for the Elite because she wasn't a favorite among his family (Kriss and Natalie) or favorite among the people (Marlee) or a powerful young woman with good family connections (Celeste)or Connections in New Asia (Elise), he kept her because he truly loves her, not because of the promise he said he would keep too. That's true love right there. He sent someone home because she was talking wrongly about America. She just has to choose Maxon. I mean even though she lost the bet she still gave her pants only for Saturdays but still. And instead of sending just one sweet for May to try he sent THREE boxes of it. Also when he heard of her hardships and the others for fives sixes and eights he made a program from it. Sweet right. It's definitely Maxon she'll choose. TEAM MAXON!

*WARNING SPOILERS*

I really disagree with the comparison of Maxon and Peeta, maybe because I didn't like Peeta very much, but anyways, moving on.

The reason(s) I dislike Aspen now are simple. After callously dumping Mer (after she spent so much time, money and effort trying to doing something nice for him) and refusing to value her opinion on their relationship, even after they talk in private after he's had time to calm down. He doesn't care that she think's they could make it work, his pride won't let him accept gifts from her, he think's she'd be happier married to the prince. Never mind the fact that she had her mind made up to not sign up for the selection before she asked for his opinion..

His behaviour before Mer leaves home isn't really helping his case, but even setting that aside, the minute he see's America alone he asks her if she loves Maxon, when she says no, he promptly starts making out with her...no apology, no nothing...really, just saying "I'm sorry" breathily before sweeping her into his arms would have made it 100x better. Nearly all the private time he has with Mer is spent making out. At least Maxon acknowledges that she has a brain, he asks her for her opinion on things that matter to him, they actually TALK. Aspen is content to make his own decisions alone, and that's fine, if only he would let America make her own decisions for herself as well, instead of basically issuing a decree. First he's not good enough for her, then he's barging in when she's trying to mend her broken heart and reclaiming her, without talking to her about it first! First he tells her to sign up for the selection, then he get's all huffy that, OMG, after he dumped her and she ended up spending a ton of time with a prince (on the inside and outside) she actually might care for said prince and not want to betray him after he's been so nice to her.

So far, Aspen hasn't done much to redeem himself, if that changes in the Elite, I'll revise my opinion of him, until then..shoo Aspen!

*Back to the Hunger Games comparison (again SPOILERS), I'm kind of sad that you'd compare the Maxon and Aspen with Peeta and Gale. I feel like there are much fewer romantic interactions between the heroine and her love interests in the Hunger Games than in the Selection and it isn't really fair to Peeta and Gale. Also, I kind of feel that Peeta and Gale are kind of minor characters compared to Katniss, and she isn't thinking about them all the time, she's more focused on survival and the horrible governmental system than romance. In comparison, America is primarily thinking about either Aspen, Maxon, or her girlfriends, and the unfair system is a bit of an afterthought. One is more political and one is more social...and it reflects on the characters, in my opinion. Because the main focus is on the social aspect in the Selection, I feel like I know Maxon and Aspen better than I knew Peeta and Gale (by the end of the first novel at least) and I feel like comparing a book 1 Peeta to a book 1 Maxon isn't fair to Maxon, he comes off as so much more animated and fleshed out than Peeta did in the first novel of the Hunger Games.

There is nothing wrong with Aspen. He might have his morals backward if he did not want to be with America because of the whole selection thinng but he never cheated and tried his hardest to be with her again and make everything up to her. So don't hate on Aspen. It does not matter whether you are team maxon or what. Just don't hate Aspen. I am for Maxon by the way

regardless of the flip side to anything Aspen related, i think that i'm still team Maxon. i don't know - i feel like there's ulterior motives with Aspen that aren't completely on the up and up that we'll see in The Elite. i may hold off on passing complete judgement just yet, but i have to say that i think we'll see another side to Aspen that isn't so great - aside from just trying to get Mer back.

I really hope she'll choose Maxon! Aspen may be a great guy/friend/past love, but he did make a big error and now that things are going fine for America and she started to open up her heart again he comes back. I think he needs to let her go because he chose to give her up and she had decided to move on and the right thing to do is to let her.
I really hope things between Maxon and America will develop futher. I really want them to end up together! If they don't end up together I would be so upset. No, scratch that devastated fits the description better.
