What, really? :O
11% into First Grave on the Right, liking it so far. Time for bed (2:30am), tomorrow's a work day. Will catch up with all of you after around 17 hours.
This question may have already been asked, but do I count all the pages in the book I just finished, or only the ones I've read since midnight?
I did get to the laundromat and got a bunch of reading done there. It was much more relaxing than my life since coming home, which involves insane 4 year old energy. And a barking dog. OY.
I'm deferring the digestives questions to the Europeans. We call them wholemeal biscuits over here.My not so busy week looks like it's going to be busier than I anticipated. But if you all send me positive thoughts so I can get a lunch break today (it'll be the first one in weeks!!) I'll try and make a dent.

Did you get your lunch break?
Wow!! There is so much activity going on today that I'm finding it very difficult to keep up! I could spend all my time reading and responding to posts! But I have to get busy with my reading!!Having a great time with all of you. It really is a lot of fun!

Happy Anniversary!
I decided to take a wee nap around noon, but with a combination of the lovely rainy day and my lack of sleep over the last week or so, I didn't wake up until 6:30. However, I do feel refreshed and ready to go! I even flipped on the tv and caught a clip about 007 and Daniel Craig on 60 Minutes. ; )
I rarely watch tv; however, Masterpiece Theater is a delightful luxury I do enjoy. I am watching Call the Midwife tonight then I shall begin reading again.
@Helen, re msg 81, report the number of pages you actually read, somewhere between 276 and 288.@Jane - Happy Anniversary!
@Roz - I have cheese, crackers, grapes and apple for snack, although mine is self-serve :)
@Janice - YAY! The move is done. Hope you're getting in some good reading!
Yikes on housework!
The potato chip thing is hysterical.
@Thing Two - That's great that you just joined the group, and jumped right into the Toppler! Welcome.
@Rusalka - Does this mean we'll be seeing Kermit? ☺ Sending positive thoughts your way for some breaks.
@Connie - I envy you your "nap"!
Something that I think needs clarifying, 'cause I know I had it wrong and want to be sure others don't too.No matter the number of pages, completing a Witch's Brew earns you 500 free pages. And completing a Trick automatically earns you 400 free pages.
***NOTICE***Don't take above msg 124 as truth yet. I am getting an official ruling (yes, football is on) from Judy on this.
To help with the clarification... to complete the Witches Brew or Tricks, you only need to complete ONE of the tasks for each achievement, regardless of the number of pages.
If you complete Witches Brew by reading a 299 page book, you will have 500 + 299 = 799 pages.If you complete a 299 page book for a Trick, you will have 400 + 299 = 699 pages.
Pragya wrote: "Amanda, I will catch up with you on Dracula"Alrighty! I think it's pretty good so far, but I had to work today so I haven't made it very far. Looking forward to seeing how it turns out!
Looks like I'm going to have to read all night, good thing I've got two days off! Toppler's are so much fun! :)
***SPECIAL NOTICE***Final clarification on free pages for Witch's Brew and Tricks:
You can read one book of any page length and complete a Witch's Brew and get 500 free pages. There is no page requirement. You do not have to read 500 pages first.
Reading one book and completing a Trick will get you 400 free pages. There is no page requirement. You do not have to read 500 pages.
Amanda wrote: "Looks like I'm going to have to read all night, good thing I've got two days off! Toppler's are so much fun! :)"Two days off? That sounds wonderful right now. Unfortunately, I was off all this past week and have to go back to work tomorrow :(
What are you going to read first?
Amanda - brain fart or zombies ate part of my brain, take your pick. You are reading Dracula first. Climbing the Mango Trees sounds good. I have at least on of Jaffrey's cookbooks.
Connie wrote: "I am planning to read Bitter Harvest: A Woman's Fury, a Mother's Sacrifice

