That's a very good point about Dracula's vanity. I hadn't thought of that. I find it particularly creepy that Dracula was most likely the driver that picked Jonathan up. This is a great book and the perfect pick for the month of October.

I am a little confused about the scene with the women. I am sure it will make more sense the more I read, but why will they be able to have their way when he is done with him? And what was this talk about not ever loving? What did that have to do with anything? Man, the way he writes, it just builds up so much anticipation. I need to know what is happening.

I figured he needed the guy for business so obviously having him be a snack before the transaction was done would be a bit inconvenient.
I wonder how any of us would act if we were in a situation where we felt we couldn't escape unless we absolutely had our wits about us? I mean, he knows he can't just get out, so he doesn't want to rock the boat by making the situation more testy between himself and the count. Yet listening to him he does seem to slowly be losing hold of his sanity.

LOL!
LOL!
"What manner of man is this, or what manner of creature, is it in the semblance of man?"
So far I feel like Jonathan should be a little more scared. He plays it off well being a prisoner. He still has conversations with the Count but I do not think I could act normal after everything that has happened so far. The whole castle is creepy. Locked doors and no servants. I also think that I would have freaked out a lot if I saw someone scaling the walls like a lizard. He chalked it up to his imagination! The part where he thought he was dreaming with the women? I would have been terrified! He knows something is not right but he seems to just keep going. I know he does this cause he has no other choice.
I also picked up that even though Dracula gets so upset about the mirror saying something like they are vain things of man I noticed that he himself is very vain. Rambling on and on about his people and their accomplishments during battles and war like he was there, which he probably was.
I wonder why he is protecting him but holding him prisoner. He didn't want the women to mess with him. What does he want from him? Kinda ominous saying when he is through with him, the women can have him.
I also have to say that I like doing it by chapter cause before I was scared with the other books to put anything that would give it away. This way I know I can say what I want!
