Carolyn Written in my own heart's blood doesn't come out until "some time in 2013" and there are already more than 130 PAGES of people who have it on their want-to-read list. This is one we will all buy because we HAVE to own it and could not possibly wait for a library copy. I started when the first book came out and nobody had even heard of Diana Gabaldan. This is book eight. And how many of us are rereading the series again in delighted anticipation?

message 2: by Anne (new)

Anne Barr Just had to re-read the series AGAIN--finding things I forgot and remembering those parts that are wonderful! My books in the series are so tattered from being passed around the family! Got my daughter reading the series!! I should be done (again) with book 7 just in time for IMOHB-- @ Carolyn, as you say, waiting in "delighted anticipation!"

message 3: by Gwenn (new) - added it

Gwenn Wright I'm constantly listening to audiobooks. If you haven't listened, you should! But only to the versions with Davina Porter narrating.

Sherri Over the last 15 years or so, I have read the first 6 books three times. Every time read them I pick up something else. Like Anne, my older books are in tatters! Just reread echo for the second time andI am now ready for book #8!

message 5: by Tammy (new)

Tammy Medeiros I am now listening to Outlander for the 8th time. I have listened to the entire series 5 times through. I cannot wait for "In My Own Heart's Blood". I pray Davina Porter will be Narrating. In the meantime I just finished "The Scottish Prisoner" which added a bit of background to Jamie's time at Hellwater.

message 6: by Theresa (new) - added it

Theresa I cannot count the times I have re-read this magnificent series! Just love Jamie and Claire. My books are extremely "well-loved" (i.e. in tatters!)

Sandy I've read and reread! Bought for my friends, because they do NOT get mine.....anxiously awaiting #8. Traditionally I buy the newest when it arrives on the shelves, for my good friend. How long she's had to wait!

Debbie I completely agree with what you all say about Davina Porter. Her accents and voices are wonderful! Does anyone know of a place where I can get a summary of what happened in the last book? A sort of "previously on...." like you see on TV?

message 9: by Sally (new) - added it

Sally I am re-reading the series in anticipation of the new one coming out in March...I do this every time a new one is on the way (and sometimes "just because"!!) I have even bought the whole series to have on hand in our CO home where we spend our summers....never know when I will be in the mood to read them again...LOL!!

Glenn it takes me months to get through one of these books so i've got the audio version of Echo and will listen to that in the lead up to the release date of this new one. Very excited. I would love it if Diana put out a summary of Echo somewhere (like the summarised books in Outlandish Companion) so me and others could eaasily refresh our memories of where all the characters are at...

Debbie Glenn wrote: "it takes me months to get through one of these books so i've got the audio version of Echo and will listen to that in the lead up to the release date of this new one. Very excited. I would love it ..."

Glenn, I completely agree!! I would LOVE a detailed summary. It is not in my nature to read a book a second time. There is just too much out there that I haven't read yet (so little time in our human existence!) I did the whole series in audio, as well. Davina Porter is AWESOME!! The Outlandish Companion is something I haven't considered to get back up to speed on the previous novels. You say it has a summary of the first 5 or 6 books?

Glenn Just checked. It's just got the first 4 books. I guess that's why DG has been working on a new edition which I'm also looking forward to...

Glenn I don't generally do audio books. Can't focus on them, my mind wanders and I don't know what's going on. But I'm guessing since I've already read this book if I miss a bit I'll still know what's happening. 40 discs though. Wish I had some long drives coming up...

Kathleen yes.

message 15: by Erin (new) - rated it 4 stars

Erin The wait is almost over! Need a review of An Echo in the Bone?

http://booksforherreviews.com/2014/05...

SPOILERS!

Laura Evans I'm re-reading it so that when it comes on Starz, I remember it all. I've read it, book version 3 times and now , this time, I'm doing them all on audible. It really brings the books to life when you can "hear" the characters! Bravo to DG for such an epic tale! I hope we reach 20 books in the series!!

message 17: by Nanci (last edited Jun 04, 2014 02:33PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Nanci L. Definitely! This will be my 2 re-read and each time I enjoy these books more and always seem to find something I might have missed or forgotten. This is such an outstanding series and I can't wait to see it on TV on Starz (that station will d0 it justice too in highly dramatic scenes..remember Spartacus?)

message 18: by Wendy (new)

Wendy Kubena I have completed books 1-7 for the fourth time. I am totally in love with these people, this story, these adventures... I await book 8 with an almost manic anticipation. I refuse to "listen" to books, so I choose to read them. I cannot watch movies made in the "based on the novel" mode or spoken in one voice from beginning to end. I have already seen the people & places, heard their voices and watched their lives unfold before my eyes. The movie/show that can be produced will always fall short of the movie that created itself in my head as I read each and every word. Heart's Blood is the most anticipated tome in my 54 years. Please, Lord, let Gabaldon continue this magnificent epic so that I may continue living with these people who have become my friends, my family. My heart aches knowing that some day ( not soon, I hope) there will be no more word of the Frasers and their kith and kin. I am bereft just thinking about it...

Cindy I, too, am now finishing up An Echo in the Bone, in anticipation of "our" new edition coming. And, it feels that Claire and Jamie (and all) are real (not in a crazy way, but in a comfortable way). As Claire and Jamie age, I'm not sure how I would feel only reading about the next generation were they both aged out of the series. If the series continues, I will have to see about that. Until them....love this book and am a huge fan.

Shari I reread the whole series over the winter and am now skimming Echo to remember where it left off before the new one comes out in JUST A FEW DAY!! Reading it and savoring every moment just might help get me thru to Aug 9th when the series starts on Starz. This is my Outlander summer!

Shari Wendy wrote: "I cannot watch movies made in the "based on the novel" mode"

I get this but I think you really should consider making an exception for Outlander on Starz. I don't know if you've watched any of the trailers or watched the Q&As but they are doing such an amazing job of this epic. They really are!

Laura Evans I definitely think we as readers need to be open minded when it comes to the series going to TV. If we are fixed in what we expect, we will be disappointed for sure, but if we allow the author, the actual creator of our favorite characters to take the lead and show us HER vision of the book (through Starz) then I think it will add even more to the series.. IMO

I agree and can't wait!

Can You tell me what IMO is? I see it a lot in relation to these books. Right? Or sometimes with an additional letter, also? Maybe a B?

Laura Evans IMO - in my opinion :)

Laura Evans IMHO - in my humble opinion :)

Debbie omg. I am not sure why I associated this acronym with the Outlander series.

Thanks!

Laura Evans Well IMHO - in my hearts own? lol

Patricia Klemer yep, re-read the whole series.....again....that's 3 times now. just wanted a refresher for "MOBY" when it comes our. June 10, 3 more days...........yeah!

Debbie Patricia wrote: "yep, re-read the whole series.....again....that's 3 times now. just wanted a refresher for "MOBY" when it comes our. June 10, 3 more days...........yeah!"

yes, MOBY. That's it. What does MOBY mean?

Laura Evans MOBY is DG's nickname for In My Hearts Own Blood

Christine Blackthorn I have gotten so lost in the acronym salad - ok so, rereading all the books, does it make you appreciate the newest one more?

Laura Evans I haven't read the series since 2007 so for me, it was very beneficial to read them again before MOBY came out. I'm still on A Breath. I'm trying to pace it so that I'll finish the last 3 before Outlander comes on Starz :P

Sandy I ordered mine last week, just started reading it and find it very difficult to get household chores done! So far, she's done a fine job reminding you who each character is and the last we read about them. Truthfully, I've forgotten so much, should have reread the last one at least.
