Janice (jamasc) | 59890 comments I really like ink and watercolour mediums together. When I took my watercolour course, I did one of a Hopi Indian vase and really enjoyed it. If I was to continue, I would have done much more. I think I even started buying some supplies for it.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Peggy - the rattle is so cute!

I was reading a knitting book last night, thinking that I should break out some of my half finished projects. Unfortunately, the slippers that I started for my granddaughter, Danyell will never fit her now. I think I started them when she was seven. She graduated from high school this year. One of them is completed and the other is about two thirds done. Socks always go this way for me too. I get bored and want to start something else. I think my last sock project was a pair of crocheted ones and I kept taking them apart. I tried to do both at the same time.

I knit both socks at the same time as well. Not on the same needle. I am not even trying it. I am too easily distracted. I would make a mess. :)
I always have more than one project going. I alternate depending on my mood or the situation. Socks are portable projects to knit away from home.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I picked up sketching during the Christmas holidays. I still have a lot to learn, but there's improvement ;-) Before I started I was just about able to draw a house, sun and flower in 2D, so I'm pretty impressed with myself with what I made so far. I never thought I could do even this.

I invested in some books to get theory and practice in pen & ink sketching.

Here's a link to my instagram. It has only 8 sketches so far, in chronological order from about 10 days ago until now.

Abby | 270 comments Those are really good, Peggy! I sketch a little too but they’re pretty bad lol. I prefer adult coloring books since I have a good eye for color.

message 1111: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Thanks Sandra and Abby!

@Abby: I have thise coloring books too, but it always stresses me out because I don't know which colors to use and I'm never happy with the result. I have some coloring by numbet adult coloring books now, which take away that problem, but is also less challenging.

message 1112: by Abby (new)

Abby | 270 comments I have a color by number app on my iPod but often find myself annoyed when a really pretty color isn’t used as much as I would want. :) One of my favorite pictures I colored has flowers and leaves on it. I colored the leaves in shades of blue like water and colored the flowers red, orange, and yellow like fire. My absolute favorite is a lion. The mane takes up the whole page and it says “Creativity takes courage”. I made the mane look like flames.

I think there are so many knitters that register nowadays that they raised the bar for the qualifying round.

They took forever and were not conference call friendly.

Amanda | 1789 comments I finished up this hat for my son today. It's my first time working cables, and it went pretty well! Cables are not as hard as I thought they'd be.

Is that what you did? I like it. Every time I tried to make a hat shaped like that for my grandson, my daughter told me it always looked like a toilet roll cover.

Yes, in the round. I love knitting hats and when I want to learn something new I try to find a child-sized hat pattern with whatever I want to learn so I can do something familiar while learning something new.

Knitting hats is so much fun. Have you seen the "year of hat" collection? I plan to work my way through it and give the 12 to charity at the end of the year. January is done. 11 to go.

message 1148: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Esther - I think I was decreasing too late and the hat(s) were too square. It was a long time ago. I finally found a good pattern to make and was lots more successful and have made many since then. I love to knit in the round but don’t like cables particularly. I like to play at them sometimes though.

So - you were modeling your own socks then?
That’s great!

I have not knitted in a long time. I was crocheting wash towels/dish clothes for a while. I made a bunch for AmyK. They were fun.

My mum can't keep her hands still. She quilts, she's a tailor/dressmaker, she embroiders, lacemakes, smocks, beads, is a texitle artist, dyes, felts, etc. And when she watches tv in winter she has to knit or crotchet otherwise she gets twitchy (she does jigsaw puzzles in summer as it's too hot for wool).

She donates bags and bags of hats and scarves every year as none of us can deal with the amount she makes. She has two grandsons under 6 at the moment who are at least growing fast out of things at the moment, but still. I think most of Canberra is wearing a creation of hers from the amount she makes. So 12 seems rather reasonable.
