Srividya Vijapure (theinkedmermaid) | 1160 comments Discussion Questions for Chapters 11 - 14

19) What did you think of the WarGames simulation as Wade's quest? Have you ever watched a movie so many times you feel like you can quote it line for line? If so, what movie(s)?

I loved that part! I was totally surprised as I wasn’t really expecting it but it was a fun quest. Loved the imagination of the author. Yes I have watched many movies like that, mostly Hindi ones from Bollywood here in India but some English ones as well. In English, it was the Sound of Music and Sleepless in Seattle. I could quote it word for word at one point in time. However, with time, I guess I have forgotten most of it now.

20) I'm not surprised GSS created Flicksyncs after finding out about the simulation. If you could jump into a movie or TV series and play through it, which would it be?

Interesting concept isn’t it? I would love to be either in Sound of Music or Sleepless in Seattle, if it were the movies.

21) First impressions of Ogden Morrow? What did you think of his interview with the press? Will he be a factor later on in the book?

I really liked Morrow’s character. He seemed to be very interesting and almost as if he was encouraging the gunters in their quest. I think he will play a role in the book later.

22) Now Aech has the first key and gate. Will Wade regret helping Aech with the key? Will their friendship continue to hold up despite their competition?

I think he will regret it. I still don’t trust Aech and doubt that this friendship will stay strong as the book progresses. I wish I could be wrong but it’s a niggling feeling that Aech will betray Wade.

23) Am I the only one who thinks these endorsement deals are a bad idea? Isn't it a bad thing for his avatar's face to be plastered everywhere? On the other hand, it looks like the money he'll earn might save him in the real world.

It is a double edged sword. At one level, his avatar will be prominent and might get him into some trouble but the fact still remains that he needs the money, so I think we should think about the money and deal with the repercussions later.

24) What did you think of Sorrento? Did you find any of his offers tempting? Do you think Aech or Art3mis will sell out?

I did not like Sorrento at all but that is predictable, given that I want Wade to win and the others to lose. Nope, I didn’t find any of his offers tempting. Not sure why but I don’t think Art3mis will sell out but Aech am not so sure.

25) Were you as surprised as I was that IOI had unearthed Wade's identity and location? Did you think Sorrento was bluffing with the explosives?

Yes I was surprised. I thought he was bluffing but I was appalled that he was serious.

26) What will Wade do now? It looks like he'll be hunted in both realities. How will he handle the deaths of those in the stacks?

I think he will go on to hunting for the egg full time. I think he is resourceful and it is not as if he had some stake in those stacks, apart from the fact that he used to live there.

27) Is it possible that Sorrento's already gotten to someone in the "High Five," as Art3mis puts it? Or are the members too smart for that?

I think that it is possible. However, I am hoping that it is not the case.

28) First impressions of Daito and Shoto? Were they what you expected?

I think that they were true to their avatars. I quite liked the formal way in which they interacted with the others. It bodes well as they are Japanese, who are known for their formal way of interaction.

29) What about the disturbance in the corner of the chat room? Did IOI break into it somehow? Or is something else going on?

I think it is someone breaking in or listening into their talk. I suspect the IOI but I am hoping and praying that it is not so.

30) It looks like things are headed to an all-out war between the Sixers and the gunters. Who do you think will reach the Jade Key first?

I think it will be one of the gunters who will reach the Jade Key first. It is a book where the good have to win right?

31) Were you surprised at how easy it was for Wade to create a new identity and set up a new home? Do you like his new place and new gear?

No I was not surprised. Given how resourceful he is and how adept he is at computer hacking and stuff, I wasn’t surprised at all. I quite like his new place and gear.

32) What do you think of Wade's decision to stay inside until he finds the egg? What does it say about him that he avoids interaction with any human being whatsoever?

While I admire his determination and zeal to hunt for the egg, I find it really disturbing that people, especially young people his age would want to closet themselves away from the real world. Given that it is a reality today, even if it is not to this extent, it still makes me feel sad. I can quite understand his need for doing this but I do hope that he comes out of this virtual reality into the real world soon.

33) What did you think of the chat between Art3mis and Wade? Why do you think Art3mis is so reluctant to reveal anything personal about herself?

