Winter is almost done here!

So what kind of music are you listening to and what are you writing?"
I was listening to Compass by Lady Antebellum and I am writing a book with a Puritan Native American twist

Yes :)

Lucky you! I reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally don't like winter :("
Here in Minnesota it really got brutal. I got a lot of good reading done with the help of great recs here on Goodreads though!

I really can't complain, our winter's are always pretty mild. No snow etc, the worst we ever get is a bit of hail.

Are your schools out in the summer like here?

Yep, the long break is over the Christmas holidays so December/January.
You guessed correctly Gary - I'm in South Australia :)

haha funny hey - I can't imagine it any other way... it would be so strange to have a cold Christmas. Christmas/New Year is all about BBQ's, the beach, t-shirts and thongs... anything that involves being outdoors :)

Hey Denny! Where have you been?! Haven't heard from you in ages!

Wow. Santa snow and reindeer here.

Well, I would. It's become my favorite genre. I've actually kind of been thinking of it as a thinking person's genre lately. Because they are packed so full of actual historical facts. You can learn a lot from reading historical fiction. Of course, nonfiction is better, but HF is probably one of the best genres for like actually learning something from a fiction book, haha.

Awww thanks... I may send you a copy of it to review whenever it has been proofread by a few people :)

Do you guys put up Christmas trees or have any special Christmas traditions or shows?

10:10 p.m now. I think my Kindle is fixable, customer service says just take it somewhere with wifi (which sadly is not my house) and re-register it to my Amazon account (apparently the kid de-registered it) and all my stuff should be restored. Provided he didn't manually delete any pics or documents (the kind not purchased from Amazon) it all should be restored from the cloud thingy. So that made me feel a bit relieved. Now I'm watching a mini-marathon of Law and Order SVU and getting ready to put the Kindle-maiming kid in bed.
11:06PM Well I have been trying to get some reading done in a book that I should be almost done with, Through the Ever Night. I don't know what it is with this series but I am just not getting into to very much. There was a lot of hype too. Oh well I will finish this one and I don't think I will be buying the 3rd one Into the Still Blue.
Had Chicken and rice for dinner, took Aves to the playground but did not work out this evening because my knees were hurting tonight. I hate missing work outs, but at least I had my walk. Yay tomorrow the pump gets here for the septic system, it has been hard having to watch water usage for 5 days!

Shell, I'm reading a book now that takes place in Australia (Breath), and I feel like it's giving me a real feel for the country. It sounds very beautiful. I'd love to visit someday. Only problem is I'm a terrible flyer.
12:41am EDT. Having trouble sleeping, but it's early yet so maybe there's hope. Thought I would just check in on GR and then maybe read a little. Spent a lot of time in the kitchen today. Prepped all my veg for the week. Roasted some red peppers, sliced some mushrooms that we had with dinner tonight (turkey burgers with roasted garlic, sugar snap peas with roasted peppers). Also got my broccoli and green beans ready to use. Also have some baby spinach and butternut squash. I'm trying a new vegetarian recipe with squash, quinoa, lentils, spinach and some spices. It's a one-pot meal and it sounds pretty good. I'm trying to experiment with more meatless meals. I've given up red meat completely, so I'll be experimenting with lots of new recipes. I really enjoy working in the kitchen. Hope everyone is having a restful night.

Terri-that veggie meal sounds really good-hope you're able to get some sleep tonight
Kathryn-hope you feel better soon
sweet dreams gr
3:27am EDT. Still awake. Have spent time reading and again on GR. Getting ready to make some coffee. Hub will be up in about half an hour. I think I'll make some bread later this morning. I love to make bread--I usually do it about once a week. I'm looking for some new recipes to try. I'm in kind of a rut. I make French bread, focaccia, honey white bread, toasting bread, or spinach rosemary bread. I need to try some whole wheat or rye bread. Will have to get some different flours and some new recipes.
Rachel, hope your reading is going well.
Kathryn, hope you can get some stress relief. You just have so much on your plate, with your recent loss and now moving, which is a big deal. Take care of yourself, let Mark take care of you.

7:02 AM As hard as I try I can never go to sleep before 11:00 PM. I'm going to eat breakfast in a bit. I'm so glad all the piles of black snow are melting! I can't wait until we have some warm weather here.
9:24AM What a beautiful day we will have today! It is Aves and me today. He is watching a movie while I do some online things. Want to finish my book today and I am sure I will. Having some coffee and enjoying the morning.
Kathryn sorry to hear that you are stressed out, that is no fun. I am sure everything will fall into place for you soon! If you need anything, let me know I am here.

Janie, have a fantastic day with Aves! So glad you are getting that crappy pump fixed. Hehe. Punning around. Wish you were enjoying your book more.
Hang in there Kathryn, sending thoughts of hope your way. Hurry up and wait is the hardest part. I hope your hubby loves his new job!

Terri, Rachel, Janie, and Susan, thank you so much for your kind thoughts. It is comforting to know your friends care. :) I'm feeling a bit better today.

Reading the new Harlen Coben book, too. It's pretty good. Typical Coben. So many good books coming out; it's making me crazy trying to keep up. So much I wanna read. Damn, I just can't seem to hit my stride this year.

Terri I read Breath last year and I really enjoyed it. I'll keep an eye out for your review. Tim Winton is one of my favourite authors - his style is so poetic and I've never read another Australian author who can paint such a realistic picture of what it feels like to be in Australia. When I read his writing it is like a sensory experience - I can feel the ocean breeze, smell the salty air, feel the summer heat radiating off the sand and the dry red earth - it is quite amazing.
I hope you do get to visit one day. There is always a bed free at my house!

Victor, I didn't know about the Chopped Cookbook. I'll have to look out for it--should be fun to look at, but I wonder if they included any of the disasters?

hehe Susan yes we do put up Christmas trees :) As for traditions, I think each family has their own. I know a lot of people that have a big seafood feast on Christmas day. Also (unfortunately) the rumours about Aussies being big drinkers are all true, there is always a lot of beer drinking involved at that time of year! Oh, and backyard cricket or cricket on the beach haha

Thinking of you Kathryn, being stressed is horrible. I hope things start to settle down for you soon xo
