Prabha, I can't believe you looked up the William McKinley Administration and now know my age. Can't a guy grow old in peace around here???As for rereading Pride and Prejudice, it's going to have to get in line because I am so far behind in my promises to other books (they hold me to it -- they're not spineless, after all).
Ha ha about the flying monkeys. I was thinking The Wizard of Oz, and you were thinking the back yard. Oh those mischievous Malaysian monkeys (always game to help one teach alliteration).

My favourite place to read is Błonia Park (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/B%C5%82o...) or a balcony of my apartament.
I will read anywhere, anytime I get a moment. I love reading in the living room, in the bedroom, even in the kitchen while waiting on the microwave. I too can not read in the car. But have been known to read at the stoplights when its a can't-put-it-down!!
Anne, I also read while making dinner....and that includes waiting on the microwave!!
Holli, that is the ONLY way I make dinner lolol! Actually, I am using the stove right now, to boil pasta....
I love reading in bed or in a big comfy chair. I also like reading in coffee shops, but only when I know the chances of me running into someone I know are slim to none (so I don't have to keep scanning the room). But I'll make an attempt to read anywhere, except the car.
My place is in bed, it's the only room I can make everyone get out of ("You don't want me in your room so you get out of mine."-to the kids) and have some peace. Unfortunately I am usually limited to after they have went to bed to get any time in as I can't read with all of the loud laughing/yelling/playing/fighting/etc...that goes on in the background most of the time! Maybe I should just take off to the library like some others do and read up there.
I have a swing outside that converts to a futon, in Tucson it's pretty nice to read here all year. Otherwise it's in my leather rocker/recliner.
I carry a book around with me at all times- I never know when I have some time to kill; it maybe when I'm waiting for the bus, ON the bus, waiting for friends at a cafe... But I try to read every night before bed. It takes me some time to finish reading, but I WILL get there!
Me too, blktoast. I always have a book with cause I spend loads of time in public transport. Now there is - 15 degrees Celcius in Cracow and snowing journey anywhere is an adventure.
My mom saw that my purse was bulging a couple of weeks ago and she said, "You brought a book with you to the grocery store?!" I was like, "Uh, yeah..."It's a little sad that my family knows I read a lot, but they don't know it at the same time.
Lori, My Dad passed away three years ago, my mom doesn't drive, and my sister lives too far away to take her to the grocery store. So, I take her, and sit at the Starbucks and read while she shops. At least I know I can read there for an hour or two uninterrupted!
I think what surprised my mom the most was that I went to the grocery store by myself.
I'm with all the people who love to read in a tub. I read in a hot bath every morning and every night. I usually sit putting in more hot water for about 30 minutes before washing. It's my #1 favorite place to read and has been since I was in high school.I do a lot of reading at work, actually. Any extra time I have I read. I keep books in my car like others and in the bathroom and next to my bed and in my purse. I can't watch tv and read at the same time and in fact rarely watch tv. I can listen to instrumental music, though.
I don't dole out how much I'm going to read, I usually read 3-5 books at a time, plus a few books of poetry. I'll read until I'm satisfied or wanting to pick something else up. It's hard to say how much I get finished this way. I probably average 1.5-2 novels per week.
Re: Pride and Prejudice - wow! I've found that the classics are so much better as an adult. I'm on an Austin kick right now and just finished "Persuasion." I also love Dickens and Eliot. I couldn't catch the humor or the irony in these novels when I was in high school. Now they seem like wonderful stories and are enjoyable when re-read.
This is a hard one. I'm pretty happy on my couch, but my couch is so comfortable that I inevitably nod off. So if I want to stay awake and have the time, I like reading in a quiet coffee shop. There tends to be a lot of thoughtful energy in the air.
I usually like reading while on the bus or any other public transportation mode; makes the trip a little less dreary. I also enjoy reading in the car, provided I am not up front. I also enjoy reading in bed; helps me to wind down the day.
I like reading in 'my corner' of the couch or in a big comfortable chair. I do most of my reading in the evenings so how much depends on how early I get started, and later on whether my bed or the book is more appealing that night.
I currently do most of my reading sitting on my sofa with my 33.5 lb cat Tigger stretched out on one side of me and my 10 lb cat T.S. Elliot curled up on the other side. But at 10 p.m., the three of us move to my bed.
Wow LJ, that's some cat! Love the names... I read anywhere, but my favorite places are the bathtub, the beach and on the loveseat with my head on the armrest.
I love to read in bed when I first wake up in the morning, with a cup of coffee. That's when I'm most alert (but having the coffee is a MUST). Best days for this are Saturday and Sunday, no rushing off to work.

PS: Lots of rain and, in some places, even monkeys, flying here in Malaysia, and yes, some books do fly despite whatevers flying outside!
