Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) As round 3 comes to an end please take some time to give some feedback what did you like, what did you not like.

Did you like the new twist only 1 item from each category? Would you rather next round go back being able to claim any combination of items?

Please feel free to make suggestions for items for next round.

See extra question in post 25.

PepperP0t | 2106 comments i liked the different categories, it made it more fun i think.

of course i would like to have a way to get all of the items (since there is always a chance that a claimed item will be called later)

message 3: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) I liked the different categories as well although I think towards the end the last week or 2 it should change that way if your team has read all of their books on time every week you're not stuck with a category or two missing items.

message 4: by Dawn (Kat N Hat) (last edited Oct 25, 2012 02:27PM) (new)

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) Good point Jenne, what if once you claim all 8 of a group, then you could claim 2 from another group.

For example I know several people this round have claimed all thier people but are missing 3-4 things. So this week they could claim 1 place, 1 color & 2 things. Still only 4 items, just a way to make up for duplicate items.

Alana ~ The Book Pimp (loonyalana) I like the different categories, too. It takes it to the next challenge level. I really have fun with this challenge!

message 6: by PepperP0t (new)

PepperP0t | 2106 comments the ability to pick up the missing items would be good

message 7: by Lina (new)

Lina I've loved the way you've worked it this round, Dawn. You've done a great job with this game, and I look forward to being back for next round :-) I love the mix of items, the place ones were a bit of a challenge for me and made me pay a lot mroe attention to the descriptions in the book, rather than just following the plot.

I liked Jenne's idea about the last week or two!

My only comment would be about the spreadsheet. Is there a way that it could be made easier to see at-a-glance? (Mind you, that only affects the people in the bottom teams)

Alana ~ The Book Pimp (loonyalana) Like maybe, once a week you can read a second book for only one item? Maybe a hard-to-find one? Just a thought

message 9: by PepperP0t (new)

PepperP0t | 2106 comments Alana's idea is a good one, I think but I'd go with one item of one category.

Yes that's exactly what I'm getting at! Like me after this weeks wing book I'm all the way done with people and colors but still have a couple of things and places left :-/

message 11: by Katherine (new)

Katherine (katdylan) I'm loving this round of the challenge and you're doing a great job Dawn. I really liked the separated categories. It made us work harder for the books.

I'd like the idea of helping a team friend. Next week I only need 2 items, but some of my team mates need more, so I could read my last 2 items and 2 of theirs. Instead of them reading another book, on the last week.

Also, I think it would be cool if the categories didn't follow a pattern. Instead of places, things and etc, the items on each category could be anything. Like category 1: heart, sky, blood, blue... etc. And so on. :)

message 12: by Katherine (last edited Oct 25, 2012 05:27PM) (new)

Katherine (katdylan) And what about a thread where all teams posts only their books read and items found? And we could use the usual threads to talk with our group.

Can't wait for Round 4!!!! :D

I am trying to think of logistics, what if once or twice in the game (after week 4) there was a possiblility of getting 5 items instead of 4. I think once a week might make the game too short.

message 14: by Rosina (new)

Rosina | 1 comments I agree with the comment about the separate thread. Just easier to find instead of sifting through.

Also like the idea of book being read within the week.

How about in addition to looking for items. Each week was a different genre or shelf like in SOS Bingo.

I could see the help a friend possibilities, but I think help a friend and get an extra item would make it too easy. I'd have to go with one or the other.

I might do something other than person, place & thing. It might make it easier to come up with new items. Thanks for the idea.

message 17: by Lina (new)

Lina I liked the categories, but loving the idea of the help-a-friend thing once we're done.

While it would make it easier on me to tally points, it might be harder for teams to keep up with each other. Keeping track with in the team would be hard for the captain unless each person posted in both threads.

What about an surprise item then? In the same week we get to claim a fifth item, a surprise item (not listed) gets called.

