Kirsten (kmcripn) Just finished my Kindle Unlimited selection First Activation (Activation, #1) by Darren Wearmouth First Activation by Darren Wearmouth and Marcus Wearmouth.

I really enjoyed it. It starts like a standard zombie apocalypse. But there's a twist! No zombies. Definitely worth a peek!

Kirsten (kmcripn) Just finished listening to Emma Thompson's incredible performance of The Turn of the Screw by Henry James. Emma really outdid any other narration of this. She kept the tension in this story going up and up.

Turn of the Screw is one of those stories that I adore, being a huge fan of gothic fiction. However, Mr James is very wordy and can nearly lose you.

Kirsten (kmcripn) I just finished my Kindle Unlimited selection.

The Second Golden Age of Science Fiction Megapack #2 -- Mark Clifton by Mark Clifton The Second Golden Age of Science Fiction Megapack #2 -- Mark Clifton

I really enjoyed this. The stories range from light and funny (heavy on the irony) to larger narratives about the future of Man.

Kirsten (kmcripn) I just finished reading Leaving Time by Jodi Picoult Leaving Time by Jodi Picoult

https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Wow. This book is incredible and I did not see the twist at the end coming. But be warned this is at the least a 6 kleenex cry at the end.

It's been a long time since I read a book where I wanted to go back to page 1 and start over. But I really would like to do that with this one.

Kirsten (kmcripn) Just finished reading Illuminae (The Illuminae Files, #1) by Amie Kaufman Illuminae by Amie Kaufman, part of the Goodreads Choice Awards challenge.

Really enjoyed it. Great adventure. But the format can be annoying for someone with impaired eyesight. I wonder if it would've been better as an audio without all the visual tidbits they give you in the book.

Kirsten (kmcripn) Just finished listening to the The Guns of August by Barbara W. Tuchman The Guns of August by Barbara W. Tuchman. An incredible book about the lead up and first month of World War I. So many mistakes were made that led not just to deaths of this war, but also the mistakes in the peace (not covered here) led to death in World War II as well as the Balkan wars and the Middle East. A lot can be laid at the feet of the arrogant leaders in August 1914.

Cheryl | 1161 comments I'm reading The Curse of Jacob Tracy.

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

It's a supernatural fantasy Western set in 1880. Not too far into it, but so far so good. The characters are well-written and I like the writing style. It's the first in a series about a ghost hunter.

Kirsten (kmcripn) I finished Working Stiff (A Mattie Winston Mystery #1) by Annelise Ryan Working Stiff by Annelise Ryan yesterday. An excellent debut cozy, though I am not sure it qualifies as a pure cozy since it has some elements you don't normally see there.

James Rennard (jamesrennard) | 3 comments So...one of my first posts here, but I thought I'd share the few classics that are currently on my desk:

Flow My Tears, the Policeman Said
Othello
The Republic

It's a bit of an odd list, but they all tie together in a way. Some of my recent reads referenced Othello and PKD made a few comments on theophany, philosophy, and realities in VALIS, which I found interesting. Anyway...that's what is on my desk!