I loved the chat between Art3mis and Wade. I think that she lacks in self confidence, despite her avatar having it in spades. I guess she just doesn’t think herself to be lovable or even attractive to real people, which is why she doesn’t want to get hurt later and is avoiding revealing anything person.

34) Do you think Wade was too obvious about his feelings for her? Do you think Art3mis is manipulating him in any way? Or does she perhaps not trust him to care about the real her?

I think Wade is pretty obvious about his feelings for her. In the beginning, I felt that she was manipulating him in some way but later the romantic me, decided that it was just the case of not wanting to get hurt rather than anything sinister.

35) What did you think of Ogden's dance party? Surprised the Sixers crashed it? And what about Og's lightning superpower? That was pretty neat.

I loved the whole set up of Ogden’s dance party and yes I was surprised and really irritated when the Sixers crashed it. The Sixers are definitely not my favourite people! Yes the lightning superpower was really neat!

36) Book quote:"I was just another sad, lost, lonely soul, wasting his life on a glorified videogame." What do you think brought about this realization? Will this change anything to have admitted this to himself?

I think it was because he realized that he was alone and having broken off with Art3mis and not interacting with Aech, he felt this way. I hope it means that in the future he will go more into the real world.

37) Now that we are roughly halfway through the book, what is your overall opinion of it? Any thoughts not covered in the DQs?

I am loving the book till now. The pace is exciting and makes me want to rush forward to see how it all ends.

38) What do you think of Wade's stronghold planet Falco? If you bought your own small planet on OASIS and designed it and furnished it yourself, what it would look like (or be modeled after)?

I found the idea quite neat! I honestly don’t have any idea, other than that I will try to emulate a Middle Earth kind of a setting!

39) Do you find the "voyeur channels" - the option for every avatar to have his or her channel - realistic in terms of where our television industry is headed?

I think it is. Given the amount of youtube videos and other ways in which people are reaching out today, voyeur channels are not really unrealistic or too far behind.

40) Do you think Wade has gotten carried away buying expensive weapons, clothes, transportation, and furnishings? Do you think he'd need a full-time job if he didn't buy such things? Or does he need good ships, weapons, etc., for safety?

I don’t think that Wade has purchased anything that he doesn’t need for his quest. Given that the Sixers and Sorrento are all crazy people, he will need all this and more to fight them in this quest.

41) What will the significance be of the quarter from the perfect Pac-Man game? Did you expect something specific or significant to happen after he completed it?

I think it will play a pivotal role in the quest. I am hoping to learn more about it as we read.

42) Do you think Aech will regret helping Wade with the Jade Key? Will they repair their friendship?

I don’t think so. As of now Aech still remains mysterious and therefore elusive to me. I hope their friendship is repaired. I did say that I have my doubts about Aech but he is proving to be a constant, so I am guessing that he has an important role to play in the end.

43) What did you think of the Zork simulation as the challenge for the Jade Key? Having played Zork, I loved the reference, but I think it defeats the purpose of the game to have everything visible around you.

I am afraid that I have no knowledge of Zork as I am not a gaming person but I did like the entire simulation.

44) Were you surprised Sorrento was the first to reach the Second Gate (and shortly afterward, the Crystal Key)? And what about Wade's "plan" to jump off of his apartment building should IOI find the egg first? Wow.

Yes I was surprised! I thought that it would be Art3mis. Oh boy I was really irritated by this pessimistic feeling of Wade. I wanted to tell him to stop thinking about these things and just continue with the quest.

45) How did you react to Daito's death? Did it shock you to find out it was real?

I was really shocked at Daito’s death, especially when I found out it was for real. At first, I felt merely bad, when I thought that it was his avatar but his real death shocked me.

46) What did you make of Shoto's story? I found the idea of hikikomori very sad. What about Shoto's new motive - revenge?

I really felt bad for Shoto. Yes the idea of hikikomori is really sad but it is slowly becoming a reality today with many kids spending more of their time in the virtual gaming world than the real one! I think the revenge motive was to be expected, given that he considered Daito his brother in every sense of that word.

47) How did you like the 3-D Black Tiger simulation? We've talked about favorite games, but if you could jump into any video game or PC game this way and play it, what would it be?

I quite enjoyed the Black tiger simulation. No idea as I am not much of a gaming person.

