Roy Kimbrell Wikipedia, in the intro to the article on The Brothers Karamazov says, "Since its publication, it has been acclaimed as one of the supreme achievements in literature." Well, perhaps. Some will find the book interesting. Others will find it boring and a waste of time. Roughly half the people are most concerned with what people feel and how they relate to others. The other half cares most about what happens - what actions occur and why. If you're in the first group you will find the book interesting, at least. If you're in the second you will find it terrible at best.

I found the book to be poorly written, from a writer's standpoint. It was overly wordy and repetitious. There were extensive(!) sections that had no place in a novel. Perhaps in 1880, readers didn't mind this. The sub-plots had little or no bearing on the main theme (if you could actually find a theme).

If you're someone who most cares about the action, the "bottom line," the results, you won't like it. If you care most about what feel and how they interrelate, you might like it.

I read it. Didn't like it. Won't read Dostoevsky again.
