NICE! I'd be happy with any of those.
I just realised too that I didn't put a time limit on noms yet. I'm thinking that since there are going to be so many nominations per person for this one, we might be better off making this a lightning round (ie one week). We can always have another more of these in the future, so if people miss out on nominating there will be lots more chances.
So with that in mind:
NOMINATIONS CLOSE ON WEDNESDAY 7 NOVEMBER!
(Australian Eastern Standard Time - so it pays to be early!)

I'm really struggling with the zombie shelf. Every single book is either something I've read and loved or something I'm dying to read.
I'm thinking I'll nominate Zone One because it's available on Kindle, whereas "Every Sigh The End" isn't. That's pretty much the only way I can decide between them :)

This is going to be the toughest poll EVER. I wish we could do preferential voting for 5points, 4points, 3points etc. :(
Sadly, Listopia gets a bit crazy with other people randomly voting, adding books etc, or I'd set it up that way.

Hmmm, I'll bet there's a way you could do some kind of 'instant runoff voting', which would be more like a point system. Or an abbreviated version with a runoff between the top two choices.

I think you'd have to do it as two different polls. I know you don't have enough to do on this group....

The Master and Margarita (classics and mieville's 50 socialist)
The Shining (places as personalities)

If I thought it wouldn't turn into a messy, messy nightmare I'd do it. But I can see the messy. So much messy. :(

I've been dying for an excuse to read that."
That sounds great. TBRed.
In case you missed it, the Group Read POLL IS NOW OPEN and will close on Sunday 18 November (my time, so please vote early).
There are some really, REALLY awesome books up there. We need a lot of people voting to separate out a winner, I think!

We set the dates as we go Petra. When we've voted for a book, I post the dates of the read, depending on how long the book is and any other considerations at the time.
I'd say this discussion would start in early December, but it depends on how long/dense/available the chosen book is.

Yeah we really DO need people to vote on this one. There are only two votes separating the top TEN nominations!
I'm starting to think we may need to go to a secondary vote. It's only got a few hours left, and it's too close to call. Maybe we can have a lightning poll (3 days?) for those that got 2 or more votes?

I like that idea! This is really a tough one.

Currently, there are 3 books with 3 votes and 3 with 2 votes. How about featuring the 3 vote books in December and the 2 vote books in January?
Unfortunately, my library has none of the 3 vote books (otherwise I would have voted differently). Can everyone obtain copies of these three books?
If I changed my vote right now, I could force a win by any one of those top 3..........Bwahahahaha!
So I'm keen to see what people think we should do. Petra's suggestion is interesting - 3 books in December. People could read as many as they like (0-3) and we could have a discussion thread for each. Is this something people think would work? Or would that mean smaller discussion groups?
I'm not keen to stretch it into January though. I like to keep the polls happening fairly regularly. And it's good to have fresh books to vote on!

Even trying to figure out what to do with my vote is driving me nuts. I've read Battle Royale, but I'm not sure it's a great group discussion book. Then again, I'd love to see some modern Asian fiction get up.
I don't want to read Palimpsest as a group right now, because it's too close to some of the fantasy the group has been reading recently.
I think Last Exit To Brooklyn would be a fantastic group read. Then again, coming straight after High-Rise, it might be too much "urban lifestyles" in one go. Although I suspect they're VERY different books!

And then if I voted for any of the 1 vote books, I'd have an excuse to get them in the run-off poll. I really would like to read The Savage Detectives.....
And what about Zone One? And Set This House in Order: A Romance of Souls?!
Fuck.

VOTING CLOSES WEDNESDAY 21 NOVEMBER!
VOTING CLOSES WEDNESDAY 21 NOVEMBER!
I can't believe it, but Last Exit To Brooklyn and Battle Royale are still pretty much tied. There's one vote in it, and that's mine. I only voted Last Exit.. because I've already read Battle Royale!
So here's what I think we'll do: We'll put up Group Read threads for BOTH Last Exit To Brookyln AND Battle Royale. It's a December extravaganza! I'll put the details up shortly, but I'm thinking early December, starting the same day for both.
If there's enough interest, I'll start threads for the third and fourth place books also. What the hell - it's Chaos Reading, right?

Okay, done. This was in danger of becoming a never-ending book poll!
I'll start a new thread with the details..

Here's the deal: You can nominate as many books as you like, as long as each one is from a different Chaos Reading shelf!
I have a feeling we're going to get some amazing choices for the next poll! (Not to mention a very BIG poll!) They'll all be books that have been recommended by group members as being the best in their particular category. So go browse the shelves, and let us know what you want to read next......