48) I wonder what the robot is for… Any thoughts or ideas? What do you make of the clue for the Crystal Key? Wade seems to have already figured it out.

I think it is some kind of a weapon that Wade can use later. Am sure it will be a powerful one. No idea on the clue.

Srividya Vijapure (theinkedmermaid) | 1160 comments Discussion Questions for Chapters 27 - 31

49. The clue for the Crytal key says the gate cannot be unlocked alone. What do you think that means?

I think it means that two or more people have to go and unlock it.

50. Are you surprised Wade decided to come up with a plan that involved the other members of the High Five after working solo for so long?

No. I am not surprised. He has always been extremely fond of his friends and therefore it was obvious that he would want them to join him in his quest.

51. Wade was so nervous about going back outside after so long, he was shaking. Do you think he will be able to change after taking IOI down?

I hope he does change.

52. Did you think Wade was crazy for going into IOI?

YES!! I was really amazed at why he would do that but later on learning more about it, I was laughing like a loon – What a crazy idea! Totally loved his genius mind!

53. Did you suspect that IOI was spying on the High Five?

Yes. It was obvious given that they want to win at any cost.

54. So, Art3mis has a birthmark. Do you think that was why she was hesistant to get close to Wade or do you think it was because of the hunt for the Easter egg?

I think it was because of the birthmark. She was self conscious about her looks and it made her want to keep a distance from Wade.

55. IOI had the least amount of info on Aech. Why do you think that is?

I think Aech has managed to be the most elusive of them all. Apparently he has something big to hide. I hope we discover what it is.

56. Do you think Wade is still thinking about winning the prize or does he have other things on his mind now?

I think he has Art3mis on his mind now more than the egg or the quest. I hope he does win the prize though, given that he has given it his everything!

Srividya Vijapure (theinkedmermaid) | 1160 comments Discussion Questions for Chapters 32 - 36

57) What did you think of Wade's plan to email every member of OASIS and invite them to join the fight?

I think it’s the best way to beat those Sixers.

58) Did Ogden's appearance in their chat room surprise you? What did you make of his offer of help?

Yes I was surprised! Being cynical, I was doubtful of his offer to help.

59) Were you shocked at Aech's true identity? What did you think of Wade's reaction?

Yes I was shocked. Of all the things in the world, I never expected this! Am glad that I was wrong about Aech in the beginning and that she is really a good person.

60) What did you make of Aech's story?

I felt really sad hearing her story. It is true of many women even today, where just being a woman is a disadvantage. I could feel her pain.

61) Were you surprised at how many gunters showed up outside the castle? That all of them chose to fight?

I wasn’t surprised as much as I was pleased. I expected that mainly because it was the end and there has to be some major drama at the end but more importantly because for the gunters, the Sixers are their enemies.

62) What did you think of the battle? Did Shoto's sacrifice surprise you? What about Wade's decision to go after Sorrento instead of escape inside the castle?
I loved the epic battle scene in this book. I wasn’t surprised as the door had to be opened by 3 people and obviously one had to stop. Moreover, Shoto was in it for revenge, so he was the best choice. I wasn’t surprised at Wade’s decision either. Throughout the book he has been shown as someone who cares for his friends more than the quest, so it is obvious that he would go after Sorrento.

63) So, talk about a shocker - were you surprised the Catalyst came back into play this way?

Yes! I didn’t expect that!

64) What do you think will be Wade's final test?

Some game?

Srividya Vijapure (theinkedmermaid) | 1160 comments Discussion Questions for Chapters 37 - end

65 - Did you like Wade's decision to split the money with Aech, Art3mis, and Shoto? Do you think any of them would have done the same?

I loved that decision of his, it was so true to his character. I am not sure about the others though.

66 - What did you think of the game Tempest as the first step of the Third Gate? What about Monty Python and the Holy Grail as the second step?

I think it was exciting, especially how the friends all helped him with his strategies. I loved the Monty Python and the Holy Grail part of it, it was fun!

67 - Do you think a Sixer would have been able to solve the last puzzle, would have figured out the password to the computer?

I doubt it!

68 - What did you make of Halliday's advice to Wade?

