It's true about something for everyone. Totally agree. I think you and Michael have just the right balance of staying on topic, yet staying relaxed and spontaneous. I've started at the beginning to hear all the shows I've missed and am up to Episode 72. Can you imagine how many books I've bought this month??? (I am NOT going to add up the $$.) Will have to start using the library more, for sure.
I've become very fond of Why I really like this book at http://www.reallylikethisbook.com/Very short (about ten minutes each) podcasts on why you should read that particular book.
@len I listen to Kindle Chronicles although I read both, it is good! Tons of great suggestions above. Thank you for opening this thread. I can't wait to have time to listen to the new ones...

Lots of great recommendations here. One I haven't seen is Writers and Company, Eleanor Wachtel's interview show: http://www.cbc.ca/writersandcompany
Wachtel is a great interviewer.
Wachtel is a great interviewer.
I tried the CBC podcast for a while but frankly I was a little put off by the all Canadian writer format. I know it's a show about Canadian writers but I just lost interest.

I find it heartening to learn that there are enough Canadian books out there to put someone off.

No problem Gerald, I wasn't taking offence at all. My sense of humour doesn't translate well to print.
But back to the subject of book podcasts: does anyone have any more Australian podcasts to recommend?

Jay - Thanks for telling us about The Book Riot Podcast. It's a new one that I hadn't heard of until you mentioned it. Looks like it has Rebecca from Bookrageous (my second favorite podcast, next to BOTNS, of course). I am loving it so far! So glad you shared.
One that hasn't been mentioned but is excellent is the First Tuesday Book Club from Australia. It's actually a TV show but I sometimes listen without watching the video. Format is host and 2 regular cohorts, Marieke Hardy and Jason Stieger plus 2 guest authors. Everyone brings a book they have just read. I found Wallace Stegner thanks to this podcast and last month one of the guests was Carlos Ruiz Zafon
Book Riot has started a podcast and it is marvelous. Rebecca Schinsky and Jeff O'Neal have great chemistry and are funny as well. Makes it a perfect combo for me plus they talk about books and events in the publishing world, allowing me to feel like I am keeping up with things instead of falling behind!

Thanks I will check it out.
I am loving Other People. They have their own iPhone App and interview a lot of debut authors, which are my favorite. They also interview other literary type people...Ann & Michael recommended the episode with Lee Boudreaux who is editorial director at Ecco, which I believe is a Harper Collins imprint. That was a good episode. Brad Listi is the host and listening to him takes some getting used to...he digresses a lot and leaves long pauses in his narration.

I think Brad is awesome and I like that he talks to the authors about things other than their books or characters. Very entertaining!
Chanda, I also just discovered the Bat Segundo show...jury is still out on that one and I wonder where they got that name!
I just posted a list of my favorite podcasts on my blog if you are interested: http://ofbooksandbikes.wordpress.com/...Thanks to all who posted here -- I've discovered several new podcasts this way!
I'd love to take credit for that, Emily, but I'm not sure I recommended that one! I think I listened once or twice and didn't get back to it. (Maybe I missed something, though?) I'm going to listen again based on your recommendation!Emily wrote: "Hey Rebecca,
Thank you so much for suggesting the Unprintable podcast. I'm thoroughly addicted.
I just listened to episode #1 of "Hear Read This!", a new podcast with Simon and Gavin of The Readers and Kate & Rob of Adventures with Words. Each month they will pick two books to review. In yesterday's episode they talked about "HHhH" by Laurent Binet and "Mr. Penumbra's 24 Hour Bookstore". I really enjoyed this podcast!
Of course my favorite podcast is BOTNS but my second favorite is Book Riot. I always find that BOTNS is too short and Book Riot is too long. One of their recent episodes was 1.5 hours. This is just a rant...you can go back to your reading now.
I recently started to listening to BotNS, Dear Book Nerd, and The Readers and love all three. Love seeing the little red "one" showing there's a new episode in my podcast app! I listened to a couple of Book Riot episodes and was put off. Maybe it was just the episodes I listened to, but they veered off just a pure book-loving listen too much.
I'll have to check out "Hear Read This!" Thanks, Kendra :-)

I'm not a big Book Riot fan, either. I liked the first few episodes, but the more I followed their page, the less I liked the podcast. I feel like they make everything into some sort of political/societal issue. Can't a book just be a book?
I listen to many podcast and I find that one hour should be enough time for a well planned podcast. Longer podcast tend to ramble(mostly tech related) and I turn them off. I listen to many book related podcast and I also find Book riot a little to stat related and political which turns me off. As for book nerd it never got out of the amateur style. iTunes allows you to unsubscribe from a podcast but keeps the podcast on your list until you manually delete it.

Agreed...somtimes Book Riot gets on a tangent. Anything over 1 hr. is too much for me.
I'm always sorry when BOTNS is over but I think the format of this is perfect for me. Just long enough, broken into segments, you know what you'll get and always leaves me wanting next Wednesday to roll round.

If I know that a podcast is short and sweet like BOTNS I won't turn it off. Podcast that are long(some over two hours) I will turn off and I might go back to it. Thankfully most bookcast are and hour or less.
It's interesting to me how different people use podcasts - a lot of you seem to like shorter (<1 hour) and less rambling ones, but those that ramble and last longer are often my particular favorites. Of course, I listen at work, so there's a lot of time in my day to fill. As for Book Riot, I think they market themselves as talking about book news, so they really aren't just about books. Let's face it, a lot of book news, whether about mergers or awards or authors, is often political and sociological. I love how many more options there are now versus a few years ago... something for everyone :)
I'm the cohost of the ABC Book Reviews Podcast. We've been doing it for 7+ years. It's been a bit inconsistent due to schedules and such - my cohost just got a big job at a big library, and so I've been dealing with all sorts of fun podcasting tech stuff I haven't had to worry about before. But I just posted several new podcasts, three of which are author interviews. So you guys might want to check it out :-)www.abcbookreview.com
I love BOTNS, but I don't listen to too many others. I'll have to check these out!
I just found out about a new podcast by the Man Booker Prize:

GMTA....I listened to it today at lunch.

Although the last thing I need is another podcast to listen to (I listen to a bunch of book-related ones and am always behind!), I just discovered one that I love - Pop Culture Happy Hour, an NPR podcast - they do discuss books sometimes but also movies, TV, music - all pop culture. It's a lot of fun with a great hosting cast.

I don't usually have a problem with people's language, my dad WAS a sailor, but it just seemed like they were doing it for show. Seemed high schoolish and just immature. I got to thinking "I actually don't care what these people think". Haven't listened to another one. I like The Readers podcast. It's fun, and they don't seem to just be showing it all up.
I agree about Literary Disco but I figured I'm just not in their demographic. I do like Book Riot(guess I already said that) and they are a bit younger than me.

I agree that I'm not the right demographic for Literary Disco either. I listen to BookRiot now and then but have found their All The Books more to my liking.
Another of my favorites that I don't think I've mentioned here is Cindy Wolfe Boynton's Literary New England, authors from or books about New England.

The thing that I love about podcasting is that there is something for everyone. Not everyone will love every show, and that's OK. Some people think that Michael and I are "too nice" since we don't talk about books we don't enjoy. That's fine.
And Toni, thank you so much for your kind words about BOTNS!
