Katie :D. Old ones rock!

message 153: by Meredith (new)

Meredith Awesome you're on!

message 154: by Katie (new)

Katie Meh got Without a Trace at the library; I haven't gotten time to start it.

message 155: by Noelle (new)

Noelle (missnoellerenee) | 47 comments It's a great book.

message 156: by Katie (new)

Katie Cool. I also have to start Mystery and the Moss Covered Mansion soon.

message 157: by Noelle (new)

Noelle (missnoellerenee) | 47 comments I have read them all just about but I would suggest The Triple Hoax (Nancy Drew, #57) by Carolyn Keene

message 158: by Katie (new)

Katie Thanks! That's really cool you've read all of them. I've only read up to #17. I own 1-21, 32, 39, and 49. I saw 27 at an antique store, but it was in really bad condition.

Amazon.com has them for a penny. (.01)

Wow, for a penny? That's a great deal! :-D I will probably check if they're in the library. I need to read Message in the Hollow Oak but haven't started on it yet, because I'm reading other books.

iluvcatz, "Without a Trace" is a pretty good book. The ending was a surprise to me. :-) I like "High Risk" (book 4) better, though. It was more interesting. :-D

Meredith Triple Hoax, hmm. Never even heard of it.

Is Without a Trace one of the old ones?

A penny?! Good condition?! Wow.

The Tripe Hoax is the first book made after Grosset and Dunlap stopped Nancy Drew at #56. The Triple Hoax is #57, Simon and Schuster's first book I think.

Without a Trace is the Girl Detective.

message 164: by Meredith (new)

Meredith Okay!!! Thank you for the clarification. And sorry I didn't get on sooner. I didn't realize you posted ;)

message 165: by Katie (new)

Katie It's fine!

Unfortunately I renewed my book and I didn't even get a chance to start it and it was overdue.. :(

message 166: by Meredith (new)

Meredith I do that way too often!!

I've gotten so used to you being "iluvcatz" that it's crazy to think of you as Katie!!!! =)

message 167: by Charmaine (new)

Charmaine (empress_charla) | 335 comments Mod
That happens to me, too, that I borrow a library book and don't get to read it (I borrow a lot of books, that's why)! I have overdue books occasionally *sniff sniff*.

I hope you'll get the chance to read Without a Trace sometime, iluvcatz/Katie! :-) It's a pretty good one. The mystery is simpler than the classic Nancy Drew books, but the ending was a surprise.

Hehe, whichever one is fine-iluvcatz, katie, even catz...I just added Katie so it doesn't batter to me!

message 171: by Katie (new)

message 172: by Charmaine (new)

Charmaine (empress_charla) | 335 comments Mod
Same here, I wish I could be reading more Nancy Drew books, since I'm trying to read the whole series! I've been reading some other books lately, though! I need to start reading the Message in the Hollow Oak.

message 173: by Meredith (new)

Meredith That's a very good one!

message 174: by Katie (new)

Katie I have too many books to read. If you check my bookshelf, I have 7 books I'm reading, but some I don't have copies of (had to return to library).

Same here! I have too much to read now (currently reading 5 books)!

message 176: by Meredith (new)

Meredith I am reading a school book, The Two Towers and... I probably think of another one later! :)

wow, really?? That's so cool! :-) I'm thinking of re-reading the original Nancy Drew series again sometime myself! :) yay for Nancy Drew!

message 181: by Meredith (new)

Meredith YES! Nancy Drew rocks. My little brother used to be an all Hardy Boys fan, but he has started reading my Nancy Drew books. Lately I've been hearing "Merry, this one isn't that bad." Hehehehe! go Nance!

message 182: by Beth (new)

Beth (bethfloreyyahoocom) | 1 comments The original Nancy Drew books began in the late 1920's and had blue covers and dust jackets, and were re-written in the 1960's with dull yellow covers, and probably re-written again (shiny yellow covers. The re-written versions from the 1960's had the language changed to be more modern, and in some instances, the plots were also somewhat changed.

The original mysteries with the blue covers were significantly scarier. In the 1930's, nobody apparently worried about scaring kids too much!

Applewood Booke reissued some of the original books, with the original artwork, in the 1990's. If you can get ahold of them, they are worth it. The language is a little more sophisticated, and vintage. Nancy wore dungarees, and drove a roadster.

message 183: by Meredith (new)

Meredith WOW! Actually, yes, I have read I think at least two of the really old blue ones. Message in the Hollow Oak was one of them and when I got the yellow covered one for Christmas, I was very confused as to why there wasn't the old author on the train!!! It took me awhile to figure it out, but I obviously I did. I also remember that in the old M.H.O. the bad guy tried to burn Nancy! Hahaha, yes they were more violent!

Those old Nancy Drew books sound really cool! I'd love to read the old Message in a Hollow Oak! Sounds exciting. :-P I didn't know that they were more violent, but I did know that the storyline got somewhat changed in the yellow books.

message 186: by Katie (new)

Katie TMITHO was a good one!

iluvcatz (Katie) wrote: "TMITHO was a good one!"

Did you read the one with the yellow cover, or the very old original ones (I think they are colored blue)? I've only read the yellow covered one, but the original version of it sounds cool!

message 188: by Katie (new)

Katie Yellow color ones. I have ones that are not the really old ones, but the ones before the yellow spine flashlight.

The Message in the Hollow Oak wasn't slightly changed, it was a completely different plot line! I was very surprised :)

Yeah, they updated the books

message 191: by Meredith (new)

Meredith Who did it, do you know? Just a publisher or something?

message 192: by Katie (new)

Katie idk, I guess. They just revised.

message 193: by Noelle (new)

Noelle (missnoellerenee) | 47 comments They revised it to take out racial slurs, saying against women and other large topics

message 194: by Tamia (new)

Tamia (karategirl98) I think the old Nancy Drew Books are the best! Although The new Nancy Drew Books are just as good.

message 195: by Meredith (new)

Meredith Yes, I think it was mostly the racial slurs!

message 196: by Briahna (new)

Briahna Lynne (briahnalynnehollingshead) I think that ALL the Nancy Drew books are awesome and fun to read.
Yay no rp!!

message 197: by Kara (new)

Kara (karav) | 3 comments I haven't read the new ones.....I was miffed at first about new ones being written and issued but the original are probably completely un relatable to young girls today. When I read them (in the 70's) I even felt that way to some extent - Trixie was far more relatable to me at age 9 or 10. She didn't wear smart suits and tool around in a sports car! But I love her so.

message 198: by Katie (new)

Katie I've only read the original ones.
