The Hunger Games question

I think her main purpose in the story was to give Katniss the purpose she needed to win. On her own, she would have never WANTED to win the Hunger Games. Prim gave her a reason to come back home alive.

I think too Prim was the reason Katniss became the Mockingjay. At least partially. Peeta was the other and some others. If Prim was never chosen, Katniss wouldn't have volunteered and it would have been just another Hunger Games.

She didn't even go in the hunger games and they pick out people randomly so i don't really get what you're trying to ask.

It could have gone two ways. Since the name of the book is "Hunger Games" we know that the main character would have to be in the actual games. There was two ways she could have gotten there. 1)Katniss's name being pulled. or 2)Someone Katniss really loves and care's about being pulled.

I think if Katniss's name was pulled there wouldn't have been as much drama as her sisters name being pulled and her volunteering to take Prims place. I think the author made a great choice.

I get what do you mean. Prim is a huge influence for Katniss and when she is picked as a tribute, it is undeniable that the event risen the urge for Katniss to protect her, which is why she volunteer after the announcement of Prim's being a tribute.

However, Prim is not a usual side character. She was always there to support Katniss and sometimes gave wise advices to her that Katniss said she had the healing hand of their Mother, level headed as their father and fighting spirits from Katniss. But Katniss also said there was something new about Prim, something entirely hers.

i believe the author chose prim as the first tribute to make us understand why katniss volunteered then eventually became the face of the rebillion. Katniss hated the capitol but never did anything until she was part of the games. After the games and with some pushing from certain characters she eventually goes nuts and becomes a hero and brought down the capitol. The only thing i had a problem with was the author killing prim in the last book?? why the hell have katniss go through hell and back for her sister to just kill off prim???? just why?