Connie wrote: "I am planning to read Bitter Harvest: A Woman's Fury, a Mother's Sacrifice
Ann Rule, which is a true crime /nonfiction/ red c..."Connie, it is my understandin that all true crime counts. And it would also count for a red rainbow book.
Thanks, I pretty much figured that out as I was waiting and thinking; however, April, are you saying that true crime counts no matter the color of the cover? It just will not earn a Witch's Brew. right?
No......it WILL qualify as a witches brew as long as it is indigo, green, or red, any other color will just be pages but those colors also get the bonus 500 pages.
Connie....lol....i don't know if i made sense! but, in reading your post again, i think we are both saying he same thing! lol
ok, thanks!I just wanted to make certain I understood about all true crime getting the 500 bonus pages. No matter the color of the cover. That was what I wanted to clarify and you did. Thanks!
This gets a bit tricky (pardon the pun) doesn't it?
I just finished my first read
and enjoyed it. I gave it 3 stars. I didn't have much of a chance to read during the day yesterday and I might not today either but I'm going to start
All true crime does not automatically get 500 free pages. True crime still must meet qualifications of a Witch's Brew (which yours does, but it also qualified as red nonfiction). But a non Witch's Brew true crime book would count towards reading 500 pages to earn 500 free pages.
I'm off to bed. Must be able to function at work tomorrow, and I want to get up early to have breakfast with my dad before he leaves.
Work time for me :( if I'm lucky, I'll get to read a bit on my commute - if I can get a seat on the train!

You may have to hide in the restroom. hehehe
Okay I've finally turned up (had a small thing with running the Cardiff half marathon yesterday so been a bit slack with getting going for this) and started reading Atlantic last night as my first book :-)
Nice going Sam! How was cardiff? Hope they managed to get the course the right length this year!
I've got that book unread as well. His books are usually informative & yet quirky, one of several of his I have siting unread as yet.

Hi Helen and thanks :-D It was a good course although the hills at the end were killer. I think it was about right but I've heard some people say that their apps said it was longer but I don't know how accurate those things are. Personally I'm not too bothered, I'm just glad I finished it!I do like Simon Winchester, I love how he writes, it's just so engrossing :-)
Longer's fine, courses are always a minimum of the stated distance. It's when they start reading under distance that you need to start worrying. They had a problem at Cardiff a year or two back when a turning cone was moved, so that the route ended up ~ 0.5 mile short. That's got to be annoying!
I think that was the year before last, I ran that one too but I think they still allowed the race to count as a qualifier for others. That one was unfortunate as if I remember correctly it was because of last minute buildings works which resulted in the course being altered. Either way my legs were killing after it...as they are now (my co-workers keep laughing at me as I try and move around the office, meanies!)
hahaha >:-D
Said in the nicest possible way - I ran a marathon earlier this year & it took 3 days before I could manage stairs in a conventional manner!

Yea that's about how long it took my legs to get back to some kind of normalcy the last time I did it! Glad it's not just me who struggles with stairs after these things, I've now been dubbed John Wayne for the week (I work with some cruel cruel people!)
Hi, Sam! Glad you are here. I was wondering about you and hoping you would turn up. Congratulations on the half marathon!
Thanks Connie and I know Judy I'm ashamed of myself *hangs head and looks forlorn*Oh yes and to get away from all the mocking from my work 'buddies'!
Hon, I am just so impressed! I was beginning to get worried about you, too, so I am glad you are here, and we don't have to send a search party out for you. ; )
Sam wrote: "Okay I've finally turned up (had a small thing with running the Cardiff half marathon yesterday so been a bit slack with getting going for this) and started reading Atlantic last night as my first ..."Did you do audiobook while running? That's one of my favorite things to do. Cardiff half is a little far away for me, but maybe someday... I loved Wales when I visited years ago.
Luckily the organisers must have known about the Toppler and timed it all to coincide and yes they do but on the up side it does mean I get paid for aching rather than aching on my own time. And I know, I've tried to convince them that they are international holidays but for some reason they don't believe me...Thanks Connie, can't wait to get home this evening just chuck something in the oven (I'm too tired to cook obviously) and get really stuck into my reading :-)
I didn't Beth as I run with my brother so we just have one headphone in as background noise and chat/motivate each other as we go around (although if I'm honest I spend most of the time swearing and he does all the motivating...). Glad to hear you enjoyed your visit to Wales though and I hope you get to visit again soon (you never know you might see a load of us limping along in another half marathon...or the Santa Run we have in December!)
