Harwood looks around. Nobody for miles. A canon goes off and Harwood pauses. It couldve been Josh. It could have been Josh. He would never forgive himself. Harwood runs to the cave where he and Josh once hid. Nobody. Harwood runs the opposite way he had, towards the cornucopia. He sees a figure in the distance. Josh. Standing. Over the dead body of a girl. They were the final two. The final two tributes out of 24. Wow. Harwood runs toward Josh, a smile on his face. They wpuld find a way to both get home. As he runs towards Josh, Harwood watches Harwood closely. But he doesnt smile. He shakes his head. Harwood screams when he sees the knife. Josh looks at Harwood one last time and salutes. Tears escapes his eyes as he runs, but he's too late. Harwood watches in horror as Josh slits his throat and falls to the ground. Harwood rips his shirt off and falls to his knees besde Josh. "Im-Im gonna stop the bleeding, ok? Ok?! Josh!" Harwood presses his shirt to Josh's neck desparately trying to think what to do. Josh looks at him "Have fun at home kid, play a song for me or those old bats an-" A gurgle escapes Josh's throat and blood spills onto Harwood's hands. "No, no you can't die, NO no you- you-" Harwood said nothing as Josh looked towards him one more time. He doesn't say anything, he just stares. Harwood doesnt realize its because he's dead. He keeps waiting for Josh to say something. "Josh? JOSH?!" Harwood's final screams cannot be heard because of the celebratory trumpets and the final canons. Harwood eventually looks up at the sky. "Hey Pickle. Im comin' home." he smiles through the tears. Josh would have wanted him to go home. He wouldve wanted him to go out there and live out his life in happiness. Harwood stands up. Waiting for the hovercraft, when it comes, he steps on the ladder and climbs up. The sky of the arena dematerializes and he can see the treetops. The treetops of his home. District 7. He was going home.
