Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Thanks everyone, also for the border suggestions!

Dawn, it's single crochet and chain stitch. You do a sc followed by a chain stitch and so on, where the sc goes in the chain stitch of the previous row. If that makes sense.

Haha, your comment about your blanket made me laugh :D

message 752: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1786 comments Yes, that makes complete sense and also explains why I couldn't see it in the picture but I should have guessed based on how the stitches were in the middle of the previous rows stitches.

I think my grandson, Ryan was 3 when I finished his blanket too (it was a diagonal knit in green and yellow and white). When he was 6, wanted me to make him a Minecraft "Creeper" quilt for his birthday. He was 7 in May. Hey - I have the material and the ironing board is cleaned off so that I can cut out all of the green squares and the face pieces for the character. I am hoping he won't change his mind before he turns 8. The last quilt I tried to make is still stuffed in the scrap cupboard. I tried to make it too fancy and failed the math calculations needed for cutting out the pieces and sewing them together. The square pieces worked out, mostly, but I cut the strips wrong and nothing lined up after I had started sewing things together. I am trying to keep this one more simple. I may just do the green squares and applique the face pieces needed on top. I break out in a cold sweat every time I think about cutting the squares smaller and making a square the same size as the background pieces will be.

Tejas Janet (tejasjanet) | 3513 comments I'm so in awe of you guys that can make quilts and blankets! Peggy, I think that blue or white for the border would look great, but think any of the colors already in the blanket would work nicely as well.

Making these simple costumes was a challenge for me. I was afraid that I'd have to hire someone to sew them up at one point, hee hee. Not really, but the thought crossed my mind a time or two when I was sweating it. I can't say I enjoyed this craft project while i was doing it. Just that I was relieved to get it satisfactorily accomplished and done on time!!

Something I do enjoy doing is cutting and pasting from old greeting/holiday cards to create "new" cards. Does anyone else do this? It's fun and quite satisfying to recycle in this way.

I am making a cable knit looking crocheted blanket in organic pale green wool. It's very nice but who knows when I'll finish it.

I've never attempted quilting, somehow it hasn't appealed to me yet. But I do love handmade quilts, they are so gorgeous.

We used to cut up last years Christmas cards to make gift tags for the next year, I don't think we ever made new cards though.

message 757: by Tejas Janet (new)

Tejas Janet (tejasjanet) | 3513 comments I've done that before, too, Dawn : )

message 758: by Tejas Janet (new)

Tejas Janet (tejasjanet) | 3513 comments I enjoy scavenging from old cards to make new ones. It's fun! I do use brand new, good quality card stock to make my "new" cards. But compared to buying a bunch of brand new, handmade cards tho, it's a bargain. I'm a letter writer and card sender tho. People still really appreciate this, it seems.

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Peggy, the baby blanket is so pretty. Since we seem to be voting, I like the teal blue or the dark green as a border color :)

TJ, I bet the three kittle pigs were the cutest trick or treaters of all the kids.

Sarah | 18550 comments Love the blanket Peggy. And those Halloween costumes (and the little people wearing them) are adorable TJ.

message 773: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments That's amazing Janice. It will look even better once you've quilted and binded it. I bet you're pleased with it! I love the different materials you use as it almost looks textured. I really need to get on and do my one which I start nearly 3 years ago.

message 774: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments Thanks everyone. I'm planning on going on another quilt retreat the end of May and I will quilt and bind it there. That should take a day, and then I can start something new.

Awww that's nice to know Janice, I've been very busy. I've just finished a Dinocsaur course that I was studying for 12 weeks and got my award. 100% I was so surprised. And I've just started 2 blankets for myself as I've made projects for other people so a few for me now hehe.

message 776: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sarahlou29) | 1302 comments That's pretty Janice, I quite like the idea of quilting. May try my hand at that at some point.

You'd probably enjoy it.

I always joked about my 4 year attention span. It seemed that I would be passionate about one thing or another, but would get bored after about 4 years and move on to something else. But I've been quilting for almost 20 years now. It's just the last couple of years that I seem to have to force myself to sew. I get all excited about a new project, spend lots of time calculating and planning and acquiring fabric. As soon as I go to sew, I fizzle out.

This is the next project I'm keen on:

I have the pattern... I have so many unfinished quilting projects that I wonder if I should start another. I also have intricate cross-stitch projects that are unfinished. *sigh*

message 778: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Don't feel bad Janice. I am the same way about projects. It is the planning and the buying that always gets me too. The doing is another thing entirely.

I still haven't started Ryan's birthday quilt. His birthday is in April. I think he may get it as a Welcome Home present after he gets back from Canada this summer. Hopefully, I will have time to sew after I get back from my road trip.

message 779: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments @Sarah - you've completed so many beautiful pieces! It sounds like it is time to make some things for yourself. And congrats on your award :)

@Janice - I love your quilt pattern, and the colors really set each other off nicely. Now for the real dilemma - you'll have to let us know if you go for the new project, or complete some ufo's.

message 780: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments Oh, I'll most likely go for the new project. I have A.D.D. when it comes to quilting.

message 793: by Deborah (new)

Deborah Pickstone | 529 comments some of you have asked what I make and I can't post current stuff due to a mismatch between my old phone and the lappie - may have new phone shortly and hopefully problem resolved. However, please have a look on http://www.freewebs.com/dreamsincolour/ for some of my older stuff.

message 794: by Deborah (new)

Deborah Pickstone | 529 comments love the blanket, Peggy! Janice - reading about your unfinished projects - can you not plan a project that works to your attention span? Like art journaling or such.....though you sound as much like a magpie learner as me, with endless new things to try! I usually have a dozen or more projects on the go and suddenly a splurge sees several of them all finished at once. Of course.....there are very many I abandon! Or make a complete hash of....... : S

message 795: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments You're so creative Deborah, amazing! Do you keep everything you make or also sell it?

message 796: by Deborah (last edited Apr 05, 2017 03:08AM) (new)

Deborah Pickstone | 529 comments keep some, give many away - occasionally I sell a bit. Thank you for looking!

I'm thinking of setting up an Etsy store for minor textiles, jewellery and suchlike.

message 798: by Deborah (last edited Apr 05, 2017 03:48AM) (new)

Deborah Pickstone | 529 comments thank you....how very kind! : )

I have moved on in textiles, taken up needle and wet felting, jewellery, doll's house and miniatures, sundry things that grab my eye and Lord knows what-all! I am looking at art dolls at the moment. I love Pinterest, I get so many good ideas! am thinking of a Major Arcana series also but not yet sure what medium.

message 799: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I love your work, Deborah! You should definitely set up an Etsy store. I reckon it would be really successful :)
