Kristie | 19137 comments Funny, Peggy! I semi-recently picked up a cross stitch bookmark kit. It is not printed. I wanted to try counting stitches instead of something with the picture printed on it and thought I should start small. I haven't done it yet though.

I also have more projects than I can count. lol

message 1202: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Mine's the same. I thought a printed one might be a little too 'simple' to keep my interest.

You should post it here once you get it done :)

message 1203: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19137 comments I will, but who knows when I'll get to it. I look forward to seeing yours too.

message 1204: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1786 comments I used to cross stitch. Counted cross stitch on linen was a favourite, it has a nicer look than the aida.
I love the Mirabilia (https://www.mirabilia.com/) patterns. They use fancy threads and lots of beads. I have several half finished projects from 20 years ago. :)

I have always wanted to get into embroidery, I have pattern books, but have never managed to get started, I always revert to crochet.

message 1205: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Those patterns look great Dawn!

message 1206: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1786 comments They are beautiful. If you find a place that sells them, they usually carry all the correct supplies too. I have a half finished Winter Queen, and all the patterns for the other seasons too. But never finished any of them.

message 1207: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19137 comments I agree, very pretty. Those are much more detailed than what I purchased. Those would take me forever.

message 1208: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I started my bookmark yesterday. I really enjoy it, it's very relaxing, kind of meditative. I like that just as with crochet, it occupies my mind enough to not think about other things.

It's going to take hours and hours to finish though, so I'm really glad I started off with something small!

message 1209: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19137 comments That's awesome, Peggy! Can't wait to see it.

message 1210: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19137 comments I just realized that no one has posted in this thread for a long time! I've made a bunch of things lately. These are some of my more recent projects.

This is a bookmark that I made trying out diamond painting. It was a quick, fun project. I plan to try another soon and maybe something bigger some day.

This is my Yule log that I made for Christmas dessert. I had never made one before, but was inspired by Janice's challenge this month. It was a lot of work, but looked so pretty and it was yummy. :)

These are a couple of the scarves that I made for Christmas presents this year. I made four. These two were for my daughters.

I wanted a little Christmas decoration for the table in my library, so I crocheted this little tree.

I planned to make my Christmas cards this year, but it didn't work out. This is the watercolor painting I made that I was going to use. I ended up posting it on Facebook instead as a Merry Christmas post to my FB friends and family.

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments Wow, Kristie. You are really using your time in producing good things, and fun to do too. I especially loved the crocheted Christmas tree.

message 1212: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19137 comments Thanks, Sandra. I really enjoy being creative, so I dabble with a lot of different things. :)

message 1213: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments Kristie, your projects are great! I love the Yule Log. It looked so pretty. I'll bet there are just sawdust (crumbs) left.

message 1214: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments I finished this cute fox yesterday

message 1215: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments You've been busy Kristie! And so many different things. They all look great!

Super cute fox Janice!

In the last year I learned that I really enjoy drawing realistic animals with coloured pencils. It takes many many hours but I find it very relaxing (but also stressful, lol, it can be challenging).

I'll see if I can post some pictures.

message 1216: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I made this compilation for instagram so I thought I'd share it here too. I made these based on online tutorials, no way I could do this all by myself.

message 1217: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments Wow, I didn't realise I was in such talented and productive company! I love all the projects posted. In a reference the other thread, I'm half way through a diamond painting project, half way through knitting a scarf, and I plan to try our some water colour paints this very day lol

It was just the two of us for Christmas, so we have plenty left over! The family is coming today, so it may disappear tonight.

message 1219: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19137 comments I love your cute fox, Janice!

Wow! Look at those drawings, Peggy! They are so beautiful. Nice job. I was trying to pick a favorite, but it's so hard to do. I think maybe the goldfish.

I find that I enjoy dabbling in a lot of things, but never really focus on anything enough to get really good at it. I'm ok with that though, because I think it's fun to do a little of everything. Though, I might prefer to finish more projects. lol

Margo, post us a picture when you finish one of your projects. :)

message 1220: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19137 comments I think one of my favorite watercolor paintings I've done was of bubbles. I used metallic paints on black paper. I don't have a pic of it, but I'll try to take one and post it here.

