Mike Briggs (mikebriggs) | 188 comments This is the first time I've attempted to do this so I leave this here. My question would be: Did I do this right?

Multiple Authors used the Brian Coffey name. An Irish poet and Dean Koontz. And possibly a third author.

The Separating authors with the same name page says to put a space between the names. I put one additional space for two spaces total between Brian and Coffey for the Irish poet's works. Brian Coffey. I then added in the information for that author.

Next I had to deal with a pen name situation. According the the librarian manual:

"Regarding author pseudonyms or pen names - some authors write or have written under multiple names. When editing or adding information for a book written by an author with multiple names, enter the author's name as on the front cover as the primary author. The author's other names may be added in the other author fields. Original name or other pen names can added and linked via a Librarian Note: in the description field, or using the Librarian Note feature located above the Title field. In some cases, a book may be originally published under a pen name, but then later reissued under the author's original name. When this happens, the author listed for any and all editions should be the author name the book was originally published under - so the reissued edition would need its author name changed to the originally published pen name. Doing this will allow the various editions to be combined."

So, based on the above, I made sure all of Koontz books which had been previously published as by Coffey had Coffey's name on them. As they were books previously released by Coffey, I put the Coffey name as the primary author and put Koontz name as a secondary author since all of them were reissued under Koontz name ("so the reissued edition would need its author name changed to the originally published pen name.")

One book remains with Koontz name listed as the primary author. That one was released in, I believe, Germany, but I do not know if Coffey's name was used for that release.

One book remains on the Brian Coffey page for which I am uncertain of the actual author. It appears to be a childrens book. Abecedarian

So I am left with three questions: 1) Did I separate out the names correctly, 2) did I handle the pen name issue correctly, and 3) does anyone know if Abecedarian was written by a third Brian Coffey?

Hopefully I have done this correctly.

vicki_girl | 2764 comments For the pseudonyms, if the book was first published under the name Brian Coffey, then all editions should have Brian Coffey as the primary author. "Dean Koontz" would be listed as secondary on the reprints.

For the German book, if it is a translation of a book that was first published under the Brian Coffey name in English, then primary author should still be Brian Coffey, even it was never printed like that in Germany. This will make it so the book can be properly combined with its English version.

For the Abecedarian book, Library of Congress attributes it to the Irish poet:

Banjomike | 5166 comments It is the Irish author.

The book is illustrated poems and the national Library of Ireland have it:

they hold his personal copy so they should know where it came from.

Mike Briggs (mikebriggs) | 188 comments Thanks, I've moved the Abecedarian book over to the Irish author, and switched the German books to Coffey as the primary author.

I haven't double checked the editions yet for the Coffey/Koontz books. I'll add and switch them to Coffey primary now.
