I saw someone with your GR username but i was not sure. if that's you, you did join in in 2012. :)

message 508: by Susan (new)

Susan CFDeeDee, I suggest if you want to make the baby things, start now. I've got 2 baby cardigans started, both of them too small for my now 4 months old and 7 months old grandsons! Perhaps there will be some more babies in a few years.

message 509: by CFDeeDee (new)

CFDeeDee @Esther I use the same nickname for everywhere. Will, except Instagram, someone took my nickname ! I should get on it more often so I get used to the site.

@Susan B One good thing about wearable thing is that you can always save it for the next baby. Thanks for the advice though, I'll start working on a whole baby set.

LOL, Susan! I don't know how many sweaters and things I started knitting that were too small by the time I got done with them. I will not tell you how many patterns and yarn I bought for projects for my granddaughters that I never got around to making either. I have at least three sweaters in an old trunk that only lack sewing together (My granddaughters are 24 and 23 now).

Maybe you should start on a size 2 or 3 and then they might fit by the time you are done, or you can save them for when they grow into them. I always loved making "little people" things. I still like looking at the patterns but the last couple of things I tried to make for my grandson (now 6) never worked out. I swear there was an error in the pattern of a sweaters - a crocheted pull over hoodie, and another little cardigan. I tried three or four times and they never came out right. The way the hoodie was made and attached either was 10 times too big, or the neck opening was two small. The cardigan pieces never fit together when I tried to sew them up, no matter how many times I tried to re-do them. It was the first time I ever threw something in the trash, I was so frustrated.

message 512: by Susan (new)

Susan Well Cherie I think I'll aim for 3 years old. Give myself plenty of time. I hate sewing up. I must have several things tucked away for myself that I never got around to sewing together!

message 513: by CFDeeDee (new)

CFDeeDee I hate it when there are mistakes in the pattern, but you can fix 'em !
Try adding and decreasing stitches .. Always worked with me ..

Isn't it weird? It is one of the reasons I would rather do socks and hats, and afgans - almost no sewing up. I modify most patterns to allow for knitting sleeves in the round and do the front and sides in the round, if possible. That said - there is always something that comes up and I never finish. I am always looking for my needles and they are always stuck in something half done. What I really hate is sewing all of the ends in, especially when there are a lot of color changes. I think I got it from my mother. She was always modifying patterns. I do not ever remember her finishing anything she made for herself. A couple of years ago, I made about 15 scarves and gave them all away. I bought the yarn from a small shop that was going out of business and I loved the feel of the yarn so much! I made a pair of boot socks for an elderly friend of mine out of an alpaca and wool blend that was felted after they were knit. It cost me a fortune but it was worth it. She loved them. I knitted a small rug for a doll house out of a beautiful piece of white angora on size 1 needles once, just for an excuse to buy the tiny skein of yarn. There used to be a wonderful yarn shop in Portland that I used to go to. I was crushed when it went out of business, but I sure saved a lot of money not buying yarn. There have been small shops come and go in the area where I live, but most do not seem to stay in business long.

Sarah (sarahlou29) | 1302 comments I made 2 scarves with a colour changing yarn. But I haven't taken the picture of the other scarf yet. But here's my very first attempt at Broomstick Lace Stitch.

Sarah (sarahlou29) | 1302 comments And my new creation from the crochet book of wild animals I got for Christma. Camilla the Camel. She hasn't got her eyelashes yet cuz I can't do it free-hand, I have to use a special air erasable pen and then I can stitch on her eyes.

Sarah (sarahlou29) | 1302 comments Hehe thanks Lisa. I'm going to do an elephant next.

The scarf colours are very pretty, it doesn't do much justice on the photo. But is is lovely, I brought the yarn for the scarf especially as the colour changes on each row =]

Deborah Pickstone | 529 comments I have made 3 new textile hangings while I have been on holiday - they just need putting together now :)

I also recovered a stool/workbox and designed a whole load of stuff for future work. *feels mildly productive at last*

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments Sarah, your camel is so cute. However, my hubby just woke up, came around the computer cabinet and was wondering why I was looking at porn! All he saw was flesh tones! LMAO!

Everyone's projects are wonderful. Quite a creative bunch here.

I've been knitting a lot and have completed a beautiful shawl with some lace-work that can be worn 5 different ways with buttons attached (which I still have to do). I plan on wearing it as a long-sleeve shrug. And I finished knitting a 2nd one for my sister-in-law! I've got more projects in the wing, like knitted cats, scarf for my sister, etc.

Sarah (sarahlou29) | 1302 comments Aww Esther it didn't work. If anyone is on Ravelry I'd love to see what you've made. My Ravelry.

I completed another unicorn yesterday for my bf's niece and she loved it. She did a great impression of Agnes from Despicable Me. I changed the colour as requested and enlarged it by using 2 pieces of yarn instead of 1. I included a comparison photo of the original unicorn to show you the difference.

Now I'm just waiting for my grey yarn to arive so I can begin the elephant.

Thank you. Ooh you made the broomstick lace infinity scarf too =D It is so beautiful =D I accepted your friend request. The Cardiff cowl I would like to make myself. And the diamond one is lovely.

message 538: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments So cute!

Janice, I'll figure out some way to photograph the shawl so you can see the full effect and then a close-up of lace work. I still have to put the buttons on so it can be worn different ways. Same with my sister-in-law's shawl... need to buy some buttons for hers.

Now I'm knitting a cool multi-directional scarf for my sister. It's really cool!

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments Did anyone notice my comments about how my hubby reacted to seeing Sarah's camel out of the corner of his eye, without his glasses, while he still was half asleep? I'm still chuckling over it. No offense to Sarah of course! Her critters are so cute! I want to make a unicorn, now!

message 540: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments I did, Debra. So funny! He must have been so confused.

message 541: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sarahlou29) | 1302 comments Ooh I really want to see that scarf Debra =]

If you're on Ravelry, the unicorn is on there. http://www.ravelry.com/projects/Sarah...

I found in through YouTube, so it is in video format. But I wrote the pattern down if it would make it easier?

message 542: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments Yes, I caught your hubby's reaction as well. Funny!

message 543: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments Thanks, Sarah! I'll check the pattern out. I'll need to write it down, too.

Glad you got a kick out of my hubby's nearsightedness, Sarah and Janice. Tickled me!

message 545: by CFDeeDee (new)

CFDeeDee Thats great Sarah, thanks for sharing

message 546: by Susan (new)

Susan Such great things on here, ladies. How cute are those unicorns? Deramores are giving away some free dinosaur knitting patterns this month on their website, all you have to do to get them is register for their newsletter. They're cute patterns, I'm going to make them for my grandsons.

message 547: by CFDeeDee (new)

CFDeeDee Finally, I'm on Ravelry .. But how can I download crochet patterns ?

message 548: by Susan (new)

Susan CFDeeDee, it's easy to download. Select the patterns tab at the top of the screen. From the main patterns page you can select free patterns, then refine your search by checking crochet on the left hand side of the screen. There are plenty more options for refining the search. When you see the thumbnail of a pattern you like, click on it. This will take you to the main page for the pattern, and here it will say something like available as a free Ravelry download. Click on this link, add to your library, and it's done.

message 549: by CFDeeDee (new)

CFDeeDee Thank you so much, Susan. I've been struggling with it last night, I'll check it out again later on

message 550: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sarahlou29) | 1302 comments Oh yes, I saw that Susan, maybe I'll have to learn to knit at some point too. I've heard (although I don't know if it's correct) That if you can crochet you'll be able to knit quite easily, but apparently someone who can knit may find it harder to crochet. Is this true for anyone?
