Thank you! It's all wood, Margo. It's painted and stenciled.

Kristie | 19148 comments Thanks, ladies. It was fun.

I've been enjoying creating things lately. I made a blown glass ornament last week in a class. It was really cool. My friends and I enjoyed it. We each got to put a chunk of 'glass' on a pipe into the fire and roll it in the colored bits, then we blew into the pipe and the teacher cut it off the end for us. It had to cool in an oven slowly overnight so it didn't crack. I will get to see the final product tomorrow. I'm excited to see it.

I've also started taking a pottery class. I've made a few things, but none of them from beginning to end just yet. I should have my first piece that I made from scratch done in a couple of weeks. It takes a long time because there are so many waiting times between all the steps.

Cool!
Blowing glass is something I would like to try.

On my end I am knitting like crazy. I always said I was a selfish knitter but lately I am failing on that score and agreed to a few not so subtle Xmas requests.

Janice (jamasc) | 59896 comments I'd love to try blowing glass too. There was a contest series on Netflix like American Idol but it was for glass blowers. It was amazing what the artists could make.

I love pottery. When my son was little, I took a pottery class for a weekly break. The teacher was amazing and we all became quite enthusiastic about it. We even had a raku firing out at my place. My piece exploded in the raku kiln. I called it my "booby cup" because it had boobs and a clitoris.

The teacher enrolled at a nearby college for a pottery class and we all followed suit. I never even got to start because we ended up moving here. I did find a class here a few years later, but it wasn't the same feeling. It was something about the synergy of the instructor and students that made it fun.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Your stand is beautiful, Kristie. Are those drawer knobs on the bottom as the feet?

message 963: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments As I mentioned in the Watcha Doin thread, I bought this miniature building set of a little coffee house: https://www.robotimeonline.com/produc...

So far I painted the walls, and started on the counter, bar stools, and made some of the little accessories. I know it's nowhere near perfect, but it's so much fun! A lot of work though, even for something like the stool you have all those tiny parts that you have to cut and bend and glue together, and you have to cut out paper that looks like wood to paste on the plain wooden parts so that it looks nice. It has already taken me several hours just to complete these bits. I put a lip balm next to it for size.

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments Wow, it is super small. Small than I thought. Beautiful too. Way to go, Peggy!

Sorry! I missed this, Cherie. They are just little wooden pieces with feet stickies on the bottom.

Wow, Peggy! That is really impressive. It's so cute! It looks like it would be a lot of work and difficult because it is so tiny and detailed.

message 972: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Thanks all! Yes, the size is what makes it challenging. The instructions are pretty clear, with pictures. It's made in China and I think it has been translated with Google Translate or something, so the written instructions are a bit funny sometimes.

It said on the website it's 20 hours of work, but only these parts took me at least 5 hours already.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Peggy - I finally had a chance to look at your picture of the little kit you are putting together. I had no idea they were so tiny! Cute though.

Kristie | 19148 comments I made a chunky blanket! It's my first try, but I think it came out pretty good. It's super soft.

I think I'll make another and try to make the chains smaller so it's a tighter knit. I have plenty of yarn left over.

Hard to think about doing right now though. It was 101 here in Oregon today.

Margo | 11629 comments Ooh, I love the colours! Well done Kristie

message 985: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19148 comments Thanks! Yes, I chose the wrong time of year to make it. It was around 100 degrees here yesterday too. I bought the yarn forever ago and got tired of seeing it just sitting there in my closet.

I made a few things between my last two posts, but always forget to post here. I made a lazy susan that looks similar to the little pedestal thing I posted, a leash holder, and some pottery stuff. I'll try to remember to post some of it.

message 986: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments At least you're all ready for winter Kristie. It will be here in no time. I bought some fabric to make some new curtains for the boat. I need to get them done before winter as I bought some thermal lining for them.

Knitting is easier than it looks. And a chunky blanket is a good 1st projet. Go for it!!!

Says the girl that has not knit more than a few hours in the last month. My yearly sock knitting competition burned me out I think.

message 988: by Amanda (new)

Amanda | 1789 comments Looks nice, Kristie! I just cast on a shawl for my sister in law. I haven't knit in at least a year, but it's like riding a bike.

Your chunky blanket looks amazing Kristie! I love the colours.

message 990: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19148 comments Thanks, Anna!

Amanda, I don't actually know how to knit. I've never done it before. This one didn't use any needles. It was just done with my hands.

message 991: by Kristie, Moderator (last edited Aug 06, 2020 07:55AM) (new)

Kristie | 19148 comments Here's a few of the other things that I made right around the time quarantine hit. I was taking a pottery class and went to a glass blowing class with some friends. I have a bunch of pottery items tucked away now, bowls, mugs, cruets, etc. These just happen to be a couple that I had pics of. I really enjoy making things, but never know what to do with them. lol

message 992: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Wow Kristie, they are fantastic. I don't think anything I'd make in my first pottery class would look like that. You are picking up some skills!

message 993: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments Love all of them, Kristie!
Pottery is something I would like to try some day too.

same here. Too many things to try, not enough time...

I am going to spend my weekend upcycling/saving/creating outdoor furniture. Trying to reuse what I have.

message 995: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments Ohhh, that is another thing I want to try. I actually have a rocking chair my father helped me to fix, and now I will paint.

message 996: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19148 comments Thanks. Pottery was a lot of fun, but it was somewhat expensive for classes and time consuming to make progress. I ended up with a lot of small items that I need to store, but won't use often if at all. The studio has been closed for months now due to COVID, so I don't know if I'll go back or not when they do finally open. I guess I'll just see how I feel about it when the time comes.

Thanks! I actually rolled the clear glass into little colored glass pellets. Then, you reheat it together and roll it smooth before blowing it out into a glass. I made my glass a little bigger than average. lol Not saying I want extra wine or anything, but the option is there. ;)

Janice (jamasc) | 59896 comments Glass blowing is so interesting. You did a great job, Kristie. Your pottery is great too!

message 1000: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19148 comments Thanks, Janice. They were fun to make. I just got an email from my pottery place that they are getting ready to open again in September. I'm not sure I'll be joining just yet.
