I think the older Nancy Drew books are better. The Nancy Drew series is suppose to be about mysteries, while the new books are just trying to scare children to either read more or give up on ever reading the stories ever again.

message 252: by [deleted user] (new)

I have a collection book, that has 3 stories in it. I wondered what numbers they were, so I looked them up. The book numbers were: 168, 172, and 175. Could these be the new stories, or are these more original stories from Nancy Drew, that no one talks about? If you could please answer my question. :D

I believe there were 75 original Nancy Drew Mystery Stories. I read the original ones growing up and fell in love. I have only read 1 or 2 "Nancy Drew Files" books, which is a newer kind of Nancy Drew. If you look up Nancy Drew on a Google search, find the Wikipedia link and it gives you a list of the original mystery stories and the various branch off Nancy Drew books. Such as the Nancy Drew Files, video games, comic books, and even a series of when George, Bess, and Nancy were in Elementary school. There are many to keep up with. I don't believe numbers #168, 172, and 175 are apart of the original mystery series though. Hope that helps some! =)

Ashlee is right - the main (original) series of Nancy Drew books are the ones with the yellow covers. :-) The ones you are referring to (I think I have that 3 volume book, too!) are still part of the Nancy Drew series, but they are modern stories that were written a couple years ago or so. I've read some of them and they are actually good! The originals are probably better, though. :-)

Did you know that they got together in the tv series in couple of the episodes of Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew but some of the episodes they were by themselves.

As old as I am (ie technically to old for nancy drew) I still love them and re read them.

Kayla Hi all, I'm new here, still slowly building my collection as it sounds like many others are. I picked up one of the new novels, not sure which one now but I didn't really like it as much as the classics. So I've decided to limit my collections to the complete classic series (first and second sets 1-50, and 50-150or something like that), Nancy Drew Files (which are my personal favourites)and Nancy Drew Campus (I only own 2 but have read four). All in all I think my collection is around 50ish books now all from thrift stores and secondhand bookshops. Anyone else keen on the Nancy Drew Files over the classics (originals)?

Ashlee (ashlee_) | 43 comments I prefer the originals. I can't lie, I have read a few of the other spin-offs such as the Nancy Drew Files and I got my daughter two of the "Nancy Drew & the Clue Crew" books. I love them all, but the originals are the best in my opinion. As a kid my mom and I would go to the only little bookstore in our town and get them but soon after they closed we had to order them off of Ebay. Every time my mom got paid she would order one for me, so I have the first 12 brand new from that. I have about 30 or so others now (not just of the original, but all kinds of ND books) from secondhand book stores. It's kind of fun going book shopping and always having that feeling that I might come home with some new ND books if the thrift store has them. I don't want to buy them all brand new, I kind of like the challenge of searching for them myself.