I think it was the best advice Halliday could ever give. Throughout the book, despite the virtual world playing a very important role, I think the underlying message was the virtual reality can’t compete and shouldn’t compete with the real world.

69 - Did you like Art3mis's and Wade's meeting (and happy ending)? Was it what you expected?

Yes I loved it. And yes I expected something on these lines.

70 - What will happen next in Wade's world? Will he ever use the Big Red Button? Will Sorrento go behind bars? And will things finally start to get better?

I will be an optimist and say that things will start getting better and Sorrento will go behind bars.

71 - What did you think of the book overall? Any thoughts you'd like to share? What will you rate it?

I loved the book! It was a fantastic read for me, one of my top ten in this year. I rated it 5 stars. I loved the pace of the book, the interaction between the characters and most of all the wonderful 80s trivia that was shared throughout the book. It was simply great!

Ashley Marie Delving into my memories of the first impressions this book gave so I can answer these without spoiling anything early on--

1) What do you think of Ernest Cline's vision of the future? Is it realistic or far-fetched? Why, or why not? I found the "stacks" of mobile homes imaginative, personally.

I found it very believable. The stacks were a fantastic idea, and the notion that the world as a whole would basically have turned to the internet in order to escape imminent poverty is certainly not far-fetched in my mind.

2) First impressions of Halliday? What did you think of his Invitation? If you were a billionaire and had no friends or family, what would you do with your money when you died?

Seems very benevolent, like a kindly uncle or something. Honestly if I was in his position I would probably do the same thing, or else donate it to feed the world since the majority of people seem to be poor in this book.

3) I love the term "gunter," hehe. Would you participate in the hunt? Or would you be inclined to think it was all a big hoax?

I'd be in that hunt so fast.

4) I'm also loving all of these video game references. I grew up playing old PC games and Atari with my Dad. Do you have any favorite video games (childhood or otherwise)?

the Fable and Assassin's Creed series, the Arkham Asylum games, and of course Mario. I remember playing Mario on the SNES and then N64 when we were kids. And Pokemon on my GBC!

5) Seems like Wade's had a difficult life so far. Thoughts? He appears to be very resourceful - I thought his hideout was pretty neat.

Yes, that was interesting. He seems a bit conceited to me, like he thinks he's special for being a gunter, but whatever.

6) What do you think of OASIS (loaded question, I know)? It's much bigger than I imagined (with jobs, real estate). What is your favorite part? Mine is definitely being able to access fictional worlds (such as Middle Earth or the Firefly Universe). Do you think it is well-imagined?

Blew my mind. SUCH a cool idea, and I can totally see something like that being developed. I would love it and as long as I could access places like Middle Earth and Westeros, I'd never leave. I would live in Hogwarts for the rest of my life and that would be the end of it.

7) Can you see the appeal of escaping a world in crisis? What are the consequences of doing so?

Definitely, but then who would be there to fix said crisis/crises if we all went into escapist mode?

8) I can imagine everyone's frustration over IOI's planned takeover. I wouldn't want ads or a subscription fee, either. What do you think of the "Sixers," as the gunters call them? Will they be threats later on as the search continues for the egg?

I don't doubt it. Of course, if you're familiar with games like WoW, they do have subscription fees (which I still think is ridiculous). Isn't it enough to pay for the game to begin with, let alone worrying about subscription fees etc?

9) Do you think we will ever meet Art3mis the blogger? What are your impressions of her (if you have any)? What do you think of Aech?

I think Wade needs to back off from being so creepy about her. "Ugh I have such a huge crush on this girl that I save all these screenshots" AWKWARD. I like Aech though, he seems like a cool dude.

10) What did you think of this first section overall? Are you hooked?

MORE PLEASE.

message 313: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie 11) Do you find Wade's obsessive dedication to the egg hunting commendable or sad?

Both.

12) If gunters don't share anything related to the egg with each other, what do you think they talk about on message boards?

Theories and things like that. All purely speculation, assuming they're bored out of their skulls from time to time.

13) Okay, this one isn't a question - I just had to acknowledge that you can sign up for Quidditch as a school sport in OASIS. That is all.

YAAAAAAAAAAAS. LEMME DO IT.

14) What did you make of Halliday's hiding place on Ludus? What does it say about him that he (appears to have) wanted a student to find the Copper Key?

