Prepare your shelves for our yearly challenge

I tried to get as much of my I own it list done as possible. I will not be adding any books that I bought in 2013...but some of the books show as added to the list today January 1st, because it's the first chance I've had to make the bulk of my list. There is still another 600 on my kindle, but I think the 557 on the list so far is a good enough start.

Can I still participate if I just now am reading this? I don't have one of those "own but not read" shelves but I can whip that together real quick.

Apparently I'm not as done as I thought. I exported my reading list to Excel Spreadsheet and more than half of the books that I added to I OWN IT didn't get added. Goodreads has been a pain in the rear the last few days with stuff not adding, freezing up, etc. Anyone else having this problem?


Also, I get books from Netgalley, Edelweiss and from authors. Can these books count if I had them in my possession before December 31st, but they are published officially in 2013? What's the rule on ARCs? I have a ton of those lying around my house.

Ugh. Goodreads has being doing that for me too, Good to know I'm not the only one.

No you don't have to use Excel. I send my stuff to an excel spreadsheet so that I can find books easier for various challenges. As I was going through it, I noticed that a ton of books I added to the list for this challenge didn't save to that spreadsheet.

I have been having issues just adding books to correct shelves...it is sooooo frustrating!!!!

Yeah. There's a lot of goodreads bugs lately. I think it's the new template (The one with the big green 'want to read' button. The other one worked better)

So a month ago I made a list of 2013 challenge books and already had a read list and a owned list. How do I know if I'm a part of the challenge?

Okay. You only need an 'owned' list. There is a challenge on the group home page that says 'Dustbuster Challenge' and sign up by entering the number of books to read (Aka, the number of books on your 'owned' shelf) and type in a NEW name for a 'read' shelf.
However, if you have already made a 'read' shelf but have not entered then challenge, delete your read shelf and, start it again by typing it in on the challenge.

I'm so sorry, but i had forgotten my eBooks, so I had to update my number to be read! I hope I'm not giving you too many troubles with my thoughtlessness!
If I find any other forgotten book I'll just ignore it! Promise!

I only have 110 books on my read shelf - and I have already read 21 of them! You guys have the problem of too many books - I don't have enough! :*( lol

Lissa, you can join at any time. Just make sure whatever books you have listed on your shelf are purchased before 12am on 1/1/2013

I've actually already started working on this challenge this year. I have like over 50 books that I've gotten from book sales that I need to read through before I get many more books.

I will start making a bookshelf for it soon :)

Ok, started adding to my dustbuster shelf, but then had to go back because adding to the shelf automatically marked some of the books as "Read." Argh!! :)

I'm thinking about doing this challenge, although I've also challenged myself to reading at least one new indie book a month. I know that doesn't sound like a lot, but between working on the ambulance 24 hour shifts and writing (half dozen wips) and acting like I'm still married, lol, reading falls to a distant fourth or fifth.

But, so far, I've gotten three books read this year, and I'd like to catch up to my stacks. Have a few of my fave authors that have the next books in their series coming out and I still haven't started the last one. How sad is that?

Mine are catching more dust this year. I've only read one. I've been busy with R2R's, and new releases on series reads as well. Oh well, it's only February!!! lol

It's an excellent challenge though, Cristina! I would have never read Some of books i did (and am going to) if it wasn't for this challenge!
