i actually really enjoyed it. i think that was one of the first mainstream fantasy/dystopian type books because we know that we're in the future based on how society is, yet it's quite sci-fi.
i've read it over a few times and each time i pick up something new. i can't wait for the movie and i hope that she DOES write a sequel.

I found the first three chapters or so to be great for setting the scene but not great on the entertainment factor. Once they get into the cave the story really picks up for me and is definitely in my top five books. I can read it over and over which is not something I can do with many books. I find it an easy entertaining read and I would love for Meyer to release a sequel to this.
Given that this story is available, I'm a little confused at to what all the fuss is/was over Twilight BUT, I'm not a huge twilight fan. Twilight's ok for me but not fantastic although I'm not one for verbally abusing twihards. I'm a little apprehensive for the film because I'm convinced they're going to make a mess and make Wanda/Melanie completely vacuous and weak. Guess only time will tell but on the whole, top book for me.

I seriously loved this book.. I did find that it was hard to get into, but once I was about 200 pages in I was totally hooked. This is one of the only books that actually made me cry, more than once. I'd read it again and I can't wait to see the movie in March 2013
I personally thought this book Dragged on.I was totally expecting something comparable to Twilight..Not even close.Total Disappointment.
Well, I still haven't read the ending - not because I think the book is bad though.. I actuallly really love it!!! And normally I hate everything that's classified as science fiction.. I've never come across a book with this idea and plot before, so I thought it was great, fun, exciting and brilliant :)
Stephanie knows sometimes overdone it these romance parts.People in her books are overly emotional, overly romantic and overly sentimental.
More like Goethe's "The Sorrows of Young Werther" that was written in 1774 then book written in 2011.
Because of this overdoing romance all characters seems bit unreal.
This suppose to be in like in 2045 and apocalyptic distopia future in which this alien invasion happen and not 18 century Romantic Period!
I hate when writers stretch out the end of book and everything is clear but book still goes for another 5 chapters of unnecessary explanations on end.
Only two things I would change about Host.
But Stephanie Mayer really got better since Twilight.

I personally loved this book! I was weary to read it because of twilight,.. But it was so different, and a really fun read. I could not put it down and it is one that I don't mind re-reading again.
I absolutely loved this book. I remember when I first bought it, I wasn't very interested in it but it was Stephanie Meyer. When I finally did start reading it, I could not put it down. I personally like it better than the Twilight Saga and pretty much any other book I read just doesn't compare to The Host.

Nice book. I usually hate alien stuff and science-fiction, but i ended up getting caught up in the story, so i guess i liked it..nothing extraordinary, but a good read, in my opinion. I would like a sequel, but i'm afraid it will spoil the feeling i got after finishing the book.

I liked the Host better than I liked Meyers other books (the Twilight series)
I'm in love with this book! It's my favorie! My favorite character is Melanie Stryder, Wanderer (Wanda), Ian O'Shea and Jared Howe!
I found this story nearly impossible to get through. The concept is kind of fun, but in practice it was a complete fail.
I really enjoyed this book! It's way better than twilight and just really different from everything she has written!
overall an okay read!

IT SUCKED..... There is a reason why she released this book after the twilight books.. It was written before the twilight books...
I delayed reading it because I wasn't really a huge fan of 'Twilight', but I much preferred 'The Host'. The characters were better, and more relatable, dealing with love in a realistic sphere, rather than love with a mythical creature. It did drag at the beginning, but it was quite interesting to read, definitely more so than 'Twilight' and its successors.
I really liked it. It was one of the few books that lent itself well to deep introspection and a lot of narration being in the mind of the character. That is a hard thing to do well, and few do so. C.S. Freidman is one such author, her books are really long but it never feels really long. I felt that way about this book. I know it's long, and in the beginning it did drag a little, but as soon as she decided to go out and find Jeb, it moved along nicely. I've read it twice and loved it both times. And I too am hoping for a sequel. I don't feel their stories are done.
I thought the first quarter was a little slow, but other than that, I really enjoyed it. I was interested to hear that Ian was originally just intended to be Kyle's sidekick and nothing more, but he took over and became a more significant character. I'm really glad this happened, as he is my favourite character.
There were spelling errors and it had bad sentence structure. The main character was at best a wimp. Shuddering at everything. The similarities between this and her Twilight books is remarkable. Except instead of two boys going after one expressionless female, there is two women after one man...This book was a difficult read.I couldn't finish this book. But if you enjoyed it then good for you!

I really liked it. I agree with everyone else - it definitely did drag. But honestly, I thought it only did in the first 6 or 7 chapters. After that, I was totally sucked in and couldn't put it down.
i was going to read this for about half an year, but was dealying it,but when i started reading it i loved the book,so, yeah, i love it
It did dragged for about three quarters of the book but picked up towards the end. And I love the world building!
One of my favorite books of all time. It did drag but i believe it was necessary to make a good story.
I REALLY HOPE THEY DON'T RUIN THE MOVIE LIKE THEY DID WITH HER OTHER BOOKS.

I really enjoyed this book. After reading the Twilight series, I wondered how it would be and I was not disappointed at all!
The concept is really good, but thought that the book dragged on forever so it got boring. So far I think the movie will be much better.
I think Stephenie Meyer is a one-hit-wonder. She isn't working on anything new.