Yeah that was an interesting choice. Made it a bit easy for Wade and his crew to track it down, it seemed, since they were all based there, but whatever. It got things moving, didn't it?

15) Did you expect things to play out the way they did in the Tomb of Horrors? The image of Wade playing Joust with Acererak was incredibly bizarre, which fits with Halliday's eccentric personality, I suppose.

I've never seen or heard of Joust before this book lol, but I do like the idea of a kid playing old-school video games next to something that looks like the Grim Reaper (that's what he looked like in my head, anyway). Very amusing.

16) Did you expect that someone else had found the Tomb first? Do you trust Art3mis? Now that she has a Copper Key of her own, do you think she and Wade be running into each other more often on their quest?

I loved that a girl had found it before Wade came along. And I can definitely see them running into each other again, she's extremely competitive and it reminds me of Annabeth from PJO.

17) What will things be like for Wade now? What will his relationship be like with Aech? Will he still attend school?

I would hope he'd still go to school (since it is online), but I imagine the quest is going to be all-consuming. He seems to have a very addictive personality. It's probably gonna be tunnel vision from here on out.

18) What do you think is beyond the gate?

Some other obstacle, I imagine. I can't see Halliday making it THAT easy to find the Egg.

message 314: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie 19) What did you think of the WarGames simulation as Wade's quest? Have you ever watched a movie so many times you feel like you can quote it line for line? If so, what movie(s)?

Oh Christ, give me Pirates of the Caribbean or any of the Disney Renaissance films and I will kick ass. Or Harry Potter, and possibly LOTR.

20) I'm not surprised GSS created Flicksyncs after finding out about the simulation. If you could jump into a movie or TV series and play through it, which would it be?

The aforementioned ones.

21) First impressions of Ogden Morrow? What did you think of his interview with the press? Will he be a factor later on in the book?

I imagine him being some jolly old fat guy, for some reason. I do wonder what happened that he hadn't talked to James in ten years.

22) Now Aech has the first key and gate. Will Wade regret helping Aech with the key? Will their friendship continue to hold up despite their competition?

Aw I thought that was cool. Proves Wade's not a selfish dick. Not completely, anyway.

23) Am I the only one who thinks these endorsement deals are a bad idea? Isn't it a bad thing for his avatar's face to be plastered everywhere? On the other hand, it looks like the money he'll earn might save him in the real world.

That's what I thought at first! That didn't seem like the smartest thing, but whatever. Hopefully it works out.

24) What did you think of Sorrento? Did you find any of his offers tempting? Do you think Aech or Art3mis will sell out?

Gods I hope not. He's a corporate sleazeball if I ever saw one.

25) Were you as surprised as I was that IOI had unearthed Wade's identity and location? Did you think Sorrento was bluffing with the explosives?

I thought he was at first, when it took a few minutes for anything to happen. And DAMMIT WADE YOU'RE DUMB. the end.

26) What will Wade do now? It looks like he'll be hunted in both realities. How will he handle the deaths of those in the stacks?

Being that I'm revisiting the questions after having read the book, I was a bit disappointed that he wasn't more upset about everyone in the stacks dying like that. Like, I know his aunt was a bitch to him, and he did mention the neighbor lady, but-- that's it? Meh.

message 315: by Ashley Marie (last edited Feb 16, 2015 10:46AM) (new)

Ashley Marie 27) Is it possible that Sorrento's already gotten to someone in the "High Five," as Art3mis puts it? Or are the members too smart for that?

Hopefully he hasn't, that would really screw things up!

28) First impressions of Daito and Shoto? Were they what you expected?

Well they were Japanese, if that's what you mean. Which is great, I'm so glad we have some non-white-cookie-cutter characters in this book. I love diversity in my books, so seeing them was fantastic.

29) What about the disturbance in the corner of the chat room? Did IOI break into it somehow? Or is something else going on?

THIS BIT SERIOUSLY FREAKED ME OUT. If I was them, I would move to a different chat room.

30) It looks like things are headed to an all-out war between the Sixers and the gunters. Who do you think will reach the Jade Key first?

Dying to find out!!

31) Were you surprised at how easy it was for Wade to create a new identity and set up a new home? Do you like his new place and new gear?

