Cline, Ernest - Ready Player One - Start Date November 12th 2012
Alright, I'm thinking December 1 for a start date. Esther said she would catch up if she isn't already reading it then.
I am joining as soon as I get the book... after November. I have way too much in November, but I have wanted to read this forever.
I want to read this one too, but probably won't have time until January. I may pop in later and leave some comments.
Khaoula wrote: "Would love to join in too. Second half of Nov would be better"Sorry, December 1 is already set as the date. If you read it sooner than that, you can always pop in and join the discussion or start some discussions that others will join in on later. Either way works. :)
I started the audiobook of this at work this week. I've read it before, but have wanted to hear Will Wheaton's read through for awhile.
@Sarah.. when are you going to get the audio? I also want to read this one but won't be able to start right away.
I've been slowly making my way through the audio book (I know I'm early) and forgot how much I absolutely love everything about this book! So many awesome references.
So I couldn't wait for everyone and ate up the audiobook for this. It's my 2nd read through of the book and it's just as amazing as the first read through. Will Wheton makes an awesome narrator, really bringing Wade to life. I can't wait to talk about it with everyone. Is it December yet?
I had no idea Wil Wheaton narrated the audiobook. My library only has the audio version on CDs, which doesn't work for me. Disappointed :(I'm so ready to read it. I may not be able to wait 10 more days, so you may have someone to chat with this weekend.
Is it the weekend already? I'm on Chapter 16, just devouring this book. I am in love with all the 80s references. I especially love it because there isn't anything I didn't get yet, so maybe that means I'm a bit nerdy/geeky/just right. (view spoiler)
Excellent! Great all the way to the end. (view spoiler)@ Jex - you're so right. The ending is very Oh Boy! I love love loved it.
I'm starting this tonight. I won't be able to get very far until the weekend though. I finally broke down and bought the audio because the library was taking forever!
I had to return my copy because I miscalculated the final date that I could have it out and be able to read/return it by. It's okay, I've got it back on reserve and will get it on MOnday or Tuesday. By then I should have more buddy reads checked off my list!
I also want to read this one but will be able to do it only after a week or so. Bogged down with too many reads at present!
@Cynthia - I know right! I was sitting on edge even though it was my second read through. The true sign of a good book. (view spoiler)About Artemis: (view spoiler)

I'm already with my copy of Ready Player One.Mine is a Brazilian edition
.Which edition are you guys reading?
Since this is a re-read for me, I'm going to listen to the audio book because everyone keeps fanning over how great Will Wheaton reads it. I've never seen the Brazilian cover before. That's different.
I'm about halfway now and loving it! I can relate to this in so many ways, lol.1. I'm from OKC
2. I've been a WoW player for years
3. I'm an 80's girl
4. I'm a big nerd :)
I'm not usually a big SF reader because I have a hard time putting a visual to the descriptions. I love SF movies though. However, being a gamer, I can easily visualize every aspect of this.

Btw, I think Will Wheaton does an excellent job on the narration! I've already told my husband he HAS to read this.
Started this morning. It's reread for me.I remember I had to google lot of things. I was preteen in 80s and being from 'wrong country', most of the things mentioned were unfamiliar.
I still loved this book and looking forward to read it again. ☺
I am loving this book. I just stopped by to say I was such a fool not to have read this before. The 1980s references are awesome. I will post my notes later. :)

What?! Wil Wheaton reads this in audio book format. I will have to check this out.
Yes, he's an awesome reader and the perfect match for this book. I was so disappointed that I couldn't find it at the Library or Hoopla and I had already used my audible credit for
.
I started it this evening and I'm already 100 pages in. The writing is so easy to read.I found the explanation about the world's problem very plausible, and even with the many details that the author give us for background in the beginning of the story, the pace is good.
Wade is supposed to be finishing school, but I don't know why I keep imaging him a little bit younger, like around 13 or 14, and skinny. Did anyone see him differently from what the author describes him?

I do too. Wouldn't it be wonderful just to mute people! I love this book. Yay the 80s.
Chapter 6I'm still wondering how Wade had time to watch, read, listen and play all those things and became expert in them. Because it wasn't done only once. Is he sleeping?
He's a kid! It sounds like he spends the majority of this time in the virtual world v. the physical one. He goes to school in OASIS, even. I bet he spends at least 18 hours a day there, maybe more. And they'd been working on this quest for years.
Yeah, I finally started. I am through chapter 2. Already got me thinking about this cybertech world of my daughter's generation. When I started highschool there wasn't even the internet. My daughter is four and she already has an avatar she dresses up and shops for and interacts with others on line. She also likes to get on Youtube and watch different people, who are probably making beaucoup bucks, open package after package of little plastic figures hidden in plastic eggs or blind bags of all kinds of name brand items like Barbie, Frozen and other Disney stuff, action heroes, Little Pet Shop, and her favorite - My Little Pony. But the list goes on and on. So much plastic and trash on this stuff. And a bunch of mindless garbage. Alert, alert to all human life forms on the planet earth. We Are ScrewedIf you disagree - go back to school and learn your science - environmental studies and ecology, which the book briefly touches upon in the first chapter. Scary it is. The complacency is too much.
I know all of that, but still. He said he's spending lot of time studying 80s, and quest goes for 5 years now. That still means he had to master lot of things from 10 years (and more since Halliday liked lot of stuff outside of 80s too) in less than 5 years. Wade said he can solve all of those games in couple of hours, but there is still reading and watching. And learning things about what he read and watched.
My theory is that maybe time passes differently in OASIS or that that interface 'helps' you learn quicker.
Or maybe he has eidetic memory? That could explain.

I would prefer to start it any time during the first half of November or on the beginning of December. But since I have it with me I'll probably can fit it any time that is convenient to the group. :)
