I don't think you lose the 500, just don't get another treat til you accumulate another 488....

Sam (ecowitch) | 2354 comments Ooooooooo even better!!! Oh look at me with my pages :-D

message 253: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59875 comments I finished my first Topper book! Yabba-dabba-doobie!

I finished First Grave on the Right for Witches Brew.

310 pages
500 WB

810 pages. I'll have to think about my treat... maybe he'll come visit me in my dreams tonight.

message 254: by Sam (new)

Sam (ecowitch) | 2354 comments Well done Janice...and that reminds me I didn't include my Witch's Brew pages for my first one which takes me to 1,012 so I can have another treat, this time I'll have the extra 250 pages so I've got 1,262 pages in total...I think...

message 255: by Beth (new)

Beth (eparks4232) | 2556 comments Ok, you guys can tell me if this is right....

I read the book The Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling
Prev Pages: 777
This book pages: 503
This is a read Witches Brew book so: 500
That gives me: 1780 and that should earn me 2 treats
I will choose a fiction book and 250 more pages which puts me at 2030 and then gets me another treat (choosing 250 MORE pages...): so I am now at 2280 and going to get reading my free fiction...

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Did you hear a really loud scream of anguish around 3:30 this afternoon? That was me, as the battery in my mp3 player gave out. I lost the cable Sunday, but really hoped I'd get through the book. That meant I had almost five hours of work with nothing good to listen to! Tomorrow I will give up some reading time to go try and find a usb cable. As a precaution I checked the book out from the library this week, so I can at least read it, but I loved the narrator. The book is Scent of the Missing Love and Partnership with a Search-and-Rescue Dog by Susannah Charleson , and it's really good.

Almeta (menfrommarrs) | 11456 comments I am reading a book that was due back at the library today. If I return it in the morning before they open, they will never know.:P Looks as though I'm staying up late!

message 262: by Kat (new)

Kat (katzombie) | 2478 comments Oh, we are into the last day! Sorry I've been a little MIA the past few days, someone decided to share their lovely flu virus with me :( and reading went right out the window. That's how crappy I felt!

message 263: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments Kat, sorry to hear about that darned flu bug. Glad you are back in action.

message 264: by [deleted user] (new)

Ok, I know it's not finished, but I'm not going to get through another book, so I'm totaling up.

The Railway Man 288 pages
The Long Walk: The True Story of a Trek to Freedom 278 pages
Forgotten Voices of the Great War 322 pages.

= 888 pages.
Plus 100 pages for being a topper newbie.
=988
So I earn 250 pages for the first 500, making 1238.
that then gives me another complete 500 pages, so earning another 250 pages.
Grand total = 1488.

I have no idea if that's right or wrong, but hey ho!

message 265: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59875 comments Poor Kat - packing, battling a flu bug! Have a hot toddy and feel better quickly!!

Almeta - do fines start the day the book is due? If I returned a book on the day it was due, I'd be okay. Fines would start the next day. Which reminds me, I had better check my due dates on the books I have out.

I finished, finally, Fat Girls and Lawn Chairs by Cheryl Peck , Fat Girls and Lawn Chairs

Officially I have finished two books for the toppler but my scoring seems to be caught in an endless loop with pages earned in tricks. Someone had better go check out my toppler thread and help me off that squirrel cage. Please.

Janice (jamasc) | 59875 comments ANNOUNCEMENT!

Any orange book started during the toppler, but not completed in time to count it for the toppler, may still be counted towards your orange rainbow requirement!

Awesome!!!! I'm halfway through my orange book
Odd Apocalypse (Odd Thomas, #5) by Dean Koontz
and I wasn't sure that I could finish before the end of today. Now it will still count if I finish tomorrow or Monday! Yeah!

message 269: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Poor Kat! You should have made Mr. read to you :)

Yay Deedee! Now you can breathe and eat and still finish your book :D

message 270: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Beth (eparks4232) | 2556 comments Trying to get through Indulgence in Death for the end of the day. It's my free fiction, but it will also help with the Rainbow half year...

Sam (ecowitch) | 2354 comments Woohoo, so glad I don't have to rush my orange book. Was wondering about that but was afraid to ask ;-)

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4026 comments @ Kat - Uh oh, get well soon.
@ Janice - Thank you, my lady.

Is The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot good for an Orange book?

The panic has set in, I'm in the middle of 5 books, crap!

message 274: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments I might just take you guys up on one more orange. That would make my total 31 oranges, one for each day in the month of August (and October)!

message 275: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments Pragya! What a delimma. Hope you've figured out what you are going to do. Hugs!

message 276: by Beth (new)

Beth (eparks4232) | 2556 comments Prev pages 2280
Free fiction from prior treat: Indulgence in Death which is 373 pages = 2653 pages
Which gets me another treat of 250 pages, so my final total (unless I read something else before midnight.... Hmmmmm) is 2903. Hmmm. Really might need to find a quick DIY book so I can have a tricks selection....

message 288: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments OMG, I can't believe I missed the end of the Toppler! I get my cable, phone and internet through my cable company. I lost phone and internet service somewhere between 8-9pm, but still had cable tv. I was so upset! Just got service back about 30 minutes ago. It sounds like most people made it til midnight. I'm sorry I missed out on the final countdown!

message 289: by Kat (new)

Kat (katzombie) | 2478 comments Sounds like you had an awesome week ThingTwo ;-) well done on your first Toppler successes!

JMom, I hate when I loose internet - I feel so cut off from the world!

Must be where I'm going wrong. I managed 4 books as well as:

Digging the last carrot & spuds from the vege patch
Weeding said vege patch, as well as the front garden
laundry
cleaned kitchen
made a mess of kitchen making carrot & coriander soup
Cleaned kitchen
made a mess of kitchen making root vegetable soup
cleaned kitchen
go to work (and have the week from hell, but that's a different story)

I obviously have my priorities wrong somewhere! Mind you, it's been a nice way to lift the gloom, diving into some good books & reading what you've all been getting up to. Count me in for the next one. >:-)

I agree. I had intended to listen to more audiobooks, but that didn't work out well this week. Plus, audiobooks typically take longer to finish and I wanted to use the challenge as an excuse to read a LOT. ;-)

message 297: by Thing Two (new)

Thing Two (thingtwo) Don't worry too much about my dogs; my hubby took care of feeding us all, and the dogs spent the week reclining on my lap.

When's the next toppler? I don't want to go back to my to-be-done list!

message 298: by April (new)

April | 970 comments Does anyone know where that broccoli salad recipe was posted? My hubby is home and I want him to make it for me, but I can't remember what thread it was posted in.

Thing Two.....I think there is a Toppler every other month.
