Perdido Str Station Discussion : PSS SECTION 1: Chapters 1- 3

The world we see in PSS has a special flavor to me that none of the other books have. A flavor partly Victorian, almost Gothic in places, and you'll see later that it gains a distinct Steampunk flavor as well, and there is something (or two) that I don't wish to spoil that... well--let's wait until Cecily reaches a later stage before we comment on all the weirdnessess that made this book special for me. :)

But the bug-human love affair is a good start! :D

Granted that King rat is also weird, and grimy and a bit Gothic, but not -as- weird; and like Cecily mentions, there is a weird beauty to aspects of New Crubozon that there isn't in any of the other cities that I've seen CM create--though admittedly I have not read Kraken yet.
