For anyone who has read this and Harry Potter, do you see the similarities? Don't get me wrong, I love them both. For those who don't know:

Harry Potter has messy black hair and green eyes.
Lived with unkind relatives.
Found out he was a wizard at age 11.
Fought evil his first year at school (and nearly every year after that)
Very sensitive about failure and blamed himself when things went wrong (often felt guilt for things out of his control)
Has two best friends, one of which is a girl.

Percy Jackson has messy black hair and green eyes.
Lives with mom and unkind step-father.
Found out he's a demigod at age 12.
Went on quest that ultimately sent him to Underworld and had a brush with something "evil".
Has two best friends, one of which is a girl.
Also feels guilt over things that are not always his fault.

I'm not trying to be critical or anything, it's just something I noticed as I was reading.

Well, it is a popular story tactic to have one main character and have their friends be one of each gender, so the book appeals to males and females alike.

Hmmm never noticed this. Doesn't bother me though both stories are great and i can differentiate them.

I realized that too.....but it doesn't bother me because Percy and Harry are my favorite book characters of all!!! =D

Barbara I've noticed a lot of similarities between the two stories, not just with the main characters. In Titan's Curse, Percy got the feeling Chiron was hidi ...more
