Liz Meeks | 6 comments This book is quite old and the title never sticks in my head. its about a boy in a old large house that is connected to other realms/kingdoms. the book has policemen with no faces, a servant who does nothing but wind all the clocks throughout the house. there is a sequel/tribute written by someone else. There are various characters in the different realms. any help would be appreciated

Abigail (handmaiden) | 391 comments How old are you thinking it was? Is it a children's book? (or Middle Grade, YA, or Adult?) Was the main character a boy throughout?

This one loosely fits: The High House, by James Stoddard.

The more specific clues you can remember, the better.

Maybe Titus Groan or another of The Gormenghast Novels? I think one of them has faceless policemen.

Sue Elleker | 1053 comments I thought of The High House, but James Stoddard wrote the sequel The False House, as well.

Liz--if you are worried about some of your memories being spoilers, you can "hide" spoilers in your posts.

Type < $ poiler > to start (take out the spaces and the $ becomes an S) then type in your message. To end it put a / in front of the S in spoiler.

It will (view spoiler)