I can't help but feel like he's wasting money on all of this top-of-the-line stuff.

32) What do you think of Wade's decision to stay inside until he finds the egg? What does it say about him that he avoids interaction with any human being whatsoever?

DUDE. GET OUT MORE. I love video games too but I get cabin fever after I've been inside for THAT LONG.

33) What did you think of the chat between Art3mis and Wade? Why do you think Art3mis is so reluctant to reveal anything personal about herself?

Um. Rule #1. Don't reveal personal info on the internet. Duh.

34) Do you think Wade was too obvious about his feelings for her? Do you think Art3mis is manipulating him in any way? Or does she perhaps not trust him to care about the real her?

I don't know man, but she's definitely got a right to look out for herself and tell him to back off like she did.

35) What did you think of Ogden's dance party? Surprised the Sixers crashed it? And what about Og's lightning superpower? That was pretty neat.

Og is badass, the end. I did think he would have more security to prevent the Sixers gaining access though.

36) Book quote:"I was just another sad, lost, lonely soul, wasting his life on a glorified videogame." What do you think brought about this realization? Will this change anything to have admitted this to himself?

"We're just two lost souls/Swimming in a fishbowl/Year after year..." Sorry, what? Oh. Hopefully Art3mis got through to him somehow, that's all I can say.

37) Now that we are roughly halfway through the book, what is your overall opinion of it? Any thoughts not covered in the DQs?

I love it and can't wait to see how it wraps up. Also, Wil Wheaton's narration of the audiobook is AWESOME. And the fact that he mentions himself made me cackle.

message 316: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie 38) What do you think of Wade's stronghold planet Falco? If you bought your own small planet on OASIS and designed it and furnished it yourself, what it would look like (or be modeled after)?

This just reminds me of the hideout feature in the Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire games. I'd probably make it homey with touches from my favorite books or movies.

39) Do you find the "voyeur channels" - the option for every avatar to have his or her channel - realistic in terms of where our television industry is headed?

YES. Youtube is proof enough of that. People love to put themselves out there for others to see, and other people seem to love watching total strangers do stuff, regardless of what it is.

40) Do you think Wade has gotten carried away buying expensive weapons, clothes, transportation, and furnishings? Do you think he'd need a full-time job if he didn't buy such things? Or does he need good ships, weapons, etc., for safety?

Ummm... both. He's carried away a bit, but he does need to watch out for himself.

41) What will the significance be of the quarter from the perfect Pac-Man game? Did you expect something specific or significant to happen after he completed it?

I was puzzled by that too. Maybe it'll be something that carries over into the next book?

42) Do you think Aech will regret helping Wade with the Jade Key? Will they repair their friendship?

Hopefully he won't, but who knows. They seem so distant. He did owe Wade for that one.

43) What did you think of the Zork simulation as the challenge for the Jade Key? Having played Zork, I loved the reference, but I think it defeats the purpose of the game to have everything visible around you.

Not familiar with Zork, but it seemed cool.

44) Were you surprised Sorrento was the first to reach the Second Gate (and shortly afterward, the Crystal Key)? And what about Wade's "plan" to jump off of his apartment building should IOI find the egg first? Wow.

Right? Damn Wade. Bit depressed, are we? And I knew as soon as Sorrento got an inch he'd take a mile, especially with having all his experts in one place. Sigh.

45) How did you react to Daito's death? Did it shock you to find out it was real?

THAT WAS RIDICULOUS AND SCARED THE CRAP OUT OF ME.

46) What did you make of Shoto's story? I found the idea of hikikomori very sad. What about Shoto's new motive - revenge?

Definitely understandable, I just hope he doesn't wind up sacrificing himself (even though it feels like that's what he's setting himself up to do).

47) How did you like the 3-D Black Tiger simulation? We've talked about favorite games, but if you could jump into any video game or PC game this way and play it, what would it be?

Friggin cool as heck. I'd probably want to play Fable II, being my favorite game as it is. And speaking of, I read that Ernie Cline's favorite game is Black Tiger, so it was double awesome to see that show up in such a prominent way.

48) I wonder what the robot is for… Any thoughts or ideas? What do you make of the clue for the Crystal Key? Wade seems to have already figured it out.

