Coffee in hand, still in my jammies, I'm ready to start the day. I had a weird night. I was quite restless and woke at 4:30. I read a little of my book and then fell back to sleep.

Only if i can keep 3 year old fingers busy elsewhere :)
jaxnsmom wrote: "Amanda - brain fart or zombies ate part of my brain, take your pick. You are reading Dracula first. Climbing the Mango Trees sounds good. I have at least on of Jaffrey's cookbooks."Haha I understand! I'm looking forward to trying one of Jaffrey's recipes today, so I can collect some points and pages! :)
I am back, sadly I haven't read much and I am really tired after the day's work and being awake last night. I visited most of the individual toppler pages, didn't get to read/listen much during the commute. It was really crowded and noisy. :(Still reading First Grave on the Right

I did listen to a bit of an audiobook, but it was one I started before the Toppler so I've made zero progress!

Even with the non-toppler audio book, atleast you had a better commute, Kat.
Beth wrote: "Have some gaps between clients today and will be reading away. Hope everyone is having a good day!!"I am so J, Beth. :p Have fun reading away.
I'm having some of the same issues. Can't find the time or place or read!! My parents have been here since Saturday. They are both hard of hearing and the volume to the television is up as high it will go! Furthermore, my Dad, bless his heart, won't allow me to read. He wants me by his side all the time and is talking continuously! I'm one of those people who need a quiet space to read. EVERYTHING seems to distract me! I do love having my parents here so, I will just have to say, "Oh well" for now and just read what I can.
My dad left this morning, so hopefully I'll get some reading done this week. I got one book read Sunday, about 250 pages. It seems like we've all had obstacles/distractions/real life getting in the way :)

Take that noisy train travellers!
After staying up most of Sunday after midnight with my sister and finishing 2 books, I went home to rest some. I started Green River, Running Red: The Real Story of the Green River Killer--America's Deadliest Serial Murderer Sunday afternoon and went to bed early.Today, I've been working all day and rest a little at lunch. Tomorrow I'm planning to hang with my sis again and do more reading.
Glad to see everyone piping in and reading, reading, reading... with some tea and biscuits thrown in now and then... or coffee.
April wrote: "Help! My Dad won't stop talking !"Heh my Dad had the worst timing ever. He used to live in the flat out the back of our place, and we would go weeks without seeing him.
But as soon as we started something that couldn't be put off (the usual was organising 25 ppl to play a video game together on the net) he would appear suddenly and mysteriously, like a chatty Yorkshire genie, and wanted to catch up on EVERYTHING possible right then. Oh and then *show* me everything he had done in the flat and the garden as well.
I have no doubt this would apply to Topplers too. So in short, I feel your pain.
April wrote: "Help! My Dad won't stop talking !"Get a tape recorder and record, "Yup... ahuh... mmmm" in intervals. Then read away.
Was out most of the day. Went out with a friend to celebrate our birthdays and walked around Old Town in San Diego. Sill reading the same book. Going to be up until the wee hours catching up.
April wrote: "Help! My Dad won't stop talking !"Say you have a headache and have to go lie down for a while :)
My 14 year old nephew and my sister stayed with us last night so I barely got any reading done. They left not too long ago and I can finally read for a bit without anyyone disturbing me. Yay! For peace and quiet!
I've finished a book last night, but will have to delay picking another as I've got that pesky thing called work! How dare it get in the way of my reading!!
Life is pretty busy for me this week, so I won't be able to get in as much reading as I would like. Fortunately, I'll be able to listen to a book on a trip today (there and back).
April wrote: "Help! My Dad won't stop talking !"Hey April - are we related????
I swear my husband sees a book in my hand and thinks "She must be bored! I need to entertain her!" and away he goes ...
The funny things is, he didn't used to be like this, but his father was EXACTLY this way! I loved his father, miss him daily, so I'm perfecting my half-listening technique.
Have you thought about flesh colored ear-plugs?
It seems that you guys could use a few of thesehttp://www.theliterarygiftcompany.com...

Judy wrote: "Are you a teacher, Lara?"Yes. I started my first academic position in August, so am very interested in developing a good record for tenure. Of course, the teaching load does get in the way of my reading ;-).
Unfortunately for me during this Toppler, on two days I have meetings during the day and class at night, and teach for 6 hours this Saturday. So, I'm not able to take advantage of the final day as I normally would.

LOL! I'm ordering one now! PERFECT for my morning tea. I've actually resorted to a sign on my office door for when I write, but somehow reading is seen as non-work. Perhaps because I read reclined on the sofa (hammock, bed, floor, grass, beach towel, pretty much anywhere I am able ...)
Off to find that mug on a US site. Thanks for the suggestion.

Those are great! I definitely need the mug for my husband.
Here is a funny music video about reading as well:

Oh Sam, that link! Now perusing that site is going to eat into MY reading time ;)
Fab link! I'm loving the recycled book confetti. Reminds me of Grandad, who used to save all the hole punch "holes" from the office and throw them at a wedding. >:-)

Glad you like the links guys, now just imagine how much I've ordered from there since discovering it last year...I order stuff that often we're on a nickname basis!!!
Good morning,I don't remember if this was answered but if I qualify to read another Orange book does it have to be read during the Toppler?
Kat wrote: "Pragya wrote: "Kat wrote: "Pragya wrote: "I am back, sadly I haven't read much and I am really tired after the day's work and being awake last night. I visited most of the individual toppler page..."Great plan, Kat. Wish I could do that too. :(
Sorry, I just found the answer to my question about reading the Orange book during the Toppler. But here's a new wrinkle; if the Orange is also a horror or non-fiction, do I get to count the pages toward a Treat? Not being greedy or anything, just thinking....

But I did finish The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks because I can actually HAVE a lunch break when I'm not in the office!

And I am not getting into any of the Classic Horror audio books :(
Amber wrote: "First of all, I'd like to let you all know that I have tried several times to check in on individual reporting threads to see what everyone is reading. But the conversations are so hilarious that I have no idea what anyone has read. I do, however, have some beautiful pictures of half-naked men etched into my brain. LOL, same here, Amber. :p
And second of all, the mister will be home late tonight which means a solid 3 hours of uninterrupted quiet reading time in which I will finish at least 1 of my books and make a significant amount of progress in others. And, most likely, drink a significant amount of coffee to avoid the nap that usually follows a day of work. Napping is my favorite hobby.

Yay for some great reading time!

I think so, but you have to ask the Toppler gurus - Judy and jaxnsmom.
I logged on this morning to 27 unread messages in this thread alone. Boy oh boy... I need to get to work!I started First Grave on the Right last night and am enjoying the flippant banter.
I also read a bit more of Fat Girls and Lawn Chairs and had my first LOL moment. She was talking about her cat. Why is it cats are always good for inspiring laughter?
Busy, busy, busy, people. I want that mug. The people at work would love seeing me with it.
Happy Birthday, Beverly!