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments Your prints are really good, Peggy. I love the fish and the bee.

Diamond painting is something I never tried, but it is in my wish list. It sounds so relaxing.

nice! Love them.

If any of you sneak in my ravelry account, you saw that there has been barely any changes in my projects this year. 2023 probably has been my least creative year ever. I did not finish a lot of knitting and crochet project. Probably would not have at all if I did not have online meetings and knitting teas. I have not touch my camera since... i have no idea.

One of my goals of 2024 is to set time aside to do more craft and artsy stuff, no matter what life tornano is making me spin.

Your projects are great, Kristie. Your Yule log looks yummy - I have never tried one. I just like to read the directions, I think.
Your scarves are pretty and the little tree is cute. I like your Merry Christmas card pics are well done.

Oh so beautiful! I have looked at the diamond painting projects at the stores but not wanted to try out another craft project of things never getting done.

Oh, Peggy, your pictures are BEAUTIFUL! It does not matter if they are from tutorials, it is your work and time and talented effort that you put into them. I love the little bird the best. They are all so lifelike!

message 1230: by Fiona (new)

Fiona | 1148 comments Kristie, Janice, Peggy - the things you made are all wonderful!

I made some things lately as well - I crocheted a scarf for my sister and some slippers for two of my colleagues - but didn't take any pictures unfortunately.
I'm currently at my parents' place but will be home in two days, then I can finally crochet or knit or paint again and then I can hopefully share something as well.

message 1233: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19137 comments Peggy, who do you use for your online tutorials? I'd be interested to take a look.

message 1234: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I'm a member of Teresa Joy Fine Art. She has some free tutorials on her youtube channel. The little bee is free and a good one to start with as it was only 2 hours or so. The goldfish was the first one I did, also a good one to start with as it has no fur or feathers. That one was by Leontine van Vliet, also free on youtube.

Let us know if you get around to drawing one!

message 1235: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19137 comments Awesome, thanks!

Fiona | 1148 comments Fingers crossed that the picture works...

I made these slippers recently with a little teddy and a cupcake on it :)

message 1237: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19137 comments Cute, Fiona! My daughter just asked me to crochet her a pair of slippers for her. I've never made them before, so it'll be a new experience for me. They're going to be simple though, no cute teddies or cupcakes on mine!

message 1238: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments Beautiful, Fiona! I used to do slippers for my kids when they were babies and toddlers, but I haven't made them in ages. I need grandkids!

message 1239: by Fiona (new)

Fiona | 1148 comments Thanks :)

Kristie, they are really easy to make (if you keep them simple without anything on it). I watched a tutorial on YouTube. It was in German so not sure if you’d understand that or if there’s an equivalent in English but they’re really simple. You can get both done in one day if you have a little time on your hands :)

message 1240: by Fiona (new)

Fiona | 1148 comments The video I watched was “Hausschuhe, Puschen häkeln” by Klara.

“How to crochet slippers fast and easy” by unique stitch designs is the closest tutorial in English I could find. Not a perfect match but looks good and simple to make :)

message 1241: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments Wow Peggy, those drawings are amazing! I remember when you first started drawing when I was doing the urban sketching during lockdown! Or did you drae before, I cant remember now

message 1242: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Very nice Fiona!

@Sarah: yes, you were the one who inspired me to start drawing :D

message 1243: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments That's what i thought. It's a shame I stopped. I havent really done anything since I moved off my first boat. I've tried to get back in to it and done a couple things but there seems to be a bit of a block for me for some reason.

message 1244: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19137 comments Thanks, Fiona. I've found a few videos. I'll probably just choose one to watch and if it looks easy to follow I'll use it.

Jayme | 4519 comments Wow! What a creative group. I'm with Esther. My New Year's Promise is to get back to the crafts that I enjoy, but have ignored.
My niece is having twins in April, so I am starting the year off by knitting baby blankets. I love knitting in the winter.

message 1248: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Thanks Peggy. I'm going to attempt to do it a bit more this year. I got a lot out of it before. I did it pretty often in lockdown and need to recognise that frequency isn't possible now and be ok with that. I can be all or nothing sometimes lol
