Dan (dan2345) | 304 comments 11:44 PM EST. My family and I had a little barbecue out back today and enjoyed the June weather by grilling up some burgers and hot dogs. It was yummy! I finally got around to watching Logan this weekend. It was really good, but sad at the same time. I finished reading A Passage to Shambhala (The Explorers Guild, #1) by Jon Baird , it got better towards the end. Now I'm reading Who Killed Kurt Cobain? The Story of Boddah by Nicolas Otéro , it's really good. A graphic novel about Kurt Cobain. I don't like the cover art too much, but the art on the inside is awesome. I've always been a big fan of Nirvana, I wish this book had come out when I was sixteen.

Got a busy week ahead. Hope all of you are doing well.

8:16AM Another day at work, this will be 3 closing shifts for me in a row, it is certainly a drain that is for sure. I am trying to get some reading done. Working on HP and the Order of the Phoenix. It is good so far and I am over 200 pages in, so I will read from now till work.

Hi Dan, I always liked Nirvana as well. Glad you are enjoying your reading.

Andrea | 233 comments 10:00 AM...I am just sitting at work trying to not feel sorry for myself. Saturday at the pool has left me sunburned and miserable. Why I didn't put on sunscreen is still a mystery to me. UGH. I am also trying to figure out what I want to read next. I think it might be in the mystery/horror genre. Any suggestions???????????

Dan (dan2345) | 304 comments 1:07 AM EST. Burning the midnight oil again. LOL! i just finished reading Who Killed Kurt Cobain?: The Story of Boddah, I loved it. Now about to start reading Vampire Zero.

It's definitely starting to feel like summer.

Andrea, Susan and Janie made some good suggestions. I have two that you might like that, according to Al Sarrantonio, "every true horror fan should read". Great Tales of Terror and the Supernatural and Dark Forces: New Stories of Suspense and Supernatural Horror. They are anthologies, but I liked the first book l listed a lot (haven't gotten around to reading Dark Forces yet).

On my last two book reviews that I did, there is no Like button you can hit after I finished them. Why isn't it there, can anyone tell me if I'm doing something wrong?

message 13907: by Andrea (new)

Andrea | 233 comments Thanks for the suggestions Susan, Janie, and Dan. I will see if I can get my hands on one of them.

Dan (dan2345) | 304 comments Andrea wrote: "Thanks for the suggestions Susan, Janie, and Dan. I will see if I can get my hands on one of them."

YW...Andrea, the ones I recommended are worth reading. And there are writers in there that are not regulars of the horror/suspense genre who delved into other genres and created classics. I showed my mom ( who does not like horror at all ) Great Tales of Terror and the Supernatural, and she was shocked to find some of her favorite authors in there.

Dan (dan2345) | 304 comments 8:46 PM EST. Had a decent day today. Except...

*IF YOU ARE SKITTISH OR SENSITIVE TO THE SUBJECT OF ANIMALS IN PAIN/DYING DO NOT READ THIS POST ANY FURTHER*

This afternoon, I drove past an accident where a woman had accidentally hit a deer. When I drove past it, I saw cop cars driving in the opposite direction to respond to the situation. The deer was still alive and looked like it was in pain. I AM BY NO MEANS A VEGAN, AND HATE SELF PREACHING VEGAN/ WHACKED OUT ANIMAL RIGHTS PEOPLE...I mean THAT IS IF THEY PUSH THEIR AGENDA TOO FAR IN YOUR FACE. If a person does that, then THEY ARE NOT HEROES, they are just SELF RIGHTEOUS ASSHOLES WHO LIKE THE SMELL OF THEIR OWN FARTS!. I am against animal cruelty too, and being a vegan and having certain beliefs is totally cool. But some people are ridiculous with the animal shit.

Anyway, I'm rambling cause of some of the people I've encountered who started fights ( verbal arguments ) about me saying shit about cats and dogs being abused...blah blah blah. I've eaten venison plenty of times but felt bad for that deer today because I saw the pain in its face. And then I went home and ate a tasty burger.

Alondra Miller 9:34 p.m. First of all, congratulation Victor!! You are such an awesome young man.

It has been a rough week at work. One of my favorite patients lost his battle with cancer. I usually don't mention work related issues or patients; but I must mention him. His first visit was in a wheelchair. He was grumpy, irritated and had just about given up. 2 months after treatment started he walked into the office on his own, determined to fight. He keep fighting up until the last month. This past month, the cancer progressed. He lost his fight; but was a trooper until the end.

This job is emotionally tough, but I would not trade it for anything. #cancersucks

Thanks, Victor. It is what it is. We do the best we can, with all the hope possible. Cancer is not a death sentence like it used to be. Thank Goodness.

I send all the prayers in the world to your uncle and family.

9:01AM Sitting here drinking coffee and preparing myself for a long day at work. I feel like I have been hit by a Mack truck too. Had a good day off yesterday. We celebrated Father's day since Kay and I were both off. So he had a nice little party, we grilled out. It was nice.

Gratz Victor, well done!

Alondra I am so sorry to hear about your patient. Cancer does stink! I am sure you helped keep him going. Bless you!

message 13917: by Dan (last edited Jun 18, 2017 07:13PM) (new)

Dan (dan2345) | 304 comments 9:48 PM EST. Reading Vampire Zero (Laura Caxton, #3) by David Wellington right now.

I celebrated Father's Day today with my parents, my sister, and my grandparents and we had a nice dinner together. I showed you guys the card I did a month ago for my Dad's birthday of the Jeff Dunham "Achmed the Dead Terrorist" puppet cause my dad's a huge fan. Well, for Father's Day, I made him another card done in colored pencil like before, only this time it was Jeff Dunham's Walter puppet. It made him very happy, which made me happy.

Alondra, really sorry about your patient. My grandmother, currently 89, was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer about a month and a half ago. When I saw her today, she looked a bit more sickly than she did two weeks ago. However, she seemed to be in good spirits. It's been very hard for everyone in the family, especially my Mom.

If Cancer were a person (or some other creature...it'd most likely be some type of monster...LOL), I'd tell it what an asshole it is and beat it to death with my bare fists.

Again, Alondra, my condolences. Sounds like you did all you could to help that person.

Anyway, other than that, today was a good day. Our Father's Day dinner was really good, my mom is an awesome cook. And we all had a good time.

Ruth Noemi Rojas (httpwwwgoodreadscomcollinss66) | 33 comments 1:03 AM- Listening to music and just thankful. It's been possibly the worst month of my life, but I'm still standing strong!! I am currently loving the books I am reading. I am reading Sarah Dessen's new book, Once and for All. It came out on the 6th of June. And then I also asked my librarian for a recommendation and she picked out Private by Kate Brian.

Alondra, my condolences! Prayers for you and yours and for the family of your patient.

Man, it has been a long time since I've had the chance to get into a book completely. I already have the second book because I am feeling very nostalgic with this series. It reminds me of the series that got me into reading. So thankful for perky librarians that know how to give good recommendations!

Janie, LOL! I understand. I'm the same way. It has to be completely quiet for me to study/read.

Can anyone offer some advice on how many hours to work when you are in college?
