You're correct! It's called Midrash. My understanding is that it's intended to fill in the gaps by imagining likely scenarios.

Gen 35:23 The sons of Leah: Reuben the firstborn of Jacob, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar and Zebulun.
Gen 35:24 The sons of Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin.
Gen 35:25 The sons of Rachel's servant Bilhah: Dan and Naphtali.
Gen 35:26 The sons of Leah's servant Zilpah: Gad and Asher. These were the sons of Jacob, who were born to him in Paddan Aram.

The Red Tent has Naphtali and Issachar as twins.
Right before the "Reading Group Guide", there is a quote from Anita Diamant " . . . seemed odd in light of the fact that the Bible gives them nine children together." The Bible lists the 6 sons and Dinah. That makes a total of 7, not 9.

I also think you should add In the Shadow of the Ark by Anne Provoost to this list. It is a fictional story centered around the Noah's Ark Biblical story. I REALLY enjoyed it a few years ago.