How about the team members post in the team thread, like we have now, and captains post team progress in a progress thread like the Items Claimed thread for the Rapid Readers game. It makes it easy for you to keep track and It makes it easy for everyone to compare their progress, while still allowing captains to easily track their own team and generate discussion on the team thread.... not sure if I've explained it well...

Katherine (katdylan) Dawn (Kat N Hat) wrote: "While it would make it easier on me to tally points, it might be harder for teams to keep up with each other. Keeping track with in the team would be hard for the captain unless each person posted in both threads"

Since I can speak only for myself, I wouldn't mind posting in both threads. It'll be the same post. Only some copy & paste and it's done. It could be agreed before hand if each person would like to post in both, or the captain would like to do that. Just an idea.

I like to keep track of how the other teams are doing, but going thread to thread is a bit hard, each team has a way to score their points. Also, we are all women here (I think), we like to talk. Lol.

Angie ~aka Reading Machine~ (wolffaerie17) | 1469 comments I've really enjoyed this round quite a bit. I love all of the different categories too! I think helping a team mate who needs items is a really great idea!

message 23: by Dawn (Kat N Hat) (new)

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) As the game grows and we get more team it would probably make more sense to have a "claim points thread".

Let's see if we can work out kinks.
Logisticly it would work if the team captain posted when all players have thier weekly item. The draw back would be extra points wouldn't be awarded until the whole team has the weekly items.

But extra points arn't really necessary until the end of the game, and it might help people try to read faster.

I think I might do that next round. Thanks Dyllan & CaroB.

message 24: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Captains could always claim points like we do in bingo. I'm thinking next round of WWGRF to do it that way. I imagine it makes it easier for the person tallying points.

message 25: by Dawn (Kat N Hat) (new)

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) Ok, after thinking on the phone a friend option, it might be ok. It would make the last few weeks a bit more of a scramble.

How about if after you have done all 8 of one catergory, then you can claim an item from that catergory for a team mate. If you have two catergories done you can pass on items from both those catergories to one ore two teammates.

Or should it be more general? If you can only claim 3 items, then you can claim one (from any catergory) for another.

Should it be out of your same book, or should you have to read a different book for each player you help?

Should you be able to do it once you have all 8 of a catergory, or only after you have all the items can you help a teammate?

message 26: by Lina (last edited Oct 26, 2012 06:33AM) (new)

Lina I think after you have all of your one-category... otherwise you'd be stuck or have to double-up for that week.. I'm thinking as a reader who might be able to help someone else, I'd rather one of my items goes towards helping the team than just get wasted...

An interesting point about having to read different books for each player... might make it a bit hard, as most people are in a few games/ challenges and trying to read smarter rather than harder/quicker. Would it make it simpler to just say you can only claim 4 items per book (eg in this round) and it's up to you who you help those items with, as long as you're claiming for categories you have already completed?

message 27: by Dawn (Kat N Hat) (new)

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) What do you all think aboutt limiting the catergories? Like in this round place and thing got called more often and person never was.

What if after so meny items from a category that one is blocked? Or if we rotate week one is a person, week two is a place, week three is a thing etc.

It is fine the way it is, but it might help stop those people who keep getting duplicate items from building up in the same catergory.

message 28: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Back to the having a thread where you can see all of the teams progress. If you think this is a good idea Dawn I'd be willing to keep up with it. I could set up a thread and have one post for each team list it with each item and each players name and strike through as completed. Kind of like what I have on page 1 for Team 4 right now.

message 29: by Dawn (Kat N Hat) (new)

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) Jenne, I may take you up on that. If we get any bigger I definately need an assistant. I started a thread like that I just didn't keep up with it.

message 30: by Ezi (new)

Ezi Chinny (ezinwanyi) | 1882 comments I am going on record to vote NO on helping teammates read their book. The fast readers will always pick up a teammate who isn't reading as fast.
Instead if a teammate goes MIA twice, then that'a automatic replacement of the MIA member.

