I read this book recently for a class in college and thoroughly enjoyed it! It provides a very different way of looking at history and life and death. This book takes place in the 1960's and discusses the summer of a young boy, Jack. He gets grounded for the summer and is only allowed out to help a neighbor. He learns a lot over the summer about people in the town and history of the town. I thought this book was very informational, but also kept my interest throughout the entire book. I think it is very interesting about how the author uses obituaries as the main source of learning about people in the town. I think people who read this will find it to be a good alternate way of learning as well. I think you will really enjoy the book if you have a chance to read it!

I couldn't put this book down it was a great read, and was hilariously entertaining. When reading Dead End in Norvelt by Jack Gantos, young adults will be exposed to many different historical events through the wild imagination of a twelve year old boy Jack, whose growing up in a small Pennsylvania town. This book never got old as I followed along through the book with many Jack's adventures where his imagination always found ways to get him into and out of mischief. I highly recommend this book to other teachers and students and am glad I had the chance to read this book that kept me laughing all the way till the end. I also read this for my class I think we may be in the same class.
