Ann | 273 comments With Thanksgiving coming up later this month food is definitely on my mind. So in the spirit of good holiday food November’s Reading Challenge is to read a book, fiction or non-fiction, where food plays a major role in the life or lives of the character(s) or in the plot, or even a book solely about food.

I’m thinking I may pick up a food mystery myself, but with this challenge hopefully everyone will be able to find something to feed their reading appetite.

Becky | 280 comments I was surprised to find 6 books on my to-read list that deal with food, so I shouldn't have trouble choosing a book for this challenge. Since it is a busy time of year, I may go with Seedfolks.

Becky | 45 comments may I recommend The School of Essential Ingredients
by Erica Bauermeister. I read it a couple years ago with my book club & really liked it.

I'm reading that one too :)

alisonwonderland (Alison) | 70 comments I really liked both 'The School of Essential Ingredients' and 'The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake.' Enjoy!

Jackie (jackie123) | 263 comments I am going with "James and the Giant Peach".

Jan (libraryhag) | 64 comments If you want a culinary mystery The Diva Runs Out of Thyme (A Domestic Diva Mystery, #1) by Krista Davis by Krista Davis is a fun read with lots of food. It is the first in the series and is set at Thanksgiving. I read it last year around this time for another challenge. I will have to find something different for this year. Maybe I will read the second in the series.

Becky | 45 comments So I'm listening to an audio book with this genre and my husband says to me "how come you only listen to food books" LOL :)

Thanks for the recommendation. I'll have to check it out.

Ann | 273 comments More along the non-fiction line of food related books for this month's challenge; does anyone have a favorite cookbook they'd like to recommend, seeing as Thanksgiving is coming up?

message 12: by Debbie (last edited Nov 13, 2012 07:12PM) (new)

Debbie (dashforcover) | 1219 comments I'm reading "My Father's Daughter by Gwenneth Paltrow. It covers a wide range of tastes and includes some stories of her family life as related to the recipe it's with. I wouldn't say it's a favorite cookbook, but it is very interesting.

message 13: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn (justknitting) | 137 comments I really enjoyed The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. While the pie wasn't the main part of the story it was still a really good read that had to do with food.

message 14: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 112 comments I read The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake. It was unusual. Can't decide what I think of it.

Debbie (dashforcover) | 1219 comments I have finished "My Father's Daughter" by Gwyneth Paltrow. Interesting recipes, interesting side stories. Lots of anchovies. By the way, did you know Paltrow LOVES anchovies? I almost expected her to put them in the brownies.

Ann | 273 comments I just posted the Reading Challenge for December. (I tried to keep it simple with how busy everyone gets around this time of year. This one shouldn’t take much more than five or ten minutes once you’ve got your book— so check it out.)

For those of you still working on November’s Challenge you still have a few days left. Just make sure to let me know what you’ve read for November by the 30th to be part of the drawing.

Becky | 280 comments I read Seedfolks, which is very short, but excellent!

Dawnmcd | 23 comments I did not get to e particular sadness of lemon cake this month but am picking it up from the Library today. Will let you know what I think of it's soon as I finish it!

Hmmmmm. Sounds like I need a taste of this book. I read the description on the library's record, which only adds to the mystery. "
Being able to taste people's emotions in food may at first be horrifying. But young, unassuming Rose Edelstein grows up learning to harness her gift as she becomes aware that there are secrets even her taste buds cannot discern."

Does sound weird. Interesting, but weird.

LOL- that's not even the weird bit. It got much, much stranger.