I like how we are having duplicate things called, it's a crap shoot, and that is the way the dice rolls. I like that. It's frustrating, but it affects everyone the same. so it keeps the game honest and competitive

message 31: by Jenne (new)

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) Jenne wrote: "Do you think you'll do another round soon or wait until the holidays are done with?"

My original intent was to wait until January to start the next round. I have travel plans for Thanksgiving and Christmas so I know it will be hard for me update and track. And I imagine it would be hard for others to read in the same situations too.

But then thinking about it that means almost 2 months with out this. Yikes!

But then I haven't started coming up with items for the next round either.

I think this should be only possible when we have already finished all of our items (toward the end of the challenge), not the whole time, that would make too easy, and wouldn't really be a team challenge, right? Ex, if we were on the same team, and I need only one item left to claim, and you have 6, I could read your last items, so we could boost the team points.

And to one of Dawn's previous questions, about reading the same book, or a second one (to claim our team mates items) since we're on 4 items per book (200 pages minimum), a second book should be called, the lenght depending on how many items that person is claiming for a team mate.
1 item - 50 pages,
2 items - 100 pages
3 items - 150 pages.

I like the way it is right now. It's all about the odds of picking a item and not knowing if it gets called on the next weeks.

Ok, check out the spread sheet and at the bottom there is a second tab called "copy of sheet1" Click on it and look at the top. Is that more of what you were meaning?

message 39: by Lina (new)

Lina Dawn, would that not be a lot of double-entry for you? I was thinking long the lines of something like this: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/c...

There's still a little bit of scrolling needed, but not too much compared to previous spreadsheet.

message 40: by Dawn (Kat N Hat) (new)

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) CaroB wrote: "Dawn, would that not be a lot of double-entry for you? I was thinking long the lines of something like this: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/c......"

It won't let me access your sheet.

Mine won't be double entry. As I enter in the fields below it automaticly updates the top section. It pulls from the hidden fields that tally the points already.

message 41: by Dawn (Kat N Hat) (new)

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) Ok, just sharing thoughts of the moment. This doesn't mean it will be this way for round 4.

While I liked the idea of the 4 groups of items in reality it is biting some teams in the bum. While some people were done with thier list last week, others could take another week to complete thier list. It doesn't seem like a team challenge if the whole team isn't finishing together. I could see a week apart but 3 weeks seems a bit much.

I am leaning toward going back to you can claim any 4 items. Thoughts?

Ok I see it now. I like it. I'll have to mess with it to see if I can make the formulas work in columns instead of rows.

message 43: by Katya (new)

Katya Maybe darker colors on the spread sheet? They are hard to read.

Angie ~aka Reading Machine~ (wolffaerie17) | 1469 comments I think 4 items to claim is plenty. It keeps me stepping to find the items that I need to claim. Claiming more items while nice would make it harder later in the hunt.

The categories were fun & more challenging. I think after you've completed a category then you could claim 2 from another.

I agree with Jenne. Also, the double point in the same category looks really cool.

While it makes hard for the team, Dawn, I think this is what the competition is about. If a group is behind, they have a chance to win. The help-a-friend would come in handy in these situations too.

Like in round 2 we had a thread for item help with books posted with the items in it. It might help for the hard items next round

message 48: by JenniferJ (new)

JenniferJ | 0 comments I liked it just like it is with the 4 categories and only being able to claim 1 from each per week.

On the help a team member I think in order to get to claim an item for somebody else you should be completely thru with that category that way if you were able to claim 3 items for yourself but were done with the 4th category that point would not goto waste.

Great Challenge btw Dawn! Love it!

message 49: by Dawn (Kat N Hat) (new)

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) Since the vocal players seem to like it we will stay with 4 catergories. I have them most the way planned for next round. I need just a few more to make it even.

Do you all think 8 items per catergory was enough or would you like to see less or more? It changes how long the challenge will be. Starting from January 8 items would get us into early March. 9-10 would get us to the end of March or longer.

message 50: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Dawn I think the number Of items was good.