I have no ideas. I can't make heads or tails of these clues -- need to freshen up on 80s video games!

Ashley Marie 49. The clue for the Crytal key says the gate cannot be unlocked alone. What do you think that means?

AVENGERS ASSEMBLE. or the High Five.

50. Are you surprised Wade decided to come up with a plan that involved the other members of the High Five after working solo for so long?

What took you so long, man? I'm used to my ex playing WoW and constantly teaming up with others for big quests and stuff, so this just seemed logical to me.

51. Wade was so nervous about going back outside after so long, he was shaking. Do you think he will be able to change after taking IOI down?

That was scary because it feels so plausible. I hope he can come back to reality in one piece once this is all over.

52. Did you think Wade was crazy for going into IOI?

I figured he knew what he was doing, since it seemed so suicidal.

53. Did you suspect that IOI was spying on the High Five?

I thought it likely. I mean, the Ministry kept tabs on the Order members after Voldemort came back to power, so why not?

54. So, Art3mis has a birthmark. Do you think that was why she was hesitant to get close to Wade or do you think it was because of the hunt for the Easter egg?

I dunno. I can definitely understand her being self-conscious about it though.

55. IOI had the least amount of info on Aech. Why do you think that is?

Doesn't he constantly move around? Hopefully he's evading them well enough to not let them get a lock on him.

56. Do you think Wade is still thinking about winning the prize or does he have other things on his mind now?

The main goal of the book seems to be finding the Easter Egg, so hopefully that'll give him the push he needs to carry on with whatever he's doing.

Ashley Marie 57) What did you think of Wade's plan to email every member of OASIS and invite them to join the fight?

See previous comment re: WoW and big quests.

58) Did Ogden's appearance in their chat room surprise you? What did you make of his offer of help?

Awesome. And I don't think you can count it as a deus ex machina because he knocked over the comic books earlier, so Cline covered his ass there.

59) Were you shocked at Aech's true identity? What did you think of Wade's reaction?

THAT. WAS. AWESOME. I was a bit disappointed that it took Wade so long to come around that this was what Aech really looked like, that just felt strange to me.

60) What did you make of Aech's story?

Definitely plausible and I loved it.

61) Were you surprised at how many gunters showed up outside the castle? That all of them chose to fight?

EPIC.

62) What did you think of the battle? Did Shoto's sacrifice surprise you? What about Wade's decision to go after Sorrento instead of escape inside the castle?

Shoto didn't surprise me at all, but Wade going after Sorrento felt like the classic bonehead move.

63) So, talk about a shocker - were you surprised the Catalyst came back into play this way?

THAT was crazy. All-powerful artifacts like that scare the crap out of me in games.

64) What do you think will be Wade's final test?

Hopefully nothing too hard O.O considering he lost EVERYTHING.

Ashley Marie 65 - Did you like Wade's decision to split the money with Aech, Art3mis, and Shoto? Do you think any of them would have done the same?

That was a cool move, and fair since they all helped so much. I don't know if the others would've done the same -- I like to think they would have though.

66 - What did you think of the game Tempest as the first step of the Third Gate? What about Monty Python and the Holy Grail as the second step?

MONTY PYTHON AND SHAKESPEARE. YES. Again, not familiar with Tempest as a game, but the fact that Art3mis worked it out bc of Shakespeare was awesome.

67 - Do you think a Sixer would have been able to solve the last puzzle, would have figured out the password to the computer?

Well... probably. I mean, they were Halliday experts weren't they? So they'd read Og's biography and knew about the Halliday/Kira thing? It may have taken them awhile to put in Kira's avatar's name, but I think they would've gotten it.

68 - What did you make of Halliday's advice to Wade?

Profound.

69 - Did you like Art3mis's and Wade's meeting (and happy ending)? Was it what you expected?

I was so happy!!

70 - What will happen next in Wade's world? Will he ever use the Big Red Button? Will Sorrento go behind bars? And will things finally start to get better?

a. dunno. b. hopefully. c. hopefully. d. hopefully.
GIVE ME THE NEXT BOOK NOWWWWWWWWW.

71 - What did you think of the book overall? Any thoughts you'd like to share? What will you rate it?

5 stars. this book was addictive, engrossing, all of those things. fantastic.
