I haven't seen it, but now I'm going to find it. I love making hats! I've been knitting some for a charity as well, and it will be neat to add more patterns.

I saw you found it :)

Kristie | 19148 comments I've taken up some new hobbies recently. My crochet is still pretty basic, so not much to share yet.

But, I made this travel mug during a resin pouring class that was super fun.

Kristie | 19148 comments I like to try out all the local places that offer classes. I've found a wide variety of things offered - wood working, glass blowing, resin pouring, cooking, painting... I love trying new things.

Oh that's beautiful! I've been trying some resin pouring too. I made geode coasters based on a youtube video but think my resin was too warm as the layers melted into each other a bit and I didn't get the effect I wanted. They are still usable and there is so much satisfacion in using something you've made yourself ;-)

message 1162: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19148 comments Geode coasters sound pretty and like a fun activity, Margo. Can you post a pic?

I've ordered a diamond painting kit. It's similar to paint-by-number, but it's using rhinestones. I was surprised to find the picture of the owl playing the piano because it's my wallpaper on my computer. I had to have it!

Kristie | 19148 comments That's so cute! I have an owl in a scarf for cross stitch. I also have a diamond art kit, but I can't remember which one I got. It might be an owl too.

I think this owl kind of looks like a pine cone. lol But I thought it was so cute sitting in the snow with a scarf on.

Janice (jamasc) | 59896 comments That owl is so cute! I have a couple unfinished cross stitch projects that I should resurrect.

The picture doesn't do justice to the colours, I used aqua green which comes out as a muddy grey but in real l8fe its q7iet pretty. But yeah, the resin moved too much and the layers moved uinto each other. There should be a defined dark blue outer ring, middle aqua and a clear centre with a bit of bling. What can say? It is my first attempt and they're functional. Next time I won't won't warm the resin so mush.

I get some new metallic alcohol inks and some pouring paints for Christmas which I'm dying to try out. I lovr watching fluid art tutorials on youtube, you can get some awesome effets - in theory, now it's a case of finding time to practice 😉

Margo | 11629 comments Also tried a marbled effect. Same problem - it all moved too much.

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments Margo, they look very good. I understand the frustration when you have something in mind and it doesn't materialize at the end, but I like those, specially considering it is your first try!

message 1169: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59896 comments I really like those coasters Margo. That looks like fun.

message 1170: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11629 comments Thanks guys, you're very encouraging. I think that's the fun of fluid art, you can't be sure what's to happen!

Janice (jamasc) | 59896 comments Here is my first diamond painting project:

You can't see the sparkle. :(

message 1173: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19148 comments We can't see the sparkle, but I get the idea of it with the reflections. It is very pretty, Janice. I love the image. Nice job!

I need to try one of those. I bought one, but haven't done it yet.

message 1174: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59896 comments The next one will be my wallpaper on my laptop & PC. I was so surprised to find a kit for the picture. I was itching to start it today, but I'm feeling really tired.

message 1175: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19148 comments Get some rest. Plenty of time to work on your diamond art later. :) Looking forward to seeing your cute owl when it's done.

I need to take my own advice. I'm exhausted. lol

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments Very neat, Janice. It looks really good. I've never tried diamond art.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I thought of buying a diamond painting kit, but I have so many other unfinished projects that I decided to opt out.

I love your picture though, Janice!

message 1180: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59896 comments I started a new one today. It's an owl playing a piano. I've discovered it's a great activity to do while listening to audiobook.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Awesome work Kristie and Margo!

I'm impressed Janice! I've had one for years and it's still only about 1/3rd done. I think all the sparkle is gone because of the layer of dust now covering it.

message 1183: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19148 comments lol, Peggy! I have many of those projects as well.

message 1184: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19148 comments I've just started watercolors and I'm really enjoying it. I'll have to post a couple of my first efforts soon. Also, my first crochet efforts as well. They are both definitely beginner learning projects.

I am going to another class tomorrow night to do more acrylic pouring. The mug was a lot of fun. This one will be a lamp. It is basically a little color changing LED light inside a tube that we will paint on a wooden stand. I'll post pics when I get it back.

message 1185: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments So inspiring! I haven't done anything creative in ages. All my projects are catching dust.

message 1186: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19148 comments It's so easy to let those projects fall by the wayside. Other things always seem to be more important. That's why I started taking some classes. Then, I'm obligated to go and put some time in. It is on my calendar, not just my to-do list which is never ending.

I hear you. I have learn to set some "me time". Life tends to get so much in the way that you forget to take the time to live it. Moments of creativity, however short, should count as important. We usually forget it.

message 1188: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I'll probably pick some up again now spring starts. I feel work is taking up most of my time and to take up creative stuff in the evening is just too much of an effort. I still manage to read and go for walks, which is also me-time, but I so wish I had more time (and energy).

message 1189: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19148 comments I completely understand that, Peggy.

message 1190: by Peggy (last edited Mar 23, 2022 06:40AM) (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Inspired by all of you (and a quiter week at work and spring) I picked up my drawing things again after 8 months.

I came across SkillShare. It's a platform where you can participate in all kinds of creative classes. I did a class on drawing a piece of cake with alcohol markers. I was using them before but in a very simple way. I really enjoyed the class, and even though I didn't have all the right materials and had to improvise a bit, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. I'm definitely going to try more, also for my watercolour pencils.

message 1198: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Anyone here doing cross stitching or other embroidery?

I ordered a kit to add to my 35633879 other hobbies. But, wisely, instead of mega projects I came across, I'm wisely going to start with making 2 bookmarks. I hope it will arrive tomorrow, but it might be Saturday or next week.

message 1199: by Rusalka, Moderator (last edited May 26, 2022 01:18AM) (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments My mum is a big embroider, so I learnt a lot as a kid (she runs one of the big guilds here in town). What sort of work are you looking at doing?

I know a lot of people enjoy cross stitch, but never really have done that (the only craft Mum does not do so never an encouraged option). If you like colouring or those beadworks some people have been doing, it could be a really good fit. I used to do long stitch mainly, but learnt a lot of the decorative embroidery stitches.

And very smart! And you'll achieve something really quickly!

message 1200: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Lol, no idea what I want to do. I just figured I start with something that seemed easy and this came up mostly when I googled. Beads sound interesting though, I'll have to look into that. I'm sure there's a whole embroidery world I'm unfamiliar with and countless things you can do with it I never even heard of.
